I laid this design out in my studio on a cardboard mock-up of the backsplash. You can't tell but the 6 outer dark tiles are actually a dark metallic gray, while the 4 inner tiles are black.

A deconstructed pallet is used for a kitchen desk backsplash. Two vertical boards border the area, and horizontal boards stack to fill in the field.
