wary eyed and aware

she lights a smoke and looks around

her hood up, her eyes wide

inhaling her poisons

exhaling her griefs

aware of how her breath takes form

into the cold, crisp night

and wanders away

On September 13, World Sepsis Day, advocates, victims, and healthcare leaders joined together to announce the launch of the Massachusetts Sepsis Consortium, a collaboration to raise awareness of sepsis and to advance prevention, detection and treatment of a condition that each year threatens the lives and wellbeing of thousands of residents in the Commonwealth. This condition affects more than 40,000 Massachusetts residents every year, leading to about 7,000 deaths- but is treatable if caught early. Together, we will achieve our goal of ensuring that everyone in Massachusetts knows the signs and symptoms of sepsis AND the need to seek immediate treatment.

Puppet shows are used to raise awareness about the importance of hand washing with soap good practice to avoid hdiarrheal diseases.

This way of practicing awareness is integrated with normal everyday living. No doubt there are many people who are more or less continuously aware of their actions and thinking who have no interest in formal meditation (although some of these people I’ve known also do something that looks similar, like fishing or knitting).

This was a wonderful event to raise awareness of Cardiomyopathy.
