Mosaic backsplash in my Kitchen. Tiles, beads, beans, mirror pieces, jewelry. I learned to do this with a book I checked out from the library.
Back in Bay Head hanging out with my cousins from Colorado. They're in the ocean in front of that wave. I love the beach in the fall.
This is what's glued down thus far. The green leaves on the left were made by hand by Paradise Mosaic Tile and were expensive. For about $35, I got the double the amount of tiles on the left (not counting the big beige one). I had ordered some and then asked if she could just make me a variety of fun leaf shapes in various greens for the same amount of money. She made three shapes, three sizes, three colors. That's cool.
I can see this as a fall tree using small colored maple leaves and lots of crows. The problem, of course, is if I order all the stuff from her, then it's really not my work anymore. It's a little bit of design and mosaicing of branches, then assemblage. I suppose that's OK. After all, the plates wouldn't have been mine, technically, either.
Sorry, here I am blathering on. No one cares about that inner art argument.

Well, my hands are super dry today and I forgot to bring cream to work, but other than that I'm ready to get back to it. Alas, mosaic work must wait until Friday evening. I'll be going back then to complete this install, there's still two panels left to be put up, the ones under the window, my favorite part.
There were a couple of mishaps, but nothing we couldn't handle.
If you are a Facebook friend of mine, there's another 10 photos from that day including some "very flattering" shots of Shannon splayed out on the counter with thinset all over her hands, lol. They are not as dark as this.

After a lot of thought and so on, Tom and I decided to go back to our original choice of backsplash for the kitchen. To view, view on black and step back a few paces.
New commission for a kitchen backsplash. I will be using vitreous mosaic and some stained glass. The background will be white. The light areas on the poppies will actually be a lighter shade of red, not as light as they look here.
Backsplash is 8.5' long and mostly 14 " high. The center focal point is 26" high.
