Fellow flickrite steve_cx plays guitar in "The Atomic Rays". Here they are in action at the Cat & Wheel on Cheltenham Road in Bristol on Friday night. Poor light and a crush of people dancing at the front made photography tricky, but the music made up for that.

it's hard to imagine the horrific events that followed August 6, 1945 when you walk through Hiroshima Peace Park today. the museum is a harrowing experience. it's hard not to get emotional as you walk through it.

Boeing B-29 Superfortress "Enola Gay"

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center, Chantilly, Va., October 29, 2009.

Info from the museum's website:

Boeing's B-29 Superfortress was the most sophisticated propeller-driven bomber of World War II and the first bomber to house its crew in pressurized compartments. Although designed to fight in the European theater, the B-29 found its niche on the other side of the globe. In the Pacific, B-29s delivered a variety of aerial weapons: conventional bombs, incendiary bombs, mines, and two nuclear weapons.

On August 6, 1945, this Martin-built B-29-45-MO dropped the first atomic weapon used in combat on Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later, Bockscar (on display at the U.S. Air Force Museum near Dayton, Ohio) dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. Enola Gay flew as the advance weather reconnaissance aircraft that day. A third B-29, The Great Artiste, flew as an observation aircraft on both missions.

Hiroshima, Japan

Atomic Films out of Chattanooga hired me to help out on a video for UT here in Knoxville. They brought up a grip truck and a RED. The shoot was quick and easy. Just a little B-roll of Ayers Hall, then we shot an interview in Neyland Stadium. Just a little while after we got started they went ahead and booked me for a shoot at the YMCA in Chattanooga. That was also an interesting day. I look forward to working with Atomic Films in the future.

Rich and I in front of the Hiroshima atomic blast monument.

The bomb detonated about 500m above this building, and since the force of the blast was mostly downward here, a lot of the building was left standing. It's all fenced off in a 100' radius. It's an eerie place. There are weird discolourations on the walls, whick I like to think were made by those poor people being vapourized right next to them. In reality, it's probably just 60 years of nature taking its toll.
