Look what I found when I cut open an avacado!!! hee hee...
***My husband's relatives grew it themselves.
The Macro Mondays theme for next Monday, 8/1, is miniatures and I’ve had a good time this morning chasing down things like Barbie accessories.
The ANSH has an item that is ”say cheese”. Guess I’m being literal again… grin... scavenger4
Sushi for lunch and the avacado's have faces. I wonder what this means??? Ha-ha I loss all interest in eating it. I kind of felt sorry for him. He did have the crab kissing his cheek!
It's amazing to see the avocado seed germinating slowly.
It takes about a month when it is ready to be planted in soil.

These scenes always make me think of a tree cemetery and I tried to get a decent shot of one many times.
This is an Avacado orchard which was stump pruned.
"After 35 years avocado trees are so tall that the harvest is too expensive and dangerous. After pruning, the trunk will generate new limbs and there will be some harvestable fruit within 5 years."
Taken early AM just as the sun was cresting the hills along Hwy 101 north of Goleta, California.
My image "Rise And Shine", two images forward, was taken from just about where I stood to take this shot.
The sight of avacado orchards cut back to allow for new growth, like this one, always makes me think of a cemetery and headstones, but in this case it made me think of people running to escape the fires we are experiencing here.
If you notice the mountain ridge in the distance and its color, it was burned in the Whittier Fire in early July 2017 which ultimately burned in the neighborhood of 18,500 acres, 16 homes and 30+ outbuildings and is considered small in comparison to the Thomas Fire burning in our area now, which as of 12/15/2017 has burned over 259,000 acres and is only 40% contained.
As of 12/16/2017 has burned over 267,500 acres and is still only 40% contained.
As of 12/18/2017 has burned over 271,000 acresand is 45% contained.
Finally contained 1/12/2018 the Thomas Fire became the largest recorded fire in California history burning 281,893 acres destroying 1,063 and damaging 280 buildings, mostly homes.
The burning of the mountains above Carpenteria and Montecito, northwest of Ventura resulted in devastating mudslides that took the lives of 21, and as of 2/22/2018 2 children are still missing.
Taken north of Goleta, California, USA.

It was another fun day in Costa Rica. Like yesterday it was windy in the morning and calm in the afternoon yielding better birding after lunch. Our main target bird today was the Long-tailed Manakin and I think everyone ended up with nice photos. It is definitely a challenging bird to photograph. Some of the species encountered today include Chirique Quail-Dove, White-throated Thrush, Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush, Golden-crowned Warbler, Three-striped Warbler, Rufous-capped Warbler, Keel-billed Toucan, Golden-olive Woodpecker and Pale-billed Woodpecker. Though I was thinking that I would post a photo of the manakin today I think I would rather post a photo of the Keel-billed Toucan since it was the first appearance of them on the trip and it got everyone so excited. Watching these two dance around in the avacado tree was such a pleasure. It is so much fun taking people out when they get excited about what we are seeing and today had plenty of enthusiasm.

I don't really have any faith in Phil's predictions about how much longer winter will be and with a 39% accuracy rate, it doesn't seem like you can put much faith in it... However, it is a fun tradition for our country to have as long as whatever incarnation of Punxsutawney Phil is up for the task.
This photo is of an Avacado plant growing out of its pit in a jar of water from October 2019. I put 3 pits in water, 2 produced long starters but the third one is stunted a bit and only has about an inch of growth, I will give that one another month or two and then I may just put it in the mulcher.
Hopefully, Phil was right and Spring is right around the corner.
She never dreamed of her own personal telephone that would fit in her purse along with her makeup and pack of cigarettes that she could carry and use anywhere.
My dinner: Organic black bean soup dressed with cumin-chili creme fraiche and topped with avacado salsa.
It's been a while since I've updated the Flickr page!

Of a fence~ Traveling around the county of Los Angeles...I fell in love with the lemon and orange groves! The smell as we drove through was intoxicating! This fence was along a whole stretch of a gorgeous lemon grove.
Well..today we head back home to Chicago...where I hear temps are supposed to be unseasonably warm in the 50's!! (but no waves to play in!!!) Traveling all day....will catch up later!
Happy Fence Friday and have a wonderfully content New Year!
for a change. Ham and avacado are a combination made in heaven. What looks like Reiberdatschi (bavarian potato cakes) are my invention, made from a falafel mix from the Bio-Shop.
