The answer to the trivia question is...
The trees you see along the street are Elm trees. Cities in the US lost their Elms in the middle part of the last century. Million upon millions of trees died as a result of Dutch Elm Disease.(DED). Until I saw this sign in Regina, Saskatchewan I had no idea the battle still raged. Both Manitoba and Saskatchewan are on the front line and both have a good number of trees left.
Most of us never got to see our streets lined with this noble tree. Its fountain shape is what distinguishes from other trees which created a cathedral or tunnel effect down the streets. I am speculating here but my guess the current Arbor Day Foundation push for urban forests is a result of the loss of these trees.
All to often the Elms where replaced with low quality Silver Maples or other fast growing trees which as they aged began to look like coat racks and became a danger to life and property. Today you see many of these replacement trees being replaced themselves.
One can only wonder how the current line up of "replacement" trees will perform. In my humble opinion Bardford Pears just don't hack it!

Pablo Neruda

Maj. Gen. William Wofford, the adjutant general of Arkansas, answers a question for Governor Mike Beebe during a stop to assess the ice storm damage in the Northeast corner of the state on January 30, 2009. Community leaders were desperate for help with the entire county's power out as a result of the storm. The Arkansas Guard had been tasked with over 40 state active duty missions at that time with 180 Soldiers and Airmen on duty to support them. As a result of the damage assessment visits to five locations across the northern third of the state, an additional 800 Soldiers and Airmen were called out for support. Arkansas Department of Emergency Management Director David Maxwell accompanied the Governor on the flight along with Wofford and numerous other leaders to ensure all needs were supported as possible. University Theatre presents John Cariani's LOVE/SICK at NC State's Titmus Theatre in Thompson Hall. Nine slightly twisted and completely hilarious short plays full of imperfect lovers and dreamers, this romp explores the pain and the joy that comes with being in love. An unromantic comedy for the romantic in everyone.

The signals all are flashing red
It doesn't matter what was said
This bed is much too big without me and you
This all seems so ridiculous
Why can't we just get over this
Don't make me say the obvious
Without you
