“Pink like the inside of your, baby (we're all just pink)

Pink like the walls and the doors, maybe (deep inside, we're all just pink)

Pink like your fingers in my, maybe

Pink is the truth you can't hide

Pink like your tongue going round, baby

Pink like the sun going down, maybe

Pink like the holes in your heart, baby

Pink is my favorite part” 🌸

“To be rejected by someone doesn't mean you should also reject yourself or that you should think of yourself as a lesser person. It doesn't mean that nobody will ever love you anymore. Remember that only ONE person has rejected you at the moment, and it only hurt so much because to you, that person's opinion symbolized the opinion of the whole world, of God.” ―Jocelyn Soriano, Mend My Broken Heart

“Simplicity, patience, compassion.

These three are your greatest treasures.

Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.

Patient with both friends and enemies,

you accord with the way things are.

Compassionate toward yourself,

you reconcile all beings in the world.”

“Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements - the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution and for life - weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. So, forget Jesus. The stars died so that you could be here today.” ―Lawrence M. Krauss

Both of these bronze spearheads are tall and slender with defined central ridges.

One example is un-ornamented, while the other exhibits rows of symmetrical openwork and widens at the base like an arrowhead.

Hollow sockets with small holes reveal that these spearheads were once mounted atop staffs and wielded from a distance.

Donald Moffett’s “He Kills Me” is a particularly damning critique of political apathy toward people suffering from AIDS during the time. In Moffett’s original, an image of a Day-Glo target is paired with an image of Ronald Reagan stamped with the titular words. Here it’s been installed as a step and repeat wallpaper, at once both amplifying its message and all but guaranteeing that numerous selfies will be taken in front of it.

The exhibit also explores the political and social issues of the decade, including the AIDS crisis and the Cold War.

Artist Donald Moffett’s piece “He Kills Me,” displays alternating images of former President Ronald Reagan and hypnotic spirals behind a TV screen that shows a video of people, while the title “People with AIDS” is displayed.

“He Kills Me” (1987) by Donald Moffett, a poster originally designed for use in protests of the federal government’s inaction during the AIDS epidemic of the late 1980s, exemplifies this theme. The poster features an image of a smiling Ronald Reagan and the words “He Kills Me” in a simple, blocky font. Moffett uses bold colors, an aesthetic reminiscent of contemporary advertising, to make the poster attractive to the public. The brightness of the design is a stark contrast to its message.

Infantrymen are the best-represented rank in the terracotta army, with hundreds excavated.

This earthenware example stands attentively with an austere expression on his face. His detailed rendering includes a topknot, a robe and neck-guard, short trousers, boots, and plated chest and shoulder armor.

While some terracotta infantrymen held pole-arms, others, such as this example, were equipped with only a crossbow and positioned behind defensive lines of unarmored infantry and chariots.

“HALKA/HAITI 18°48’05″N 72°23’01″W,” by C.T. Jasper and Joanna Malinowska features a Polish opera being performed on a Haitian street. The depicted Haitian community has Polish heritage, but little else is shared between the classic opera setting and the setting of this film. As motorcycles drive past and goats mingle in the streets, the opera that the performers sing is just as captivating, if not more so, than a traditional opera hall performance.

The camera in this film does not move, allowing the raw emotions of the scene to take center stage. The organic nature of the filmed audience is equally as important as the opera itself, as it brings a level of humanity to a typically elite art form.
