don't think i've shared this one. same girl i met and shot a long while ago on the bus.

I took the kids to the beach in Ventura yesterday since it was seasonably warm outside. Other people were there too, like this woman strolling by with her small backpack on. I actually shot this from the hip, since I am, a bit timid about asking folks for their photo.

I'm leaving tomorrow for Philadelphia until the end of the week. Anyone have suggestions on what to do/shoot out there? (this is coming from someone who used to live in Philly for 4 years)

I think I forgot to upload this some time ago. I was experimenting with some Peter Hurley influenced lighting.

This lithograph was a gift to me from Eric Chahi, who painted the original oil and who created the classic game Another World, for which this was the box cover art.

I know - another alcoholic beverage. I promise I do have other more sober images. Another pic from the holiday. (still working through my pics - only about a thousand to go!!!) This one is from Montenegro where we visited for the day and had a "malo pivo" (small beer) at a lovely wee place called Perast. Well I was driving and it was hot.

my most interesting on black: www.fluidr.com/photos/lindadevolder/interesting

This was a self assignment. I wanted to sketch in pen without doing any pre-planning or pencil layout first. Just draw what's in front of you with no photo reference. Jump right in, start drawing in pen, and fill the page. So, that's what I did. Then I added the watercolor. Took about an hour.

Jixi Coal Railway 'SY' class 2-8-2 No.0950 being serviced as the sun rises on 9th January 2010 at Didao Hebei coal washery. With no wind to clear it away, the smog from the burning fires in the hutong dwellings hangs in the cold air, creating an atmospheric but choking dawn. Oh yes, I must comment that it's invariably easier for the locals to walk in the middle of the 'four foot' as there's too much ice alongside the tracks from the cylinder drain cocks!

[Indonesia] IN ANOTHER WORLD: Started on Ramadan 2006, construction of the Mutiara Hati Beriman Pesantren (Koran learning centre) has been temporarily stopped due to the onset of the 2007 fasting month and a lack of funds. The mosque is the brainchild of Iskandar Abdurrahman.

Abdurrahman (b. 1965), or Thio Yit Po, was born in Lampung, Sumatra, to a Hakha Chinese father and a Sundanese mother from Cirebon, west Java. His father was a Christian reverend who converted to Islam when Abdurrahman was ten after learning more about the religion. Abdurrahman converted in 1985 and went on the hajj in 1997. Since young, he lived in Chinese residential areas but studied in government schools. As such, he had both Chinese and pribumi (indigenous) friends. His father raised him as a Chinese son, encouraging him to do business and not to work for someone else. However, Abdurrahman seems more interested in education. His Bachelor degree was in Islamic Education. His Master was in Development Studies. To support himself, he came to Salatiga, central Java, in 1985 to work in a textile factory. Over the years, while he was in charge of quality control at the factory, his work as a kyai (religious teacher) grew. He eventually decided to build the pesantren.

The mosque is designed like a pagoda because he wants to remind the believers that they should learn and adopt different perspectives on religious and societal issues. It is also to illustrate the fact that there is Islamic architecture from China, says Abdurrahman. The mosque has five floors, referencing the five pillars of Islam. Apart from imparting religious knowledge, Abdurrahman hopes to incorporate lessons on business communication and entrepreneurship in his pesantren. At the same time, he aims to improve the living conditions of the residents beside the mosque through the setting up of cottage industries and a cooperative. While his plan sounds haphazard, Abdurrahman believes Allah will reward his positive attitude and hard work.

At around 7pm, residents around the mosque are seen performing Tarawih (non-obligatory evening prayers during the fasting month) led by the Islamic teacher.

Since then, construction of the pesantren has made further progress. Toilet facilities and one storey of guestrooms have already been built. Foundations for the upper floors of the mosque and classrooms for the santri (students of Islamic schools) have also been put in place.

Yes it's another sunset from a place I will see less and less of,

It's in the middle of the city, but still beautiful,

It comes at the end of a work day, when you look forward to

going home and getting some rest.

Seeing the sunset gives you pause and a nice feeling to end your day.

Another Phoenix.

Made another bag this time I used a sun print that I made this summer. I only have the negative and need to get an actual photo printed as it's a man drinking a beer as he takes a pee. It's on the inside of the bag.

Braeburn to Carmacks Expedition via Waterways

Section Five: Nordenskiold River. Flower Mountain Put-in [61°45'57.73"N/136°1'17.78"W] to Montague Mt Take-out at 61°51'25.8"N/136°6'31.33W.

I couldn't find any information of previous attempts to paddle this river system and I doubt many have, as the water level is quite low. This means dragging the boat behind for long stretches, climbing over numerous log jams and beaver dams, and diving under overhanging brush and sweepers. There were some really bad obstructions between Twin Lakes and the confluence of Kirkland Creek. The Nordenskiold enters almost unnoticable from the left bringing brown silty water to the clear Klusha. After Kirkland Creek the river [Nordenskiold] turns to a nice woodland river with almost non obstructions and the water quality improves. This section [5] had just two logjams that required dragging the boats around, but there were some sweepers to squeeze underneath and the usual mess of sticks in the outside curves. The river is fast in some tight corners with lots of driftwood subsurface that requires constant attention.

Another free roadside bike.

This tall 3-speed was leaning against a hedge on North Dairy Rd years ago. It suffered a head-on collision at some point, since the front fender was nearly touching the downtube and the toptube & downtube both showed flaking paint where they had flexed. Yarded it straight this past summer, and the ride is certainly improved ;^).

I had to do a lot of clean up due to dirty water marks left on the window but the contrast of her colors makes it feel like she is right there without anything in the way.
