Merry Christmas y'all.

I didn't have as much time to build during the CCC as I wanted too, but at least I'll be able to get two entries in. This is for the woodland hideaway category: The forestmen know how to hideaway in style.

faint hopes disappear somewhere

chasms appear everywhere

an opening for the soul, please, anywhere

claustrophic immunity gasps 'non-applicable'

suffocating elements escribe multi-visual

pains pennance never succumbs to a stumble

allow a halo once to extinguish this fulminating puzzle

So, how does a plate that came off what was presumably an HGV last taxed in 1987 come to still be in existence 23 years later?! It wasn’t like this place was an old scrapyard or anything either, far from it...

Sandhi Puja -

An integral and important part of Durga Puja, Sandhi Puja is performed at the juncture of the 8th and 9th lunar day. Sandhi puja lasts from the last 24 minutes of Ashtami till the first 24 minutes of Nabami. During this juncture (the "Sandhikhan"), Durga is worshipped in her Chamunda form. Devi Durga killed, Chando and Mundo, the two asuras at "Sandhikhan" and thus acquired the name of "Chamunda".

Myth behind Durga being worshipped as Chamunda -

While the Goddess and Mahishasura were engaged in a fierce battle, the two generals of Mahisha, Chando and Mundo attacked the Devi from the the rear. Durga appeared to them, a brilliantly glowing woman with her hair knotted on her head, a crescent moon above her forehead, a 'tilak' on her forehead and a garland around her neck. With golden earrings and clad in a yellow saari she emitted a golden glow. Her ten hands possessed ten different weapons. Though she appeared beautiful her face turned blue with anger when she faced Chondo and Mundo. From her third eye then emerged a Devi with a large falchion and a shield. She had a large face, bloody tongue and sunken blood shot eyes. She was Chamunda. With a bloodcurdling shriek she leapt forward and killed them. This moment was the juncture of the 8th and 9th lunar day.

Age old yardsticks for measuring the "Sandhikhan" -

Long back devotees in order to perform the Sandhi Puja at the exact juncture used a number of methods. With the last 24 mins. of the Ashtami puja still left, a bronze bowl with a tiny hole was placed in a bucket full of water. The bowl with the tiny hole was made in such a way that it took exactly 24 minutes for the bowl to submerge in the water. The moment the bowl submerged in the water cannon balls were fired announcing this moment of Sandhi Puja. This yardstick for measuring the "Sandhikhan" was very popular ages ago in many "Rajbaris". Many "Rajbaris", including, the zamindar of Sutanuti of Sobhabajar Rajbari fired cannon balls to announce the "Sandhikhan". People around Sobhabajar waited for this indication to proceed with their puja. King of Krishnanagar, Raja Krishna Chandra, was given the cannon of Plassey as a gift from Robert Clive. In Shikharbhum Rajbari a platter with vermillion (sindur) used to be kept in front of the Devi. It is said the foot prints of the Devi could be seen in the platter. This moment indicated the commencement of Sandhi Puja. Sabarno Raychoudhury of Barisha worshipped the Chamunda Devi by burning 'Layta' and 'Pholui' (types of fishes) fishes.

Things needed to perform Sandhi Puja -

Sandhi Puja requires 108 lotus flowers, a single fruit, dry rice grain for "noibiddo", 108 earthen lamps, clothes, jewelry, hibiscus garlands and wood apple (bel) leaves. The almost non existent rituals which underwent changes with the changes in the society can still be seen in some of the 200-250 year old Pujas.

THE TECHNIQUE IS SIMPLE BUT NEEDS PRACTICE. THANKS.

I am repeating the Exif shown to you here 8 months ago :

…………………………………………………………

You seem to be very very concerned about how do I make the Sun look so big !

Before I write something on this, please tell me in your photo attached, why you did not crop the top portion of the photo? That would have made the Sun look still bigger ! Please try to understand that, excepting Camera & appropriate lens, you have to apply some other techniques also !

Now please read the following :

Tanmoy Das [https://facebook.com/casualphotograph]

Many people have asked me about the same many a times and I have replied also.

Step 1 - Make your composition first focussing and try to guess how big the Sun you can make keeping other things more or less proportionate.

Step 2 - Leave the focus, physically come out of your composition place and focuss the Sun separately appropriately bigger. For this you need at least 70-300 or 100-400mm lens. Only Sun being focussed separately, it will obviously come out neat and blurrless, no other objects being in the Frame.

Step 3 - Lock this focuss or hold the focuss by pressing shutter button halfway, don't snap any photo at this stage. This is tough and you have to practice this.

Step 4 - Now come to the place of your original composition frame, still holding the same focuss, and after getting the original composition in the Frame, choose an angle, from where the other objects in the Frame, seem to be not as big as the Sun. Now snap the photo with the same focuss you were holding so long.

Result - All the objects in the frame will be sharp, no background or foreground blurrness will come and the Sun will also look big.

Other application - You can also take a Moon shot in the night (you need to practice a lot, it is very tough at night without any tripod) in the same way, whereby objects at infinite distance (Moon) and objects at finite distance (say tree leaves) will all come out sharp & clear and there will be no blurr at all, anywhere in the Frame.

