Students, teachers, staff and parents had the opportunity to vote for their favorite natural play features in preparation for the design work ahead. Students could vote with 3 stickers each-- on three different elements, or all three on the same element. There was also room to write or draw what you liked about the different features. TUNNELS were the clear winner!
The display hung in a main hallway of the school for a month, and was a great way to raise awareness and enthusiasm for the project.

The last day of our 3 day events supporting #awareweek taking place around the world. We would like to thank all of our participants over the weeks for picking up trash and the 190 who went out this day.
Residential inspection reveals a large "unused" NOS roll of thick asbestos kraft paper insulation stashed up in a basement ceiling interstitial space.
Every year hundreds of juniors from across the Perspectives network participate in a five-week internship throughout the Chicagoland area. The program aims to provide every student with the opportunity to form a healthy relationship with a professional role model, help them develop awareness of career choices, and to introduce them to the culture of the business arena. Over the years, hundreds of companies and organizations have provided this valuable experience, where students work in the offices of their mentors on Wednesdays from 9 am to 3 pm for five weeks during the winter.
"We start the five-week internship with a mentor breakfast at each campus,” said Program Manager Shayla Butler. “It is important that our mentors know where our students attend school and to meet with key staff while laying out the ground rules to ensure success for everyone involved.”

As an architecture student aware of the detrimental impact that idealist, modernist thinking contributed to the demise of the former Pruitt-Igoe site and its surrounding neighborhoods, I feel that a more realistic and integrated design proposal is appropriate and deserving for the area and its inhabitants. The project should be grounded and sensitive to human qualities rather than distant, analytical concepts. It should inspire, promote progress, but also recount valuable history.
The site is thick with history. Delicately negotiating this history is the most important consideration of any proposal. A first instinct may be to create a physical monument retelling the past; while the other extreme might choose to suppress or erase any indication of it. Neither of these attitudes is appropriate since one exists as a static object for viewing and the other applies almost sacrilegious treatment of deeply sensitive space. Instead, the past should be well integrated within the program of the site; in other words, it should continue to live through the people who use and inhabit the place.
Such a suggestion does not imply repeating or dwelling on the past. Instead, it asks that the important lessons learned and the critical experiences taken from history should be retold and remembered. Therefore, this proposal suggests an artistic program that can abstractly express these stories. The choice of performance, specifically dance, has been selected as the medium for the artists who could most directly engage the site. The human body and the way it harnesses and negotiates its own weight proves to be a powerfully expressive instrument that is both striking and relatable.
For these reasons, a circus park and performance venue has been proposed for the site. Such a program brings positive cultural, economic, and social improvement through every performance.

In 2011, Cameroon experienced a cholera outbreak across the country. More than 500 Plan-supported community volunteers took action across seven of Cameroon’s regions – going door-to-door to raise awareness about cholera and provide water treatment tablets. They also noted the health of residents and referred those who had contracted the disease to hospitals for treatment.
