I won't deny its fun slowly learning how to digitally paint with these Adobe products, and it gives me a nice chance to go back and look at some old photos to try to paint smile emoticon this is in Colorado not far from Aspen at Maroon Bells. It was a morning in Autumn while hiking, and the aspen leaves were bright, vibrant, and beautiful!
The original image I took where I got the idea for digitally painting this was here (www.flickr.com/photos/14723335@N05/25603482176/in/datepos...).

The biggest challenge shooting at Northlake isn't the wind or the light--it's trying to shoot around the bazillion other photographers who are also there trying to shoot aspens. :)
The San Juan Mountains of Colorado are covered with an abundance of aspen trees that turn gold in autumn. This photo was taken in September, near Silverton.
These trees were spotted by the side of the road near the Sking town of Aspen Colorado, in the Rocky Mountains.

All these great images of the Eastern Sierras got me to think back to all the great trips that I've taken over the last few years. This shot was taken back in 2011, before I began using filters. I had totally dismissed it because of the extreme lighting conditions, but it was a pretty awesome sunset. Anyway, I decided to give the RAW file the old college try...here's my attempt. Let me know what you think!

If you might indulge me yet another view of Oxbow Bend, taken this past Fall after the area's first snow. During the early morning I stood there on the frost covered banks of the Snake River, barely noticing the cold, once again caught up by the spectacle of the Oxbow. The golden color of aspen leaves lit by the morning's first light and reflected gracefully and truly in the icy waters of the river. Trumpeter Swans, Canada geese, a bull moose, elk and ducks, entered and exited the scene as I stood there waiting for the sun to light up the trees. A quieter morning than usual, as many of the tourists had left or slept in after the snowstorm. I am reminded of the many remarks that were heard during the hours that I roamed the Oxbow during the Fall - complaints about the ripples in the water, a goose stirring up the perfect reflection of Mt. Moran - and remember thinking how perfect the imperfections were. Time moving perfectly, ever changing, giving only small windows to capture the best of what nature has to offer. How could I ever leave this place, tear myself away and force myself onto roads unknown? Circumstances only, winter coming, campground closing, trailer needing repairs - practical choices - and time to see something new. And in Zion, as in Glacier, Mt. Rainier, Crater Lake, Yellowstone, Arches, Lassen, the Grand Canyon, Bryce, I found a new sort of awe, completely different than the others. A widening appreciation for the forces of nature and its history. And an overwhelming appreciation to those who worked tirelessly to preserve these parks for myself, my children and their children, to enjoy - for everyone to see.
This image is a two shot (only) pano stitched in CS5, with minor adjustments in RAW and Nik - and CS5 to bandaid and clone out the dirt spots.

This is a single image........It all came together on 9-26-2018 when we had a nearly full moon rising on the eastern horizon in southern Colorado. The moonlight was slightly diffused from the few clouds in the area which gave me a chance to be able to capture the milky way, clouds and illumined foreground and mountains all in one capture. The bright planet to the left of the Milky Way is mars. It was a beautiful autumn evening under the stars!!

I love how these sound rustling in the breeze...
Can you feel it? That crisp air at night, that cool canyon breeze, those rustling leaves beneath your feet!!?? That's everything I felt this weekend when I met up with Flickr friends Jojo(imagesofdream) and Rhondamartinlensart.... we had so much fun rushing around together, chasing the light and every next scene around the corner... while the light was good... ;-)
I would say another week to 2 before some lower areas peak but all in all we had a great time photographing at 7000 to 9000 ft elevation around North Lake, Sabrina Lake and South Lake near Bishop, CA in the Eastern Sierra's....
Thanks guys for a fun time!
Have a great week everyone! STAY TUNED!! Loads more images to come, everything from Milky Way shots in Yosemite, to Air Glow over Mono, to Alpine glow sunrise at North Lake.... xx

Last autumn I was driving the mountain roads outside Salt Lake City with a friend when we saw a small pond and a dirt road that went a short way to a trail. I found this scene while walking and viewing the forest through the tilted screen on the back of my camera. Sometimes this helps me find compositions.
