My first attempt at a backyard rink

New to our backyard visitors that come to dinner. This one obviously enjoyed a meal of over-ripe cherries. When my daughters were young I would stop anytime I saw a box turtle on the roadways and pick them up to take home to the safety of our backyard. Now I'm not so sure it's all that safe since we have a pool and these guys don't swim. This one I didn't bring home - it came hunting me and dinner. Far more welcome than the raccoons!

I'm going to be missing for at least a couple of weeks - no travel this time.

I live in a rowhouse (not as nice as brownstones). The backyards are connected, and I often walk through them looking into people's gardens.

I like the way they looks at night, it an attempt to get it, I got this apocalyptic photo.

A returning White-throated Sparrow, hanging out under my feeders.

A selection of vegetables picked from my backyard garden, including green beans, tomatoes, basil and peppers.

Are there any alternatives to an increasingly centralized internet landscape as cultivated by Google and Facebook? It is hard to imagine, but there are. The resources for such alternatives lie dormant in Japan’s diversity itself: tinker garages, corporate hotbeds, grassroots hubs, institutional labs, hacker bedrooms, editorial outposts etc. In those digital backyards innovators have been silently pursuing their work. Now they come together from all over Europe & Japan to explore synergies and common interests.

The conference is partitioned into a semi-open „Networking Lounge“ and „Public Talks“ that are accessible to a broad audience.

I don't really want to move them.

My first attempt at a backyard rink

Our backyard is better than yours... This Roosevelt Elk bull came closer to our house than I have ever seen. I walked downstairs to do laundry and saw him munching on our apple trees.

A small sparrow rests on a bare, wet tree limb during an overcast day. Tiny droplets of water cling to the dark branches against a pale sky.

More photos from my yard a couple of days after 9 inches of snow fell, with a little freezing rain before hand.