Now some more Clarifications :

Hi Gautam,

I inserted my questions in your original text where I have inclearities:

Step 1 - Make your composition first focussing and try to guess how big the Sun you can make keeping other things more or less proportionate.

QUESTION: what does first focussing means here? having the corect composition of the picture or having the (autoforcus) being set correctly?

Step 2 - Leave the focus, physically come out of your composition place and focuss the Sun separately appropriately bigger. For this you need at least 70-300 or 100-400mm lens. Only Sun being focussed separately, it will obviously come out neat and blurrless, no other objects being in the Frame.

QUESTION: At the beginning you say "leave the focus" then you say "Sun being focussed separately". Do you make a separate photo only containing the sun?

Step 3 - Lock this focuss or hold the focuss by pressing shutter button halfway, don't snap any photo at this stage. This is tough and you have to practice this.

QUESTION: "Lock this focus" (which focus? the one of the separate sun?)

Step 4 - Now come to the place of your original composition frame, still holding the same focuss, and after getting the original composition in the Frame, choose an angle, from where the other objects in the Frame, seem to be not as big as the Sun. Now snap the photo with the same focuss you were holding so long.

QUESTION: "still holding the same focus" means here: still the same focus of the sun? and do zoom out to have a new composition?

Result - All the objects in the frame will be sharp, no background or foreground blurrness will come and the Sun will also look big.

The overall question is:

How much photos do I have to take? One with the sun and one with the entire composition (also containing the sun???). If I do two photos: how are the beeing merged? In photoshop?

Or do you have a camera which allows you to shoot two frames that are in one resulting photo?

Thanks in advance for a clarification of those questions.

Answer 1 - Making a correct MEASUREMENT of composition of a picture, to take an idea. nothing else.

Answer 2 - Only focuss the Sun separately appropriately bigger by zooming in - remember only the Sun, nothing else.

Answer 3 - Yes, with the separate Sun.

Answer 4 - Still holding the same focuss of the lone Sun. I repeat only the focuss. No photo involved.

Answer 5 - Please do not change the focuss any further now. Not to zoom out or zoom in , nor to touch the zooming ring. Already the earlier focuss is zoomed big which you are still holding on.

Answer 5 - Press the shutter now with the old focuss (without any change). Only one photo will be snapped. No question of any two photos or photoshop.

Answer 6 - I do not merge or shoot two photos for merging.

Thanks & Best regards

Gautam

This is for the 123 group who are visiting rabbits today for the Chinese Calendar.

I was chuntering away to myself yesterday, mostly about how I was going to find a rabbit, whether I should just photograph my dancing hares or attempt some elaborate dressing up. My husband had to go and get some stuff for the dog, and to prove he had actually paid attention to me 'rabbiting on' sent me this picture which he had taken on his phone. So I have taken a picture of my phone with his picture on it. There, done.

Apparently I am a Goat (according to the calendar). Goat people are supposed to be elegant (ha ha, no) charming (mmmmm) generous (maybe) wise (nope) and gentle (ha ha ha ha ha). They are also pessimists, hesitant, and over-anxious worriers (also not applicable). Uncertainty causes the Goat people to seek guidance from others while their timidity prevents them from becoming great leaders. (me - timid? how people would laugh!!!).

They are deeply religious (nope) and highly talented in the fields of art and music (nope). Goat people should be good in the professions of gardening, actor, artist, entertainer, musician, or photography (I am a scientist, but do like to garden, act, entertain and take pretty pictures).

I have another plan for the 365....

Nestled inside the hills of Munnar and very near to the Anamudi peak lies Mattupetty, the hill station at a height of 1,700 m. Mattupetty is located 13 km away from Munnar. Here you can enjoy the greenish valleys and feel the fabulous climate around. The main attraction of Mattupetty is the dam and the lake here.

The dam of Mattupetty is a storage concrete gravity dam. The dam was constructed under the Pallivasal Hydro-electric project in the late 1940s, for the purpose of water conservation and power generation. Now the dam is a vital source of electricity generation in Munnar and also a haven for many wild animals and birds due to its constant water availability.

The most attractive part of Mattupetty dam is its still water which reflects the tea garden around. You can engage yourself with water sport activities like speed boating organized by district Tourism Promotion Council of Idukki (Munnar) and enjoy the pretty natural surroundings of this beautiful dam. Adventure lovers also have options here like trekking in the Shola forest.

In the midst of the hills, surrounded by the tea gardens, Shola forest and hilly woods lays a beautiful lake, just a few miles away from the Mattupetty dam. The serene ambience of the lake will take you to a world of peace. You have endless options – either you can go for boating in the lake or you can sit on the shore enjoying the tranquility here. Tourists can go for a speed boat, pedal boat, motor boat or row boat.

Mattupetty is also known as ‘cattle village’, the name which came from the famous Indo Swiss farm project or Livestock project. The project was launched in the year 1963 as part of the bilateral agreement between India and the Swiss government. You can see hundreds of varieties of high yielding cattle in this farm. The sight of the cattle grazing freely on the hills of the wide farm is a unique experience which any tourist can have ever in his life.

