This male Resplendent Quetzal was perched deep inside a tree digesting his lunch.

If I laid on my back in the mud and angled the lens just right I could almost get a view of at least the top half of him.

I made sure that I didn't make a lot of noise / movement and stayed a respectful distance from the tree to avoid disturbing him - which seemed to work as he sat there for another hour and a half before coming out for his next meal.

Taken in Parque los Quetzales, Costa Rica.

Local farmers who happen to have the right environment for these birds (including the all important avacado or fig trees) are paid by guides to let birders / photographers on their land. This also ensures that the environment remains perfect for the birds.

Collecting our fruit along the roadside coming from Costa Rica on the Interamericana back up to our mountain home in Volcan, Chiriqui, Panama. It's a good inexpensive life. Not complaining over the cost of living, for sure.

Male Resplendent Quetzal. He was perched deep inside the tree canopy. Had to lie on my back in the mud and angle my lens through a narrow gap between the branches (I was still quite a distance away and very quiet so as not to disturb him). He sat like this for at least an hour digesting avacados plucked from the adjacent tree.

In this beach scene, the charming Pitaya - Daises garden set in both yellow and pink hues creates an inviting ambiance. Finding Quetzals is not the problem, finding them in good light is the challenge. We found them three days in a row but never would they perch in the Sun.

The key to finding them is finding a wild avacado tree and at the right altitude. They don't migrate throughout but migrate up and down a certain area as their favorite tree fruits.

I was craving sushi - this is a Chesapeake Roll - fresh, Maryland crab, avacado, crispy tempura bits, sprinkled with Old Bay seasoning. Yummy!

This is a salad that I whipped up for my love, with cut corn, tomato, jalapeno peppers and onions on the bottom of the sliced avacados, green peppers, cucumbers and halved cherry tomato, with pumpkin seed oil and apple cider vinegar drizzled on top and a bit of celtic sea salt.She told to take a picture of and post it on Flickr, so I did. !!!!!

Most commonly serve as a avocado shake drink. Mixed with condensed milk that brinks out the avocado flavor.

These avocado are quite big in size similar to the papaya fruit.

Always a crowd pleaser, the male quetzal lands on a branch after eating an Avacado from his favorite tree.

This male Resplendent Quetzal was quite happy to stay hidden inside this tree digesting his meal of avacados. A lot of contortions on my part to actual get a view and shot. However I wasn't crashing around through the branches - just peering respectfully and quietly through a gap from outside the tree.

This is one of my favourite shots from the recent trip to Costa Rica, because it is a bit different - not just a quetzal on a moss covered perch in the rain (but there is nothing wrong with those shots either!).

Taken in the Parque Nacional Los Quetzales cloud forest at approx 5,000m altitude, Costa Rica.

Tried a buddies green smoothie recipe today.. Wasn't too bad, but I wanna do some experimenting with other fruits and stuff.. It also turned out better than my last attempt, the avacado helps make it "smooth." The recipe for this one is:

5 Red Swiss chard leaves

½ an avacado

Juice from ½ of a lime

1 - 3 (I use 3) garlic cloves

2 - 3 roma tomatoes

2 cups water

Add all the stuff to the blender, and beat the hell out of it on high setting for a few minutes. It might get warm, so you might want to add in some ice.

I was not sure if avocado would grow in a warm weather place, like my home town. I was very excited to see new leaves on my avocado plant
