The Butler county Emergency Services Unit team will be a lot safer in the first armored vehicle procured by the county.

County commissioners approved using up to $331,750 in American Rescue Plan funds to buy a large Humvee-like tactical vehicle that is outfitted and armored to provide optimum safety for the law enforcement officers who use it.

District Attorney Rich Goldinger told the supervisors the team, which is basically the county's SWAT team, will use the vehicle in high-intensity situations such as active shooters, search warrants and applicable Drug and Alcohol Task Force calls.

The armored car's most important feature is that it is bullet-proof.

Kottayam is a city in the Indian state of Kerala covering an area of 55.40 square kilometres (21.39 sq mi). It is the administrative capital of Kottayam district and is located in south-central Kerala with a population of 357,533 according to the 2011 census.

The city is an important trading centre for spices and commercial crops, especially rubber. Major Kerala print media such as Malayala Manorama, Deepika and Mangalam are headquartered in the town. Also a pioneering center of modern education in Kerala, Kottayam became India's first city to achieve 100% literacy in 1989 while the district became the first tobacco free district in India on September 28, 2008. The city is also widely known as Akshara Nagari (അക്ഷര നഗരി) (City of Alphabets) in honour of its contributions to print media and literature. It is known as the "Land of Letters, Lakes and Latex" on account of the upsurge in literacy, the presence of a vast network of rivers and canals, which empty into the great expanse of Vembanad and the sizable volume of natural rubber produced here.

Apart from being the educational hub of Kerala, Kottayam is also home to central and state government organisations including Mahatma Gandhi University, Rubber Board and India's Rubber research Institute along with the Government Medical College, Kottayam. MRF Limited, the leading tyre manufacturer in India has its original roots in the city and has a hi-tech manufacturing facility located at Vadavathoor, Kottayam. D.C. Books, the largest publisher and a leading bookseller in Kerala, is headquartered in Kottayam.

Ranthambore National Park (Hindi: रणथंभौर राष्ट्रीय उद्यान ) or Ranthambhore is one of the largest national parks in northern India. It is situated in Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, about 110 km northeast of Kota and 160 km southeast of Jaipur, which is also the nearest airport. The nearest town and railway station is at Sawai Madhopur, about 11 km away; Kota is another convenient station as all trains stop here. RIDCOR operates a mega highway between Kota and Ranthambhore.

Ranthambhore was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955 by the Government of India and was declared one of the Project Tiger reserves in 1973. Ranthambore became a national park in 1980. In 1984, the adjacent forests were declared the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary, and in 1991 the tiger reserve was enlarged to include the Sawai Man Singh and Keladevi sanctuaries.

Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is known for its tigers and is one of the best places in India to see these majestic predators in the jungle. Tigers can be easily spotted even during the daytime. A good time to visit Ranthambore National Park is in November and May when the nature of the dry deciduous forests makes sightings common. Its deciduous forests were once a part of the magnificent jungles of Central India.

The park lies at the edge of a plateau and is bounded to the north by the Banas River and to the south by the Chambal River. There are several lakes in the park. It is named for the historic Ranthambhore fortress, which lies within the national park. The park covers an area of 392 km². It is known for its tiger population and is one of India's Project Tiger reserves. Other major wild animals include leopard, nilgai, wild boar, sambar, hyena, sloth bear and chital. It is home to wide variety of trees, plants, birds and reptiles. Ranthambore is the site of one of the largest banyan trees in India.

remember how she said that we would meet again

some sunny day

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i was inspired by pink floyd -- as i tend to be! -- and decided to portray my interpretation of "vera".

ok, i'm a dork who knows her stuff - vera is vera lynn, who was a singer during ww2. pink floyd (well, roger waters) is referring to her song "we'll meet again" when he asks, "remember how she said that we would meet again some sunny day?" in the film, pink (waters) loses his father in the war, someone he'll never meet again, as vera may have led him to believe. also, vera herself is a bit of an elusive character, since waters (pink) asks "what has become of you?" which implies that she, like her words, are no longer there, either not accessible or not applicable.