The farm is around three kilometer away from the Mattupetty Dam and is dedicated to cattle development and research centre set up by the Government of Switzerland. At present the project is handled by the Kerala Livestock Development and Milk Marketing Board.

The best time to visit Mattupetty is from the month of August to May and it is very easily accessible from Munnar town.

Excerpt from stcatharines.ca:

Built in 1905 by the Cataract Power Company, numbers 3, 5, 11, and 15 Power Glen are wood frame workers’ cottages. The one and a half storey Carpenter Gothic homes retain much of their original character including: Greek revival pitched 6/9 roof; modern siding, which simulates the original clapboard finish; pattern of window and door openings (although the sashes have been changed), which reflect the homes’ traditional appearance; Greek revival front verandah with columns, baluster, rail and sweeping cornice (not applicable to number 15 Power Glen, which now contains a partially enclosed veranda); and a vent in the gable.

The addition of roof dormers and a west wing on number 3 Power Glen ring true to the home’s architectural character. Similarly, the addition of a west wing and garage (east side) at number 11 Power Glen, an east and west additions to number 15 Power Glen, are sympathetic to these homes. In addition, there have also been stylistic changes to number 11, including window shutters, a fish scale gable and drip mouldings over the windows and door.

- This Vee-butted fastback rear window boattail model was designed by by Jerry Hirshberg, under Bill Mitchell’s direction, inspired by the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Split-Window Coupé.

- The Gran Sport (GS) had standard rear stabilizer bar, whitewall radial tires with appropriately “tuned”suspension to suit and additional sound insulation.

The AMP suit from Avatar has long been one of my favorite scifi machines, so I was of course delighted when Lego released a set containing one! However, I feel the model from the set was lacking in many ways, so I made my own. I actually made my first AMP suit model wayyyyyy back in 2009 using LDD, back when you could still order your models to be built and shipped to you with printed instructions and box art.

I am confident that this model is as close to minifig scale as we can get without sacrificing structural integrity. I actually build-tested this model! The arms are fully articulated and the legs have hip and angle mobility. I actually really liked the unruly leg-with-fixed-knee piece as it fit the shaping perfectly and so the knees cannot move. Small price to pay. The cockpit is surprisingly spacious and stable (two words not normally applicable to cockpits in my models) and can easily fit an angry Colonel Quaritch figure.

This is also the first model I digitally created from scratch in Stud.io (normally I use Mecabricks first but parts were not available). As such, I took the opportunity to create detailed instructions, available on Rebrickable here!

The greatest dreams are always unrealistic !

Plumeria is a genus of flowering plants in the dogbane family, Apocynaceae. Most species are deciduous shrubs or small trees. The species variously are indigenous to Mexico, Central America, Hawaii and the Caribbean, and as far south as Brazil, but are grown as cosmopolitan ornamentals in warm regions. Common names for plants in the genus vary widely according to region, variety, and whim, but Frangipani or variations on that theme are the most common. Plumeria also is used directly as a common name, especially in horticultural circles.

Plumeria flowers are most fragrant at night in order to lure sphinx moths to pollinate them. The flowers yield no nectar, however, and simply trick their pollinators. The moths inadvertently pollinate them by transferring pollen from flower to flower in their fruitless search for nectar. Insects or human pollination can help create new varieties of plumeria. Plumeria trees from cross pollinated seeds may show characteristics of the mother tree or their flowers might just have a totally new look.]

Plumeria species may be propagated easily by cutting leafless stem tips in spring. Cuttings are allowed to dry at the base before planting in well-drained soil. Cuttings are particularly susceptible to rot in moist soil. One optional method to root cuttings is applying rooting hormone to the clean fresh-cut end to enable callusing. Plumeria cuttings could also be propagated by grafting a cutting to an already rooted system.] There are more than 300 named varieties of Plumeria.

In Persian, the name is yas or yasmin. In Bengali the name is "Kath Champa", in Hindi, champa, in Gujarati champo, in Marathi chafa (चाफा), in Telugu deva ganneru (divine nerium), in Meitei khagi leihao. In Hawaii, the name is melia, although common usage is still 'plumeria'. In Malayalam it is called Arali (അരളി). In Sri Lanka, it is referred to as araliya (අරලිය) and (in English) as the 'Temple Tree'. In Cantonese, it is known as gaai daan fa or the 'egg yolk flower' tree. The name lilawadi (originating from Thai) is found occasionally. In Indonesia, where the flower has been commonly associated with Balinese culture, it is known as kamboja, in Bali especially it is known as jepun. In French Polynesia it is called tipanie or tipanier and tīpani in the Cook Islands. In the Philippines it is called kalachuchi.

The Sun just peeping inn from behind the Mountains at the time of Sunrise. I was ready for some fantastic Sunrise shots in the freezing cold of the early morning ! But the cloud suddenly came from nowhere and messed up my photo session ! Nonetheless some refraction of lights due to this sudden cloud formation, gave me the opportunity to take some typical Sunrise shots, which otherwise would have never been possible.
