Plumeria is a genus of flowering plants in the dogbane family, Apocynaceae. Most species are deciduous shrubs or small trees. The species variously are indigenous to Mexico, Central America, Hawaii and the Caribbean, and as far south as Brazil, but are grown as cosmopolitan ornamentals in warm regions. Common names for plants in the genus vary widely according to region, variety, and whim, but Frangipani or variations on that theme are the most common. Plumeria also is used directly as a common name, especially in horticultural circles.

Plumeria flowers are most fragrant at night in order to lure sphinx moths to pollinate them. The flowers yield no nectar, however, and simply trick their pollinators. The moths inadvertently pollinate them by transferring pollen from flower to flower in their fruitless search for nectar. Insects or human pollination can help create new varieties of plumeria. Plumeria trees from cross pollinated seeds may show characteristics of the mother tree or their flowers might just have a totally new look.]

Plumeria species may be propagated easily by cutting leafless stem tips in spring. Cuttings are allowed to dry at the base before planting in well-drained soil. Cuttings are particularly susceptible to rot in moist soil. One optional method to root cuttings is applying rooting hormone to the clean fresh-cut end to enable callusing. Plumeria cuttings could also be propagated by grafting a cutting to an already rooted system.] There are more than 300 named varieties of Plumeria.

In Persian, the name is yas or yasmin. In Bengali the name is "Kath Champa", in Hindi, champa, in Gujarati champo, in Marathi chafa (चाफा), in Telugu deva ganneru (divine nerium), in Meitei khagi leihao. In Hawaii, the name is melia, although common usage is still 'plumeria'. In Malayalam it is called Arali (അരളി). In Sri Lanka, it is referred to as araliya (අරලිය) and (in English) as the 'Temple Tree'. In Cantonese, it is known as gaai daan fa or the 'egg yolk flower' tree. The name lilawadi (originating from Thai) is found occasionally. In Indonesia, where the flower has been commonly associated with Balinese culture, it is known as kamboja, in Bali especially it is known as jepun. In French Polynesia it is called tipanie or tipanier and tīpani in the Cook Islands. In the Philippines it is called kalachuchi.

Excerpt from stcatharines.ca:

Built in 1905 by the Cataract Power Company, numbers 3, 5, 11, and 15 Power Glen are wood frame workers’ cottages. The one and a half storey Carpenter Gothic homes retain much of their original character including: Greek revival pitched 6/9 roof; modern siding, which simulates the original clapboard finish; pattern of window and door openings (although the sashes have been changed), which reflect the homes’ traditional appearance; Greek revival front verandah with columns, baluster, rail and sweeping cornice (not applicable to number 15 Power Glen, which now contains a partially enclosed veranda); and a vent in the gable.

The addition of roof dormers and a west wing on number 3 Power Glen ring true to the home’s architectural character. Similarly, the addition of a west wing and garage (east side) at number 11 Power Glen, an east and west additions to number 15 Power Glen, are sympathetic to these homes. In addition, there have also been stylistic changes to number 11, including window shutters, a fish scale gable and drip mouldings over the windows and door.

The Sun just peeping inn from behind the Mountains at the time of Sunrise. I was ready for some fantastic Sunrise shots in the freezing cold of the early morning ! But the cloud suddenly came from nowhere and messed up my photo session ! Nonetheless some refraction of lights due to this sudden cloud formation, gave me the opportunity to take some typical Sunrise shots, which otherwise would have never been possible.

- The Mercury Cougar was a car sold under the Lincoln-Mercury division of the Ford Motor Company.

- From 1972 Ford was moving the Cougar away from performance and towards luxury, because of the oil embargo and shortage, high insurance premiums, as government regulations increased, safety concerns escalated and an impending energy crisis was on the horizon. The ’71 model still had 240 bhp / 5.00 rpm, while the ’72 and ’73 model “only” had 168 bhp.

- This second generation Cougar was available as this 2-door Hardtop Coupé with a rear featured semi-fastback with a "flying buttress" sail-panel and as 2-door Convertible 76D (4,247 units built).

- The first (1967-1970) and second generation Cougars (1971-1973) were assembled in Dearborn (Michigan), in Edison (New Jersey) and in Milpitas (California).

(Finally his wait ended after about an hour when a group of men came to him in a boat through the river. I was not feeling safe.I had altogether taken three shots of him pretending to be very innocent and that I am busy with my other photography and not at all interested in him. I left the place quietly. This place is far and remote.)

The Black Drongo (Dicrurus macrocercus) is a small Asian passerine bird of the drongo family Dicruridae. It is a common resident breeder in much of tropical southern Asia from southwest Iran through India and Sri Lanka east to southern China and Indonesia. It is a wholly black bird with a distinctive forked tail and measures 28 cm (11 in) in length. Feeding on insects, it is common in open agricultural areas and light forest throughout its range, perching conspicuously on a bare perch or along power or telephone lines. The species is known for its aggressive behaviour towards much larger birds, such as crows, never hesitating to dive-bomb any birds of prey that invades its territory. This behaviour earns it the informal name of King Crow. Smaller birds often nest in the well-guarded vicinity of a nesting Black Drongo. Previously considered a subspecies (Dicrurus adsimilis macrocercus) of the African Fork-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus adsimilis), it is now recognized as a full species.

The Black Drongo has been introduced to some Pacific islands, where it has thrived and become abundant to the point of threatening and causing the extinction of native and endemic bird species there.

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

The Toda people are a small pastoral community who live on the isolated Nilgiri plateau of Southern India. Before the 18th century, the Toda coexisted locally with other communities, including the Kota, and Kuruba, in a loose caste-like community organisation in which the Toda were the top ranking. The Toda population has hovered in the range 700 to 900 during the last century. Although an insignificant fraction of the large population of India, the Toda have attracted (since the late 18th century), "a most disproportionate amount of attention because of their ethnological aberrancy" and "their unlikeness to their neighbours in appearance, manners, and customs." The study of their culture by anthropologists and linguists would prove important in the creation of the fields of social anthropology and ethnomusicology.

The Toda traditionally live in settlements consisting of three to seven small thatched houses, constructed in the shape of half-barrels and spread across the slopes of the pasture. They traditionally trade dairy products with their Nilgiri neighbour people. Toda religion centres on the buffalo; consequently, rituals are performed for all dairy activities as well as for the ordination of dairymen-priests. The religious and funerary rites provide the social context in which complex poetic songs about the cult of the buffalo are composed and chanted. Fraternal polyandry in traditional Toda society was fairly common; however, this has now largely been abandoned. During the last quarter of the 20th century, some Toda pasture land was lost due to agriculture by outsiders or afforestation by the State Government of Tamil Nadu. This has threatened to undermine Toda culture by greatly diminishing the buffalo herds; however during the last decade both Toda society and culture have also become the focus of an international effort at culturally sensitive environmental restoration. The Toda lands are now a part of The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-designated International Biosphere Reserve and is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site.