it's a sad feeling, because if you reject the belief that "we *will* meet again", you probably are left skeptical and feeling hopeless. in my photo, i tried to create that mood. the despondency, the heartache, the loss.. and it seems to me that those feelings would paint a pretty bleak picture of the future. even though MY vera has her eyes closed, she is not at peace with herself or her situation. instead, i'm having her revisiting memories, remembering the most beautiful times and reliving them over and over again. clinging to the blanket like she does to the past. lastly, i thought that with such a gloomy way of living/thinking, the pitchblack room save for the two floating lights was right on target... tiny lights, swallowed up in the sea of darkness and misery.

aaaand... that's me in the shawl blanket thing, perched atop the glass dining room table. you can't see the table, because it's glass, and the two green things are stone pillars that hold up the glass. i took all the chairs away from the table, switched off every light except for the three that hang from the ceiling over the table - those two (pictured) and another one that i cloned out because it was the closest to the camera, so bigger and kind of obstructive. i like these two little guys hanging out, hovering around me. it makes me look like princess leia :P

i'm actually really pleased with how this came out! pink floyd is my favorite band and i couldn't give them anything but (what i judge to be) my best.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hmm. i'm really happy to explain all of the thoughts, plans, ideas, setting up the stage, etc. that go into my shots. of course i always have these silly mustache shots or grrrawrr clint shots, or just blah "look at my beautiful eyes and lips" close-up shots, but i really love when i try to create a scene. a mood. play a character, one who's real, who's been done a million times, or that i just make up as i go along. the most consistent compliment (at least, i think it is a compliment!) i get from you peeps and others who look at my portfolio is that i create a cast of characters, i put on a show for myself and the camera just happens to be there. i love using props, and i love paying tribute to my literary, artistic & musical heroes and heroines (and obama!), but only if i do it well. i do put an awful lot of pressure on myself, especially for tribute shots; i always end up thinking, well, thom yorke did it better! or whatever.. sometimes my safest bet is to aim for a certain style. noir, or vintage in general, outlandish, ethereal, surreal, rough/raw. i don't know what i'm talking about now, but i'm kind of having this renaissance with my 365... embracing it again, really excited about what i can do next and happy with what i've been doing.

(sorry, london, but you had some weeeeird effect on me! poo faces)

Last month I took my car in for winterizing: studded snow tires on, replace block heater plug, check battery and coolant, etc. It was going to be a few hours, so I did a walkabout on the streets of Swift Current to see what I could see.

I'm not all that interested in "street scenes" per se - although I did consider hanging around a couple of the key intersections, nothing inspired me. There were few pedestrians and a lot of pickup trucks. It's a prairie town, after all.

It took 15 or 20 minutes to forget about content and just look at graphics, shooting freely. I know most viewers come to my site for the nature and wildlife images, so bear with me. Tackling other subject matter can be a good thing. It helps keep me fresh, and anything I learn about design is applicable to the photography of wild places. What interested me here was the juxtaposition of the natural and man-made. More to come...

-- Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

We are all multi-faceted; we have many emotions, desires, preferences, and personalities. I am certainly no exception. Most of my self-portraits thus far have been rather ... serious, or at least generally so. I've felt as though my creativity is limited to my 'deep thoughts' and my sense of humor isn't as applicable. Mainly, I'm usually just not smiling (with the exception of three or so shots). Some individuals (though I will not name them) had a first impression of me as someone serious, uptight, ... whatever. When I heard that, I laughed. And then thought to myself, hmm, is that true? No. Fair enough, but is that how I want others to perceive me? It's definitely not how I perceive myself. I like to have others see me as I'd like to be seen (who doesn't?) -- and I'd like to be seen as who I truly am, not some ideal. Truly, I laugh constantly. I joke constantly. I am too sarcastic. I make really, really corny jokes (e.g. "What do you call cheese that isn't yours? ... Na-cho cheese!" & "What time do you go to the dentist? ... Tooth-hurty!" & etc. etc. ad infinitum...). I love slapstick humor (e.g. Mel Brooks is my hero). Et al.

I am also deeply devoted to the intellect. I'm a philosopher by nature and college degree, and I love it more than just about anything. I know this part of me has come forth strongly in my photostream. I also studied neuroscience as an accompaniment to my theories about consciousness and personal identity. I've learned never to take a single thing for granted, believe anything beyond a shadow of a doubt, or throw my words around haphazardly. Sure, this makes me an analytic bastard who is anal about semantics and logic. People tend to find this tedious. So I have to reconcile two parts of myself: the silly idiot who is always ready to laugh at her own expense, and the thoroughly introspective and scientific seeker. Throw in creativity (which I *think* I have ;-) and you've got me. A big melting pot of talent, absurdity, philosophy, and passion.

