Da erobert etwas die Welt – und zwar in einem Tempo, dass wir nicht fähig sind von Wahrheit und Fiktion zu unterscheiden. Da werden Stimmen imitiert -Lebensechte Videos von Personen des öffentliche Lebens erstellt. Schauspieler könnten ersetzt werden. Politiker hätten ebenfalls ihren Dienst getan. Wäre eine künstliche Intelligenz imstande, ohne Emotionen die Welt zu regieren. Längst nutzen Zeitungen, um Artikel zu schreiben, den Einsatz einer künstlichen Intelligenz.

Wir sollten aufpassen das uns diese Technologie nicht bald selbst um die Ohren fliegt. Wieviel ist noch gut?

Das Web wird überflutet mit angeblichen Fotos – erstellt mit künstlicher Intelligenz. Mittlerweile habe ich damit ein Problem. Warum kennzeichnet man das nicht als KI? Warum verkauft man ein Foto als selbst gemachtes geschossenes Foto? Wenn die Menschen, die KI Bilder erstellen, ihre Bilder in einem Raum ausstellen, wo es nur KI Bilder gibt, dann kann man sich auch daran messen. Aber ich sehe es als Betrug an, ein KI Bild als Foto zu verkaufen. Man sitzt in seinem Wohnzimmer oder wo auch immer, gibt ein paar Merkmale ein und Tada hat man Bild, als wenn man auf dem Himalaya war oder ein super Shooting mit einem Model hatte und Mega kreativ war.

Endlich Traumbilder wie man sie schon immer mal machen wollte. Merkt Ihr eigentlich noch was? Ihr betrügt Euch selbst! Zudem ist es ein Schlag jedes Fotografen ins Gesicht, dieses Kunst Handwerk, durch nicht gekennzeichnete KI, als Fotografie verkaufen zu wollen. Es ist ein Genre für sich, aber gehört sicherlich nicht in die Fotografie!

Tja – fotografieren will gelernt sein! Und ist wohl doch nicht so einfach, wie ein durch KI erstelltes Bild.

Something is taking over the world at a pace that we are unable to distinguish between truth and fiction. Voices are imitated - lifelike videos of public figures are created. Actors could be replaced. Politicians would also have done their job. Would an artificial intelligence be able to rule the world without emotions? Newspapers have long been using artificial intelligence to write articles.

We should be careful that this technology doesn't blow up in our faces. How much else is good?

The web is flooded with alleged photos – created with artificial intelligence. In the meantime, I have a problem with it. Why not label it as AI? Why sell a photo as a self-made photo? If the people who create AI images exhibit their images in a room where there are only AI images, then you can also measure yourself against that. But I see it as a scam to sell an AI image as a photo. You sit in your living room or wherever, type in a few features and Tada you have picture, as if you were in the Himalayas or had a great shoot with a model and was mega creative. Finally dream pictures like you always wanted to make.

Do you notice anything else? You are deceiving yourselves! In addition, it is a slap in the face of every photographer to want to sell this art craft, through unlabeled AI, as photography. It's a genre in itself, but certainly doesn't belong in photography!

Well, photography has to be learned! And it's probably not as easy as an image created by AI.

For Monochrome Monday here's a little vignette seemingly straight out of the old west. According to an old USGS topo map these ramshackle log cabin structures are in a place named Beals. But I can find no information about this spot other than that name. So perhaps it was just a lonely ranch or maybe it is a ghost town with a hidden past. It's fun to imagine that perhaps Kid Curry passed this way to rendezvous with Butch and Sundance at Hole-in-the-Wall or maybe Ike Gravelle rode through on his way to blow up the NP's Yellowstone River bridge near Livingston or....you fill in your own wild west tale.

But even if it doesn't look like it at times, it's very much the 21st century as Montana Rail Link's 844 Logan Local is seen at about MP 5.4 on MRL's 6th Sub (Harrison Branch) rolling north (timetable east) through a classic western high plains landscape. They are dropping downgrade toward Antelope Creek which they'll follow back through a canyon that cuts through the London Hills on their return toward the 5th Sub (former NP passenger main) at Sappington. Leading the eight loaded covered hoppers are two classic EMD GP35s, MRL 403 and 401 blt. Dec 1964 as DRGW 3039 and Jan. 1964 as DTI 353 respectively.

Serving only one customer, this branch sees service once a week at most to reach the tiny country elevator at the end of the line. I can't verify the veracity of this claim, but I've been told by railroaders that the only reason this anachronism survives is that the owner of the Harrison Elevator Co. is an old friend of MRL's owner, billionaire industrialist Dennis Washington. If true it would certainly help to explain the otherwise unexplainable!

This branch itself was originally built to Harrison by a Northern Pacific subsidiary in 1889 and extended a year later another 10 miles or so to Norris. Additionally at Harrison another branch forked 7 miles west to a small mining area at Pony. This branch was cut back by the NP during WWII and the outer 10 miles of the main stem to Norris succumbed under BN in 1975 leaving what was left to pass to MRL in 1987.

Settling nomads

Government policy aims to settle more and more nomads. It says that this is aimed at improving the economic viability of animal husbandry and lessening the effects of natural disasters on the livelihood of Tibetan herdsmen.

This allows the government to manage the nomadic population as it gives them fixed addresses.The Chinese government is removing the nomads from their traditional grasslands, sometimes forcibly, to exercise more control over the Tibetan population.

Culture shock

For most nomads, the transition to a more urban lifestyle is difficult.

They are often settled in featureless blocks of housing by the side of roads or in newly created urban areas, and face the problem of creating an entirely new and sustainable livelihood.

Approximately 40% of the ethnic Tibetan population is nomadic or semi-nomadic.

In a letter to Ban Ki-moon, the Norwegian Tibet Committee together with 168 other organisations, stated that "under Chinese occupation, Tibetans are being denied their fundamental right to make their own choices concerning how best to adapt to climate change. The impact of climate change combined with the repressive political system across Tibet makes Tibet's nomads one of the most vulnerable peoples on the Earth today".
