We sold our home to the very first couple who looked at it. We had to do some scrambling to find a new home.We bought a rambler backing up to a nature area. It will be so nice not to have an alley and little traffic. The lot sold us on the home.
Something a little different. Went out this evening in my backyard with my Nikon 50mm f/1.8D lens and some extension tubes and took a few macro shots out around the gardens (my wife loves flower and vegetable gardens so we have a good selection of stuff to shoot). Just playing around with natural light, composition and focus. So cool seeing some of the details of the flowers and leaves - amazing how complex some of the patterns are. Pays to stop and smell the roses sometimes.
Having some fun with some Rufous Hummingbirds in my backyard lately, some with flash some without.
This is the female.
Exif Info: 1/640 sec, f/6.3, ISO 1000, 400mm, no flash.
Backyard birds today at Feathery Friday. Here our girls remind me of the mild days of fall. Most welcome during the cold spell we are having.

These Adirondack chairs are just a few of the items I put in the backyard to dress it up a little.

Shot this evening lying prone on my deck to stay out of sight and down wind. Unfortunately audio got lost when I converted the raw file. Sorry about the focus it was in manual and the camera was on the ground trying to keep it steady and low profile. iso 10,000

This hawk dropped in to perch on the walnut tree in my backyard, just as the ice storm was getting under way. Conditions were nasty, and he only stayed a couple of minutes.
The backyard I grew up playing in is now a little overgrown.
I use to have a swingset set up down here, along with a trapeze
that hung from a gigantic tree. The trapeze was my absolute
favorite thing in the world and i'd swing around on it for hours
by myself. It made me so nostalgic being here! I could spend
hours just staring up at the trees :)
The water tower behind our house was getting a re-paint, so it was covered with a nude colored veil in preparation.
I've already shared a photo of some of my backyard birds, so here is one of my backyard deer. A pair of them wandered through the yard last Sunday, but I haven't seen them since. However, the food I put out for the squirrels mysteriously disappeared overnight, so I think they've been around!
And speaking of the squirrels, I believe I've solved my "gray seed hogger" (aka squirrel) problem. I switched the seed in my bird feeder from black oil sunflower to safflower seeds. So far the birds seem to like it and the squirrels don't bother with it. Yay!