Many thanks and love to Maite for picking "Self-Reflection" as today's FGR theme.

Excerpt from ontariorailwaystations.wordpress.com/home/hastings-county...:

Original Train Station

•Construction Date: The building was constructed with the opening of the line in 1900 (some sources indicate 1909) by the Central Ontario Railway

•Architect/Builder: Unknown

•Station Style: To be determined, building design is very similar to a CPR Type Six

•Exterior Architecture Details: The building was a one and a half storey frame structure with a high hip, roof broken by a gable roofed dormer above a rectangular operator window

•Interior Architectural Details: The station contained a passenger waiting room, ticket/operator office, and a large attached gable roofed freight shed

•Landscaping & Ground Details: Cinder platform

•Building Costs: Unknown

•Destruction Date: Not applicable

•Current Use: In 1995, the building was significantly damaged by a fire. The station was converted into a mineral museum, art gallery and several community uses until 2008 when it was condemned (uses relocated elsewhere). At that time, funding was obtained through a Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund grant from the Federal Government to rehabilitate the building, which was completed and opened in August 2013. The building now contains the Bancroft Municipal Office (through purchase of the building in 2016) along with the Chamber of Commerce Office and the Bancroft Gem & Mineral Club Mineral Museum

•Designations: None

Playing with my own Kodak Ektar 100 simulation and also the 70mm digital conversion setting. Photography is fun.

My Kodak Ektar Simulation is as follows:

Astia

DR 400

White Balance - auto +3 red -2 blue

Highlight +1

Shadow +3

Colour +4

Noise reduction -3

Sharpness 0

Clarity +1

Grain weak small

Colour Chrome Effect Strong

Colour Chrome FX Blue weak

The way I do it is to first do a basic edit with Elements 25 then I go into Fuji Raw editing and process my raw photos again adjusting the above as applicable. The most often change is to lower shadow setting from +3 to a lower setting. I then compare the Elements jepg to the Fuji raw jepg and just keep the best one I like. I do not record jepg in the camera. As for this photo the Elements gave more accurate details but the Fuji Raw gave a more arty finish. At the moment it’s about 60% elements to 40% Fuji Raw Edit.

Finally we saw a film at our local theatre called Souleymane’s Story which we did not have a clue about but what I really loved about the film was the colours the film makers used and the colour of the Ektar 100 I remember when using film. The filming was not filmed with analogue film I would imagine but I just loved it.

Now I've got to hold my hands up on this one and admit there's a lot of artistic licence in the creation of this image, let me explain.

Basically I've wanted this shot since I first visited Venice in April 2014, but there was always an element to the image that just wasn't working. Mainly because this is where the Ali Laguna boats moor and more often than not there's always one or more there, but when they weren't there were other elements that weren't working in terms of light, tide etc...

So in 2015 I had another go at this (on more than one occasion on that trip), only to return empty handed. Again in 2016 I had another go at this (again, on more than one occasion), again, only to return empty handed.

Having got so many images from here and having reviewed each one so many times, it suddenly occurred to me that I had what I wanted, but it would be a case of combining different elements from the different images I had taken over the past 3 years.

To say this was a challenge was putting it mildly, as with most of my shots these days it's a stitched shot (2 shots vertically stitched) and I've just counted the layers of which there are 87, that's probably a record for me. In addition to this, there were a few posts that I removed as they made the image unbalanced, therefore, I removed them having the rebuild the buildings behind.

Got to say there was a lot of frustration along the way, but I had fun processing this one and learned a lot in doing so.

Jalori Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 10,800 ft (3.120m) above the sea level, situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh that links the inner and outer Seraj valley. The Jalori Mata Temple locate here is visited by thousands of devotees from the nearby villages. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple though small yet it is visited by every person who comes to the pass.

The Sarolsar Lake is located very close to the pass. The drive to reach the pass is unforgettable.

