Does anyone know what species of owl this is? We think it is a Short-eared Owl, but are not certain. It was in our backyard yesterday morning. There were a bunch of crows making a ruckus and we went to see what the fuss was all about.
In the summer of 2001 there was a trampoline in the backyard of the house my mother lived in. It was a neighourhood attraction.
And I thought my backyard was nice, they obviously have a better view. Im jealous!
Edited in photomatix and iphoto.
i set up a makeshift movie theatre in the back yard for juilana's 10th birthday party sleepover. The result was great, even though in this pic the long exposure for the back yard makes the screen a white box.
I still don't know the i.d. of this really wonderful flower. But my mom and I decided that it was probably our favorite on our recent road trip thru Georgia to Florida.
**Update** It has been id'ed as 'Gloriosa superba'.
This was taken in the lovely city of Savannah, Georgia (in someone's backyard...) Thanks for spotting these beauties, Mom!

We sold our home to the very first couple who looked at it. We had to do some scrambling to find a new home.We bought a rambler backing up to a nature area. It will be so nice not to have an alley and little traffic. The lot sold us on the home.
Something a little different. Went out this evening in my backyard with my Nikon 50mm f/1.8D lens and some extension tubes and took a few macro shots out around the gardens (my wife loves flower and vegetable gardens so we have a good selection of stuff to shoot). Just playing around with natural light, composition and focus. So cool seeing some of the details of the flowers and leaves - amazing how complex some of the patterns are. Pays to stop and smell the roses sometimes.
Having some fun with some Rufous Hummingbirds in my backyard lately, some with flash some without.
This is the female.
Exif Info: 1/640 sec, f/6.3, ISO 1000, 400mm, no flash.
I love this picture of my little one, Delilah. She was holding onto the sliding door looking out in our backyard. She started giving me the funniest faces when I started snapping shots.
Backyard birds today at Feathery Friday. Here our girls remind me of the mild days of fall. Most welcome during the cold spell we are having.
Just need some sunshine! Been feeling a little down since our vacation, and we've had nothing but rain, rain and more rain. When I woke to find our yard flooded there was nothing to do but get the floaties blown up. Shot for CC Weekly theme Low POV and for a laugh - I'm sure our neighbours think we've lost it!
