In the US, our avacados are a third of the size, but twice the price. I was told that this was small compared to most. Fun fact: They call this a pear, not an avacado. And our US pears (the sweeter fruit) are just imported pears to Jamaica.
Lunch this Friday was quesadillas made from local tortillas, mozzarella di buffalo, and homemade salsa of tomatoes (the ones that weren't ripe enough for my cucumber salad), sweet yellow onion, and avacado.
... heavenly!
Sushi Maru in Japantown is Joey and my favorite restaurant. We had our first date here because he lived down the street and our friend recommended it. We've been going there ever since for special occasions, but also just to satiate our sushi cravings. When we decided to get our own place, we centered our search around the restaurant because we both agreed it would be a travesty not to be able to split a pitcher of Sapporo and stumble home (drinking and driving is bad, kids - plan ahead!), so we moved only a few blocks down the street.
Lately, as you all may have noticed, I've been strapped for time (and sanity). So when I said I didn't have class or work last night, he cancelled his band rehearsal (that's a big deal!) so we could spend some time together and get some yummy sushi. It was fabulous.
Though he did groan when I said the camera was coming too. :D
Mango avacado salad with cilantro and red onion and lime/sesame vinagrette.
what did i learn? cutting the mango and onion was a mistake. Too big a blotch of bright colour and made it too hard to expose properly or have a photo that wasn't overpowered by one or the other or both of them.
Oh, and I also learned this is extremely yummy.
My room wasn't ready when I got to San Francisco, so I spent some time having lunch and coding a Sudoku game for Marna. In being true to my diet, I landed at a cobb salad (for which I have an affinity if you haven't noticed). See the dressing on the side? Yeah, me! The room came up at 4 PM Pacific, and as Marriott's go, I'm impressed.
this roll has: wasabi mayo, immitation crab, avacado, egg, rice and nori. this is an inside out roll, when rice is spread on nori sprinkle with seseame seads and flip it over, fill and roll. i rolled mine in some tempura batter and fried it. the best variation of cali roll!!
A few weeks ago I took a trip with some friends to Schnebly Winery in Homestead, Florida. The winery makes all of their wines from the fruit crops of the neighboring properties. They have some rather exotic wines made from Avocado, Starfruit, Passion Fruit, Melon, Mango, Guava, etc.
Vlad was hesitant to have an avacado shake but he became one of the many converts to this delicious snack. It is unspeakably good.
KTM is of course famous for their motorcycles, but little is known of their bicycles, and they're very rare. This vintage 3 speed cruiser Austrian was made sometime in the 1950's or 1960's. It turned up while discussing my business with a tri-state motorcycle dealer who had gotten it as a promotional item.

5th bento lunch I ever made. Homemade cucumber salmon roll, kiwi berries, bbq pork, avacado, and rice with bonito flakes.
I was looking everywhere for avocados yesterday and all I could find was a bag of little ones. I thought that they would be rubbish and that they would just have a massive stone and hardly and flesh, but I was wrong. I cut into this and there was just this teeny little stone in the middle, almost like a seed! When looking at the photo, bear in mind that the avocado itself is only about 4" big.
With a llama guardian. Patte Mitchell, a beloved spiritual Earth-mama, has always loved this tree. Revisiting this pic after almost six months, I dedicate it to her memory.
