The question: "What's the difference between a 3/4 helmet and a full face helmet?"

I've since learned that the correct answer is: "1/4"

Oregon raises money to take care of roads and bridges through a gas tax paid at the pump and vehicle fees. With more vehicles getting much better fuel efficiency, many people are paying less in gas taxes while using the road just as much. OReGO was designed to ensure drivers pay for what they use – miles of road – instead of what they consume – gallons of fuel. But most people don’t know a lot about how they pay for roads.

With federal grant funding, ODOT designed the Keep Oregon Connected campaign to help Oregonians understand the transportation funding problem, what it means for them and how OReGO works to solve it. ODOT will bring the campaign to community events around the state now through 2020, beginning with the Oregon State Fair in Salem, August 23-25. Follow ODOT on Facebook or on Twitter @OregonDOT to learn about future Keep Oregon Connected events.

The motor mounting plate is then unbolted and slid out from under the wiring harness. This reveals the 2 brass flywheels for the capstans

The belt linking them is then slipped off and the capstans/flywheels slid out of the upper bearings. Finally the reel drive belt is pulled through the chassis slot.

May your unfailing love come to me, Lord,

your salvation, according to your promise;

then I can answer anyone who taunts me,

for I trust in your word.

Never take your word of truth from my mouth,

for I have put my hope in your laws.

I will always obey your law,

for ever and ever.

I will walk about in freedom,

for I have sought out your precepts.

I will speak of your statutes before kings

and will not be put to shame,

for I delight in your commands

because I love them.

I reach out for your commands, which I love,

that I may meditate on your decrees.

[Psalm 119:41-48 NIV]

5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

1. Like it or not, we are ALL sinners: As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:10-12 NLT)

2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)

3. Jesus is our only hope: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)

4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)

5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)

Read the Bible for yourself. Allow the Lord to speak to you through his Word. YOUR ETERNITY IS AT STAKE!

The abouna get a call on his mobile inside the church of Saint Antony. Despite the thick adobe walls, we could still get cell reception here. Yes, the monks have cell phones. Why wouldn't they?

The church was recently restored inside. The icons are stunning. Beautiful examples of medieval iconography of the Coptic art. Underneath this church is the oldest Coptic cell in the world. It dates to the 4th century AD.

Does Detroit want your help? The short answer is, of course they do. The reality, as often is the case in Detroit, is a bit more complicated than short answers. The city clearly needs help but old politics and bitterness find a way to continually disrupt any meaningful effort to overhaul the city. And meaningful effort is the minimum the city requires. That is the bleak, underlying, issue behind the recent news surrounding the city finances. What is remarkable are the actions of citizens throughout the city taking matters into their own hands in the face of the circus downtown and in Lansing. While the political hacks and their cronies posture and preen for the cameras and their vested constituents, folks in the neighborhood are rebuilding, creating parks and community gardens. Turning barren, empty lots and burned out relics into useful spaces for their neighbors. The politicians won’t save the city, only the citizens can save the city. In the long run I bet they will.

I grew up just a few miles west of Brightmoor. As long as I can remember this area of the city had a tough reputation. My father was raised a few east of this area on the Westside and he tells me when he was a kid, back in the war years, Brightmoor was to be avoided. Recent years have been even less kind to this neighborhood, if you can imagine that. The population has dwindled from over 20,000 at the beginning of the decade, down to around 12,000 today. That is on the heels of another 20 years of steady population loss. It all adds up to vacancy- house, businesses, lots- you name it. Several community groups are fighting back and converting the open space into parks and gardens. This is being done with little help from the city. Frankly, it is likely being done in spite of the city, seeing how city officials hate folks taking action without their permission. It may be years or generations before this area of the city fills with houses and businesses again. In the meantime, this community is fighting the blight and trying to create a truly livable neighborhood. That, my friends, is the city’s best hope for a future.

Life in Bihari Camp

Dhaka, Bangladesh

A young girl writes a poem where she asks a simple question -- one which no one can answer. She asks, “Who am I?” Her forefathers were born in India, they immigrated to Pakistan, she was born in Bangladesh. India has given up on them a long time back, Bangladesh will not accept them as the children of the land and Pakistan will not take them back. She says that she has many names 'Bihari', 'Maura', 'Muhajir', 'Non-Bangalee', 'Marwari', 'Urdu-speaker', 'Refugee', and 'Stranded Pakistani'. But she only wants one: human. This is the state of being of the 1.6 lakh camp-based Urdu-speaking community in Bangladesh. In Geneva camp now about 4 lac urdu speaking Indian & Pakistani peoples are living .

After the partition of India in 1947, faced with large-scale communal riots on both sides of the border, a few hundred thousand Muslims from Bihar, Kolkata, Uttar Pradesh, Maddhya Pradesh and as far away as Hyderabad came to the then East Pakistan. All India Muslim League Chief Muhammad Ali Jinnah promised them that Pakistan would be 'a safe haven for all Muslims'. As is typical of people migrating from a common locality, 'Biharis' lived in separate clusters from the Bangalis. Their communities were concentrated in areas in Mohammadpur, Mirpur, Khulna, Chittagong and Santahar.

the new generation who were born after the war and comprise the biggest chunk of camp-dwellers don't have any affiliations with either India or Pakistan. They were born in this country and identify themselves as Bangladeshis. Unfortunately the state is reluctant to accept them as such. It's a very complex issue because a lot of ambivalence from the majority population that is skeptical about these people's loyalty to the country they want to be citizens of. But the inhuman conditions they are living in and the subsequent effect it is bound to have on the society as a whole makes it imperative to resolve this painful issue.

About two dozen McMinnville High School engineering students toured the South Yamhill River Bridge Replacement Project in McMinnville this spring for a real-life look at some of the things they’d learned in class.

This project replaces the 1951 South Yamhill River Bridge on a busy route into and out of McMinnville. The new bridge will be 48 feet wide, compared to the old bridge at 35 feet, and it will better accommodate large trucks, bicycles and pedestrians.

Construction began in 2021, and we expect to finish the project by the end of 2024
