After hiking and driving around most of the day, checking out the beautiful Colorado fall colors, I came home to one of my favorite places - my backyard! I've said it before. This view never gets old!

Grizzly Bear sow 399 and her three cubs in summer of 2011. The Saga of Grizzly sow three ninety nine and her progeny who roam Grand Teton National Park is quite a story.

Moods of Autumn
I always feel so fortunate when the fall weather provides clouds, fog and snow. Here is just a sample of what I experienced in the Southern Colorado San Juan mountains.
Can you feel it? That crisp air at night, that cool canyon breeze, those rustling leaves beneath your feet!!?? That's everything I felt this weekend when I met up with Flickr friends Jojo(imagesofdream) and Rhondamartinlensart.... we had so much fun rushing around together, chasing the light and every next scene around the corner... while the light was good... ;-)... the 2nd day was a bit overcast and windy...
I would say another week to 2 before some lower areas peak but all in all we had a great time photographing at 7000 to 9000 ft elevation around North Lake, Sabrina Lake and South Lake near Bishop, CA in the Eastern Sierra's....
Thanks guys for a fun time!
Have a great week everyone! STAY TUNED!! Loads more images to come, everything from Milky Way shots in Yosemite, to Air Glow over Mono, to Alpine glow sunrise at North Lake.... xx

On our way to Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP last November - and we stopped just short of Paonia, CO - as a late fall snow blanketed the cottonwoods and aspens on a little hillock overlooking this stream and cabin. I thought that could be a calendar someday - and here we are a year later - bringing this Annus horribilis to a close. This trip was the last time I ventured more than 150 miles from home - and I'm eager to get out at some point in mid-2021 to go SOMEWHERE. ANYWHERE. Again.
So with that in mind, take your vaccine, and get on the road. But for now, head over to the Central Illinois Calendar Blog and get your copy of this December view.

Slowly flowing river Vähäjoki in the middle of the forest. During summer the river can dry out completely but in the spring, the river floods and can have heavy rapids at the downstream.
An intimate view from Bishop Canyon last year. I'll be spending a week leading a workshop a few other great instructors up here the first week of October. Also spending some time for myself as well if time allows. It should be a great year with all the water we've had. Hopefully the temps do what they need to so everyone can get their fall fix!

I certainly love Ghost Towns, especially this one as I am middle named after it and I was baptized here oddly enough! I have shot here a bunch over summer and so on, but never came back with anything I liked. I guess it took a a little color and some snow to make this place truly special.

A perfect 75 degrees, gorgeous blue sky with the occasional puffy white clouds, and the Aspen trees clothed in Fall's finest. The mountains were pretty packed with people out enjoying themselves. There are three people in this grove of Aspens. Can you spot them? The one in the red jacket is a freebie!

When we showed up for sunrise the Sneffls Range was completely shrouded in fog. We waited patiently and some photographers left abruptly, but as the sun rose higher in the sky, the peaks of the Sneffls Range revealed themselves.
206/366: The Land of the Tree Gods
Take me into the Land of the Tree Gods,
Follow me into the Aspen spree.
Show me what this world can be...
Where the Aspen trees stand tall and the air so fresh,
Take me into the Land of the Tree Gods.
A soaring Colorado Aspen standing tall above all else. A forest full of adventure – green and plush. The grass so fuzzy as you walk in the forest, tickling your skin as the mountain air fills your lungs with happiness and renewal.

Back from a very nice week spent in western Colorado and northern New Mexico, where we saw millions of my favorite tree - the Aspen - in some beautiful settings. And while 99.9999% of the trees were in this state (sans leaves), that didn't seem to be a problem at all.
Here, in the Maroon Creek canyon - headed up to the Maroon Bells - we found some lovely almost golden grasses - supporting these trees.
Lots of goodies to come.