To make sure one gets his vehicle and self well-prepared before driving this road. At the top of the Jalori Pass there are restaurants available to take lunch, and the Mahakali temple known as Jalori Mata, visited by thousands of devotees from the nearby villages. Jalori Pass is the first Indian pass to open every year, and is driveable by all vehicles, but are advised to go down in first gear only, according to Indian signals. This pass remains closed in peak on winter only. So in months of December, January and February one need to check before using this road. Usually opens around second week of March every year and closes mid december, depending on the snow.

The road's winding design, providing stunning panoramic views, is very curvy and fun for a leisurely ride, so it pays to take it slow. From Ghayagi to Jalori Pass, the road is a mix of mud and pebbles restricting the speed of the vehicle to barely 20 kmph. After Shoja, the climb to Jalori Pass is steep and just about 3 kms before the pass, road conditions become bad, narrow and steep which makes it more difficult to climb even in first gear.

A traveller on this road must follow some rules: Extreme caution advised, drive in first gear only, steepest gradient, most dangerous curves along the road.

Pulicat lake bird sanctuary is a saline backwater lake lying along the T.N.-A.P coast; part extending to Chengalpattu district of T.N. It has an area of 481 sq.KM and it is the 2nd largest brackish water lagoon in India after Chilka lake in Orissa. The area on the TN side is 153.67 sq.km.

The Pulicat sanctuary is drained by Arni river while the Buckingham canal brings in the city’s drainage water. At the southern end is an opening on to Bay of Bengal through a shallow mouth of 200 m in width. The rest of the lake is closed by a sand bar running parallel to the Bay of Bengal in the form of the Sriharikota island.

The sanctuary has an area of 321 Sq. KM with 108 sq.KM of National Park area.

It lies within 11o 30’ N to 11o 42’ N and 76o 30’ E to 76o 45’ E.

Rainfall ranges from 800 - 2000mm. Temperature varies from 14o C to 33o C.

Altitude ranges from 100’ MSL to 1200’ MSL.

The wetlands eco system are considered as among the richest areas of bio diversity. Pulicat, by virtue of the mixing of fresh water with sea water is found to be an ideal habitat for diverse life-forms. 160 species of fish, 25 species of polychaete worms, 12 species of prawn, 19 species of mollusk and 100 speceis of birds are well documented apart from a number of other aquatic flora and fauna.

Among the most spectacular is the flamingo-a tall gaunt, white-coloured bird with a touch of pink on the wings, pink beak and legs, seen feeding in shallow water. The squat, large-billed grey pelican with gular pouch and a number of ducks are commonly seen. Flocks of sea gulls and terns circling in the sky or bobbing up and down on the water are an added attraction at pulicat. Besides, there are a number of waterside birds and waders such as curlews, stilts, plovers, sand pipers, lapwings, redshank. Egrets, herons, kites etc. are some other birds found here. The lake is also home to crabs, clams, mussels, oysters, snails, fish worms, insects, spiders, sponges, anemone, prawns, plankton and so on including rare endemic species like gilled leech, an unidentified bloodred fish, etc., Rapid siltation has caused loss of bio diversity. It is seen that mangrove opllen is found on Sriharikota Island indicating their existence some years back. Loss of mangroves may be one of the resons hastening siltation, reducing biodiversity and hence depriving fisherfolk of their livelihood.

Winter mountain photography is extremely challenging, it can also be incredibly rewarding. This is a shot I've been after for 7 years. Last week I saw a promising looking weather window, I packed up my winter gear and headed to Bend.

I left town at 2:30am and started snowshoeing at 3:30am on Friday. It was 5 degrees at snow park when I left and only got colder as I climbed. I received a couple minor frostbite burns when I took my gloves off and accidentally touched a metal piece of my tripod. It dumped snow on me the entire climb, and the wind was howling. The snow was so deep and cold, even with snowshoes I was sinking to my knee with each step. I had my doubts on climb up the mountain, it was snowing pretty hard, but I could see an opening above my head and stars shining through. I pressed on and hoped for the best.

I was rewarded for my effort. When I reached the top it was 40 minutes before sunrise. I looked back at Mt Bachelor and saw the clouds parting around the mountain in the predawn light. It's hard to describe the sense of awe and wonder I felt as I watched this incredible scene unfold before my eyes. Majestic, and awesome come to mind as applicable superlatives. In any case it was a moving experience.

