My first attempt at photographing an animal in nature....I've got a lot to learn, but....I've gotta start somewhere....in this case...my backyard.. :-D
Lovely place to sit around with friends and family at this outdoor firepit with hanging chairs, pergola with lights, working fire, lots of poses for single and cuddles!
Today I got a chance to walk into the backyard of a building in the outskirt of the Mission District in San Francisco. These buildings have a very deep corridor that lead to their backyard. They are quite packed and I was surprised to see overgrown trees that were fighting for their spaces. As you can see from this photo, the tree branches are like a mesh. Some of these buildings are probably more than 70 years old.
When my sister called out "THE TURTLE IS BACK!" excitement was in the air. Our resident Box Turtle, which my sister has dubbed Buddy has now made his third appearance this year, and seems to be living under our deck, or in that general area.
Looking out the kitchen window, Buddy was down under the seedlog feeder happily gobbling up crumbs being dropped by a messy squirrel overhead who was enjoying himself immensely.
Once Buddy was done, he made his way back toward the cover of our holly bush right next to the deck. And he was FAST, too!
My apologies ahead of time as my hand was not steady, this was taken through the window, and due to all the rain we've had lately there seem to be quite a few flies enjoying those fallen crumbs, too. Eww! You can also see some crumbs falling down around Buddy which looks weird, but I guess he didn't care as long as it was edible. Wish he'd eat some of those flies.

This kids house was used by our grand daughter Emma, when she visited us. She is too old now.

A groundhog was foraging in the weeds in the backyard....since I don't have a lawn yet the weeds are doing quite well.
Had a few Common Grackles visiting the backyard today including one male that reminded me of a character from one of the Star Wars movies. Looked like he had way too much testosterone
We had a yearling deer die in our backyard which has attracted a lot of coyotes, ravens, and turkey vultures. Yesterday, we had a visit from this beautiful bobcat.
The far umbrella has little lights along the ribs. The one Henry is standing under is where I stand to play fetch with Toby - shooting down the length of the backyard.
