This was part of a series of pictures on my IG account - what follows is taken directly from that post (some of the following may not make sense here, but it still has some interesting information). If you'd like to see the series in its entirety please follow this link: www.instagram.com/p/BaPBjgonngp/?taken-by=around_and_abou...

From the IG post [the photo above is referred to as pic 3]:

"Pic 1. The KEYNES MATE badge seems an appropriate addition to pic 1 as it's a painting of MK's oldest known citizen: Ichthyosaur aka Big Eye / The Caldecote Monster (and my favourite) Icky.

Pic 2. Explains how Icky was found back in 1982 whilst Caldecote Lake was being created.

Pic 3 [ the one above here on Flickr ]. Takes a look at why lakes like Caldecote were created here in MK.

Pic 4 is a map from the thesis made by David Michael Martill *A (he was one of the experts from Leicester University). It shows where they found Icky and from looking at a modern map of the area, I think it was on the southern lake (where @miltonkeynesrowingclub is based). I am however, only guessing.

Pic 5 is also from Mr Martill's thesis and explains how Icky came to rest there: apparently Icky was a mature adult ichthyosaur - approximately 5m long - and the cause of death couldn't be fully ascertained.

Pic 6 is from today - before Icky was swimming along with the sea of books at the library, those powerful flippers were used to swim around "the warm sea which covered this area more than 165 million years ago" *B

Ichthyosaurs were featured on the BBC documentary Walking with Dinosaurs, this clip talks of the same genus as Icky: youtu.be/rezCswEi6cA - it's a bit gruesome at the end though!

On this day Icky was featured in the then local paper - pic 7. As with the previous post, I'll put the articles onto Flickr.

I took pic 8 at Caldecote the other day. Every time I see lamp posts in this state they make my imagination do a double take, but especially so after researching this post.

You can visit the oldest known citizen of our area by visiting Icky in the CMK Reference Library - there's construction work going on but they're still open.

This is my tripod. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

As a landscape photographer, you may find yourself in low light situations. Sunrises, sunsets. You are looking for that dramatic sky and it sometimes comes when the light is low and requires you to extend your shutter speed. If you’re hand holding, you will definitely experience some camera shake. First word of advice, if you don’t have a tripod, GET ONE! For this reason, my tripod is my best friend. My tripod may not be the most sturdy but there are a few ways I can reduce the amount of camera shake that is introduced to an image just by pressing the shutter button.

Purchase a Limited Edition Print

Regardless of the tripod you use, when you press the shutter button on your camera, while it is sitting on the tripod head, you will see camera shake, You will reduce your chances of getting a tact sharp image due to the vibration caused by pressing and release of the shutter button.

4 Simple Ways to Reduce Camera Shake

There are several ways, and tools, available that can be used to help remove unwanted camera shake.

Cable Release – this is a “wired” control that is attached to your camera with a button at the end that will allow you to control the shutter speed.

Wireless Remote – most cameras today support a wireless remote. This is the same as the cable release, but without the cable.

Exposure Delay – on some cameras there is an option within the camera’s settings that allow you to set an exposure delay. This will provide a few seconds from the time the shutter button is pressed to the time the shutter actually opens.

Self-Timer – more than likely, your camera has a self-timer. Some can be set for different times, usually 2, 5, or 10 second delays, or for a single fixed amount of time. This usually allows the photographer to race into the family portrait, but with landscape photography, it can be used to extend the time from pressing the shutter button to the time the shutter opens.

All of the above options allow you to set your camera on a tripod and release the shutter without the shake that can be introduced during the actual pressing of the button on your camera.
