I had to do this rather quickly while the remodeling was being done, I couldn't measure until the sheetrock was up, and couldn't grout until the countertops were in, which left 1 day before the 400 lb. stove was brought in...
From 2012. One the second day, the tile guy came in and did the backsplash. Cool antiqued looking tile, with a glass tile insert.
I used scrapbook paper, modge podge and 1/8" black artists tape (for the "grout lines") to add a little distressed tuscany tile feel to my backsplash. Took about 3 hours and $25!
Unique backsplash design. Porcelain and glass brick shaped mosaic tile. Layed in the less traditional vertical pattern, as opposed to horizontal.
A backsplash in uptown Charlotte skyrise condo units. 3/4" Multi Slate with bricwork travertine feature strip and 2" granite accents. Installed by Charlotte tile contractor, Cupan Custom Tile.
At least I think that panel behind it is a backsplash, though why it would be a problem to get water on the tile wall, I'm not sure. Maybe it's a design element, though that seems a bit fancy for a highway rest stop.
