Little Baldy offers what may be the best close view available of these peaks.

I loved the varied shadows and clouds that appeared. Each picture can to a greater extent be its own moment in that way despite the fact that there are countless photos taken all around the Utah Valley in any given period of time.

In case you're curious the title "The Kick" refers to the idea that I was in the home stretch of my efforts for the day and among the slopes before me to the left was my finish line. As usual the hardest effort would be near the end.

This photo is taken very near the Great Western Trail in Utah's Wasatch Mountains.

This is someone's backyard!

Favorite #15, 2012: Gros Ventre River Valley Near Grand Teton National Park in the Bridger-Teton National Forest east of Kelly, Wyoming. Being a geologist, you know one of my favorite photographs was going to involve a geologic feature like the anticline picture above. The fold is related to the reverse faults in the area. The Red Hills are made up of Triassic red beds called the Chugwater Formation. The Gros Ventre Valley is one of my favorite places in the Teton area. The hills are all color coded: the Red Hills, The Lavender Hills and the Gray Hills.

What caught my eye with these Aspens is the way they stood out against the dark clouds. The first shot is how I actually saw it. The second shot is the impressionist version using intentional vertical camera movement.

Actually taken after sunset with a long exposure. There is a semi-famous photograph of the Ragged Wilderness from the Kebler Pass Road. That photo always shows a large patch of red aspen. Based on always seeing that, I wanted to get inside the grove. This is the seam between that grove and two others. It was harder to find than I had thought, but well worth it. It took a flashlight to get me back to the road.

I've got a case of the mid-winter blues and my Flickr feed does, too. So here's a photo I took of my wife, #PhotoJennic, mountain biking in an aspen grove above Salt Lake, last July. This trail is buried under about 100 inches of snow right now and there's a storm on the way so powder photos will be back in a few days :-)

While on a walking trail , I reached this Spot - It was a sight to behold . Luckily , we were able to get a very symmetrical and Balanced frame for this Pic .

223/366: Williams Creek Reservoir Colorado – Long Exposure

A long exposure shot of Williams Creek Reservoir in Colorado. Williams Creek Reservoir is one of my favorite places to visit when going to Colorado. The peacefulness and serenity is unmatched. The isolation and landscape views are majestic. One can just stare out at the San Juan Mountain range as you breathe in the cool fresh air and feel the crisp breeze off the lake.

This photo was taken with my Nikon D810 and Lee Filters CP and Big Stopper for an exposure time of 20 seconds at f/8, ISO 100 – 14mm.

Moods of Autumn

I always feel so fortunate when the fall weather provides clouds, fog and snow. Here is just a sample of what I experienced in the Southern Colorado San Juan mountains.
