Royal Danish Library, Copenhagen
A wonderfully and stunning modern architecture master piece from 1999. It is a place to read, visit exhibitions, enjoy good café and food. It was nicknamed 'the Black Diamond' for its shiny irregular facets on the outside that mirror the sea and sky.
We had rented a small boat with an electric motor and sailed quietly along the city's canals, passing some of the most impressive buildings along the way.
The Pontsteiger is a residential tower in Amsterdam. Designed by Arons and Gelauff Architects it was chosen as the winning design in 2007 and, despite the financial crisis, was built almost according to the design in 2015. The ferry tower building is part of the Houthavens area development, and is therefore located on the IJ where the ferry leaves for the NDSM site and the Distelweg.
Construction of the 92-meter-high building was started in February 2015, the building was completed in 2018. The building is the highest residential building in Amsterdam.

Marina Bay Sands is one of the most iconic architectural master pieces of Singapore that it is safe to say that you have not really been to Singapore if you have not seen it. Top that up with the its fabulous light show that starts at 8pm and 9pm. What a sight to see and capture. Hope this will make you want to visit this beautiful place!
While I was shooting this amazing building from street level at the entrance of the Silodam, a lady passed by and asked what I was shooting, seeming interested in the ND filters I was using. After a chat where I explained what and how I was shooting she explained she was a portrait photographer and asked if I would be interested to shoot from her living room higher up in the building. Stocked at the opportunity she provided for me I joined her and shot a lot of frames from her living room.
Looking at the images I was shooting she came up with an even more epic angle on the other side of the Silodam where there is a huge balcony to shoot from and the angle on the Pontsteiger is just perfect! Amsteldok is a large office building on Amsteldijk and Trompenburgstraat in the Suth of Amsterdam. It was designed by the Rotterdam based architect Huig Aart Maaskant. Until 2019 the building was called Rivierstaete.
Rivierstaete was built between 1967 and 1973 and used to be the largest office building in Europe at a cost of 40,000,000 guilders. A metal sculpture by André Volten was placed in the Trompenburgstraat in 1972 during the construction period. The building had eight floors in staggered layers. The outside walls were covered with white tiles, making the building stand out among red brick residential buildings. 'The Monkey Rock' soon became the nickname of the Riverstaete buidling.
Several companies were located in the building. The Spyker automobile factory was built here at the beginning of the 20th century, after which the Nestelroy Trompenburg paper factory settled here, which was liquidated in 1968. The consulates of Peru and the Republic of Ivory Coast and the IT departments of the University of Amsterdam and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam were also located in the building. Currently WWP, Ogilvy and UberEats are located in the Amsteldok.

In 1996 the Thomas church on the Prinses Irenestraat in Amsterdam-Zuid was built and it’s currently owned by the Protestant church Amsterdam.
From 1955 there were plans for a Reformed church in the New South area of Amsterdam. The original building plans changed and the church became somewhat on the edge of the residential area instead of on a main road. Nowadays it is very close to the Zuidas and it’s office buildings.
The building was designed by architect Karel Sijmons and stands out for its austere layout, which is entirely devoted to Protestant worship. Three themes are central to this: the Word, the Baptism and the Supper.
The church has a sandstone floor which is a reference to the journey of the people of Israel through the desert and the undulating roof symbolizes the sea through which God led the Israelites under the leadership of Moses. The architect was inspired by the Notre Dame du Haut chapel in Ronchamp in France by architect Le Corbusier. This chapel also has a wavy roof.

The Pontsteiger is based on a hourglass shape that lands like a half-open building block. Placing the block on 7-meter-high pylons, the view of the water is preserved and the courtyard is freely accessible. There is also a landing place for the ferry, a harbour and a café on the corner.
This project shows that you can also enhance the living environment. For example, the wooden ceilings with which the balconies are finished. These wooden ceilings give the building a warm atmosphere, while referring to the locations history of timber docks while dampening the sound from the ports. Or the rolling shape of the entrance pavilions, which helps to limit wind nuisance in the courtyard.