The mountain was only clear of clouds for 5 or 10 minutes, by the time the sun came up the mountain was under the clouds once again. I was extremely grateful for those few minutes working in light my buddy Sean Bagshaw dubbed salmon light.

Wisdom includes the strength to listen.

It includes the maturity to know we cannot know everything, to realise that knowledge is an on-going process.

Wisdom itself is not a line we cross and are suddenly made wise, but rather a continuous gathering of insights, perceptions and information – all of which is changing.

Everything changes because change is all there is and to continue growing, we must change also.

What was once relevant or applicable in the past, may no longer be useful to us.

So we must watch and listen and be humble enough to embrace the limits of our understanding.

Wisdom is the opposite of imagining we know everything.

The Chamera Dam impounds the River Ravi and supports the hydroelectricity project in the region. It is located near the town of Dalhousie, in the Chamba district in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India The reservoir of the dam is the Chamera Lake.

After completion of the first phase, the Chamera-I generates 540 MW (3x180 MW) of electricity. The second stage i.e. Chamera-II Dam generates 300 MW (3X100 MW) of electricity. From year 2012, the 3rd stage i.e. Chamera III generates 231 MW (3x77) of electricity.

The unique feature of the region is the fluctuating day and night temperature. The temperature during the day near the dam rises up to 35 degrees Celsius and drops to a minimum of 18 to 20 °C at night.

The water level in the Chamera Lake rises to a maximum of 763 meters while the minimum water level is 747 meters.

The absence of aquatic life in the lake has made it an ideal location for water sports. According to the plan developed by the tourism department, the lake shares the scope of sports activities like rowing, motor boating, paddle boating, sailing, canoeing, angling and kayaking. House boats and shikaras are also available. The government attempts to provide all these facilities to the tourists.

Barium chloride is the inorganic compound with the formula BaCl2. It is one of the most common water-soluble salts of barium. Like other barium salts, it is toxic and imparts a yellow-green coloration to a flame. It is also hygroscopic.

As an inexpensive, soluble salt of barium, barium chloride finds wide application in the laboratory. It is commonly used as a test for sulfate ion. In industry, barium chloride is mainly used in the purification of brine solution in caustic chlorine plants and also in the manufacture of heat treatment salts, case hardening of steel, in the manufacture of pigments, and in the manufacture of other barium salts. BaCl2 is also used in fireworks to give a bright green color. However, its toxicity limits its applicability.

Thank you to my sister, Oddolie, who by chance was awake when I was at 4 AM in the morning, standing on our little platform. I've felt a bit like a bowl of scrambled eggs the last few days, but she kept me grounded, lent me her ever listening ear, then had me laughing minutes later. This pose pack was inspired and named by her. It was made for those bebes that are a bit on the wild side, with a "Peekaboo", "I See You", "Down Under", "Mah Toes", and shrugging "Ionno" pose.

I want to give another thank you to Kaecee, for who "Down Under" is named after, eheheheheh. We had a really great laugh recently LOL, and you can't ever go wrong with one of those.

Eminem - Stay wide awake

Stay wide awake

A world so dark, a world so cold

A world where only some will go

But not return, when will they learn

Where do they go, God only knows

Stay wide awake

I made this picture yesterday in a grassland in Leiden. I adapted this picture with Lightroom and Photoshop and uploaded it on Flickr. Then I start thinking of a good title for this picture. I thought: Eminem, the best rapper ever, must have some applicable income lyrics. And yes, he has a song called Stay wide awake.

In this song he raps about a dark and cold world, where he is a part of. I quote the lyrics from the song: ''so dark and so cold, my friends don't know this other side of me". I think these lyrics are comparable with this picture. The sky is really bright which stands for Eminems bright side of life. But the snow is cold and darker than the sky so the snow stands for Eminems dark side of life.

Good morning, everyone! Just a reminder that wherever applicable, Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 AM Sunday morning...and we fall back! Most importantly, it is the perfect time to replace the batteries in your smoke alarms and make sure they, and any fire extinguishers you may have, are in perfect working order..and review what to do in case of a fire with family members!!! It only takes a few minutes and may save your life...and it beats raking leaves or watching the rain fall!!!

Have a safe n happy Halloween, ya'll!!! : )
