The April 12, 1981 launch at Pad 39A of STS-1, just seconds past 7 a.m., carries astronauts John Young and Robert Crippen into an Earth orbital mission scheduled to last for 54 hours, ending with unpowered landing at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
The Atomic Bomb Dome, part of Hiroshima Peace Memorial. This building, was almost directly under the explosion of "Little Boy" dropped by the Enola Gay, the world's first atomic bomb. The building's location spared its demise, whereas the rest of the town was leveled.

The second tier up in the Nomad range but it remains a versatile allmountain ski for those who are looking to potter along on the groomed runs after a few years of skiing or those who are looking for their first pair of skis but desire a real allterrain beast.
With a tame flex and very progressive sidecut the Blue Moons (what an odd name for a pair of skis) they are very forgiving and easy to use for the green to red run skier.
The principle of atomic hydrogen welding is based on (i) the possibility of obtaining atomic hydrogen by means of an electric arc between the two tungsten electrodes, in an atmosphere of hydrogen at atmospheric pressure, (ii) the very high temperature produced by the recombination of the atoms, which occurs in the cooler regions immediately outside the arc, and (iii) the very great heat conductivity of hydrogen at high temperatures

The mist over the rapids today looked like an atomic bomb explosion, like a mushroom cloud. Very pretty.
Because I chose a naturally off-balance pose, the gun and his arm are now counterweights to the rest of him. What that really means is that when his arm drops, the gun swings out and usually tears the arm off, then the rest falls backward.
Took this at London Zoo - it's the silhouette of a metal decoration in one of their mini-garden areas, of a globe. I like the way it looks like an atomic structure.
The Atomic Bomb Dome opposite the Aioi River. The building was the closest structure to survive the blast which was almost directly above the dome at a distance of approximately 100 meters south and 600 meters above ground. The intended target for the atomic bomb was the Aioi bridge in the background.

Tony Price, Atomic Thunderbird (1994; cut and assembled stainless steel, bronze,
plastic, and mixed media, 57”x31”x7”) Tony Price’s mixed media artwork recreates a fictional bird from Native American lore out of surplus metal and plastic pieces that he purchased from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Thunderbirds are portrayed as intelligent, strong, and powerful birds that are capable of creating thunderstorms wherever they fly. Price creates his Atomic Thunderbird in a similar shape to many Native American drawings, with the bird shown from the front with the wings on
either side of the body and the tail straight below