Certainly this is something I can not ignore, "The stone boat of the Vizcaya museum", but I should tell you something, even if it sounds like gossip.
Well, first he will tell you that that softly eroded stone boat remembers a joyful December 25, 1916, when Deering came to spend his first season of entertainment far from the snow-covered Midwest.
You can tell that it is imposing to see it and you are full of questions, on the one hand you realize that its location prevents the erocion but if it had something decorative, the form of boat installed in the back and center, was equipped with electricity, Fountains, leafy potted plants, trees and even a gazebo for an intimate conversation.
Surely this house was an escape from this self-made millionaire, that's why there is an inscription on the personal balcony that there is behind looking at the bay that says: "Take the gifts of this hour, put aside the serious things .. " Certainly interesting words of emotional escape... This message fixed the mood of this twentieth century man after a hard day of industrial pionery, and continues to encourage viewers to give up their real-world woes to the exotic charms and healing of the immense heritage.
I could say that the creative invention of Deeringl began.
Located on opposite sides of the Piazza at Vizcaya’s current main entrance, framing one’s view of the Main House, are two slightly larger than life-size marble statues of Spanish explorers. Said to be the work of Giovanni Marchiori, the eighteenth-century sculptures were not voyagers when initially created, but instead portrayed Italian architectural master Andrea Palladio and sculptor and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini. With their 1919 installation at Vizcaya, the statues were modified to fit the mold of Vizcaya owner James Deering’s evolving fable.
And I want you to know something, so it's all here in this place, is pure creative fantasy.
Deering and his artistic director Paul Chalfin decided to alter the identities of the statues to Juan Ponce de León, Florida’s European founder, and Sebastián Vizcaíno, Vizcaya’s namesake. The figures now display the inscriptions “PONCE D LEON” and “BEL VIZCAYA.” All reference to the Italian architects is lost but for the records. Bernini morphed into Ponce de León (a bust at his feet was replaced with a globe incised with the Florida peninsula to cement his new identity), and Palladio became Bel Vizcaya.
“BEL VIZCAYA” is no one. He is but a fairytale creation of a Spanish explorer. And “Vizcaya” is somewhat of a misnomer.
While brainstorming an appropriate name for his estate, Deering had been told by local young adult writer Kirk Munroe that Vizcaíno had explored the waters off Miami. Munroe, it turns out, was better at writing adventure fiction than knowing historical facts. Vizcaíno’s travels brought him to the California coast, but never to Florida. Apparently there was another Vizcaíno, a navigator on de Leon’s crew, but it’s unclear if he ever saw Florida, and he was not famous by any account. Deering continued to consider the name even after research revealed the error. He wrote, in a 1915 letter to Chalfin, “I have finally yielded historic accuracy to my sense of beauty.” The next day, in a telegram to Chalfin, Deering wrote, “WILL KEEP PARTRIDGE TABLE AND ACCEPT NAME VIZIAYA.” It’s perfectly Vizcaya. In the naming, Deering chose beauty over accuracy, striving for a concept rather than the truth.
Like many objects at Vizcaya, the two “swashbuckling statues,” as Deering called them, were manipulated to serve a perceived need, transformed to fit a myth. Vizcaya is a story within stories Deering and Chalfin’s fabrication within the larger fictions of Miami, and of Florida all creating a past that never quite existed. These eighteenth-century sculptures of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century artists were reworked for placement in a nascent swampy city founded four years before the twentieth century.
Deering clearly wanted awareness of these two men, Ponce de León and Vizcaíno, foremost in the minds of visitors. Originally, he discussed naming two nearby islands after the Spanish voyagers, as the other primary entrance to Vizcaya was by boat and the one Deering preferred his guests utilize. The decision in favor of the statues, leaving the islands nameless, proved prescient, as those islands have since submerged into the depths of Biscayne Bay.
And so is the same with the stone boat, some say it is a Roman boat others that is Greek, but in fact it is a fusion of three creative styles, Norse, Greek and Roman, or God knows that some other occurrence..... ☺☺

Is it the sun, is it an Edelweiss flower, or is it the wheel of a steam locomotive? Sturdily braced in its iron mount, this symbolic feature is typical of local railway fences all over Vienna. It is always painted this shade of green, a colour widely used in Viennese art nouveau ("Jugendstil"). The old stations were designed by Vienna's early twentieth-century architectural master-mind, Otto Wagner. HFF!

Charlotte Square, designed by Robert Adam in 1786, was part of the initial phase of one of the first architectural master designs of the area known as Edinburgh's New Town, completed in the 1820's. Sadly, Adam died in 1792 just when building work began. The central house on this, the north side of the square is named Bute House - a four-storey terraced house which is the official residence of Scotland's First Minister, Ms Nicola Sturgeon.
The house contains the Cabinet Room, offices and conference, reception, sitting and dining rooms where Nicola works, and where Scottish Government ministers, official visitors and guests are received and entertained. The second and third floors contain the private residence of the First Minister.
Sadly, the new Cobbles Tour is not getting many passengers, and as can be seen again here, this bus is almost empty.
I had hoped that Nicola might have popped out to wave to the camera here, but I guess she’d be chairing important meetings.
This homes’ design was inspired by several California mid-century modern architectural masters, including John Lautner, Richard Neutra and E. Stewart Williams. This home, constructed of steel, stone, glass and concrete, takes some of its cues from Stewart Williams’ Edris house, as can be seen in the dramatically projecting slanted roof plane. The section of roof that projects over the front entrance contains solar panels. The prominent roof pivots from identical massive walls which are constructed from irregularly cut concrete blocks, a modern interpretation of a typical mid-century modern stone wall. There are several ways to enter the house, from inside the 6-car garage by elevator, or by taking either the staircase to the left, under the house, or the dramatic freestanding concrete staircase to the right that lands in front of the glass walled infinity-edge pool. There is a home gym located in the house at ground level adjacent to the glass-walled pool allowing for dramatic views of swimmers doing their laps. A stacked sandstone wall that deconstructs as it surrounds the pool is reminiscent of the stone used by Richard Neutra in his Kaufmann house. An all-glass entry door is situated behind the 3-storey high concrete wall which leads to a soaring glass enclosed space with a view throughout the entire first floor. The front of the house is glazed in Pilkington Profilit glass to allow privacy while letting in maximum light. The sides of the house feature large panes of plate glass.

"Masters’ Houses
by Walter Gropius (1925–26)
Parallel to the Bauhaus building, the city of Dessau commissioned Walter Gropius to construct three pairs of identical semi-detached houses for the Bauhaus masters and a detached house for the director. These were built in a small pine wood on the street now known as the Ebertallee.
Modular architecture
Gropius planned to build the complex based on a modular principle, using industrially prefabricated components. With this he wished to realise the principles of rational construction, both in the architecture and in the process of building per se. In view of the technical resources available at the time, his plan was only partially realised.
The buildings take the form of interlocking cubic structures of various heights. Towards the street the semi-detached houses are distinguished by generously glazed studios; vertical strip windows on the sides let light into the staircases. Only the director’s house featured an asymmetric arrangement of windows. The light-coloured houses have generously-sized terraces and balconies and feature colourful accents on the window reveals, the undersides of the balconies and the drainpipes.
Famous residents
[...] The list of residents reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of modernists: László Moholy-Nagy, Lyonel Feininger, Georg Muche, Oskar Schlemmer, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, along with their families. Others lived here later, including Hannes Meyer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Josef Albers, Hinnerk Scheper and Alfred Arndt. For the colour design of the interiors, artists such as Klee and Kandinsky developed own ideas that were closely related to their works.
War and its repercussions

At the start of Edinburgh's great winter of 2010 / '11 the repaint programme was in its infancy with most buses in the 1999 Harlequin livery. Dennis Dart SLF /SPD Plaxton Pointer number 96 (SN53 AVM) meanders gingerly around Charlotte Square on the second day of our snowy conditions (November the 29th) which virtually paralysed the city until early in January.
Due to the building of the tram line all city centre buses were diverted around this square and onto George Street and Queen Street. Number 96 is seen on Service 1 to Easter Road infront of the home of the home of Scotland's First Minister, then Alex Salmond but today it is Ms Nicola Sturgeon's Bute House.

Construída por escravos negros a mando dos jesuítas no século XVIII. Ironicamente, apesar do santo ao qual ela é dedicado ser negro, estes nunca puderam freqüentá-la em tempos de escravidão. É o ponto de partida da Marujada, uma das mais fortes manifestações culturais do Pará.
Curiosidade: segundo nosso fotógrafo mestrando em arquitetura, dotô Alexandre Lima, apesar de muito se alegar o contrário, esta igreja só tem uma torre por conta da pesada tributação do Império Português, que, à época, cobrava imposto pelo número de torres das igrejas.
Built by black slaves commanded by jesuit priests in the 18th century. Ironically, even though the saint to which it was dedicated happened to be a black person, those people were never allowed to go inside, in slavery times. It's the starting point to the Marujada, one of the strongest cultural manifestations in Pará state.
Curiously, says our soon-to-be architecture master Alexandre Lima, the only reason this church's got only one tower is the heavy taxes applied by the Portuguese Empire. At that time, they heavily taxed every tower of the churches.
This is the 5th in the series of 30 (of the 238 delivered) from this residence.
Here is the master bedroom which considering the amount of tile throughout the home is a bit of a departure from the rest of the house. I'm a big fan of carpet, so it gets a pass with me.
This was shot all ambient with a little spill coming in from the bathroom to the right. There is total blackness outside the patio door just above the pool because there is a brick wall there. The homes in Vegas (even the big ones) tend to have pretty narrow backyards.
One of the prominent Jaislamer attractions, the Tazia Tower bears relics to the rich architectural splendor of the ancient times. The five storeyed Tazia Tower was constructed by the Muslim artisans for their imperial rulers of Jaisalmer. Tazia Tower is an integral part of the architectural monument of the Badal Mahal
Tazia Tower was constructed in the form of Tazia that are usually part of Muslim religious festivities. Representing the secular identity of the region, the Muslim craftsmen had constructed the beautiful architectural master piece as gift for the imperial Hindu king of Maharawal Berisal Singh.

The five storeyed Tazia Tower was constructed by the Muslim artisans for their imperial rulers of Jaisalmer. Tazia Tower is an integral part of the architectural monument of the Badal Mahal
Tazia Tower was constructed in the form of Tazia that are usually part of Muslim religious festivities. Representing the secular identity of the region, the Muslim craftsmen had constructed the beautiful architectural master piece as gift for the imperial Hindu king of Maharawal Berisal Singh.
