Could this be an ancient map of the world? Some of the continents are correct but not all are shown.

Some time off on Flickr to reflect on other fun activities in life always a plus!

I took this shot in Oct 2016 in Rhodes Greece with some editing in a dramatic perspective.

Rhodes (or Rodos) is an island in the Aegean Sea, the largest of the Dodecanese Island complex. This is the Acropolis Hill, Lindos, of the Island built around 500 BC. Rhodes was considered strong power nation at that time period.

Now, for something completely different! I've been captivated by the geology of the Colorado Plateau for years, but I've often found it difficult to fully represent just how crazy it really is. I hope this series of six images helps convey my boundless interest in the subject.

And since I've been getting a lot of questions about it, yes - my first official processing video is still slated for release in December!

This is what the ancient Roman amphitheater in Caesarea looks like before a big concert.

Kilminorth Woods … The Giants Hedge.

The Giant's Hedge was once over nine miles long and probably dates from the Sixth Century. Some well-preserved sections are here in Kilminorth woods, and it appears to pre-date the woodland. What you can see is a stone faced earth bank between one and two metres high. Originally it was flanked by a ditch and toped by a hedge or fence. Now colonised by mature trees, wild flowers and many species of ferns and mosses, it is a valuable habitat for wildlife.

The royal & Ancient Golf. The old course is in Saint Andrews Scotland. It is a coastal city northeast of Edinburgh, on the east coast of Scotland. It is known for its numerous golf courses, such as the Old Course, with the iconic Swilcan bridge on the 18th hole.

Ancient remnants of a playa stand up out of the sea of sand like a platform as the last of the day's sunshine peeks through a gap in the clouds onto the Last Chance Range. Walking on the sand sometimes produced a hollow sound, suggesting that perhaps other sections of the ancient lake bed are trapped beneath the grains.

This colourful image is a topography map of a portion of the region known as Terra Sirenum, located in the southern hemisphere of Mars. The map is colour-coded, with reds and whites representing the highest topography and blues and purples the lowest.

The images shows a myriad of terrain types including cliffs, impact craters, channels carved into steep slopes, wrinkled ridges and scarps, which together reflect a rich geological history.

Perhaps the most prominent feature is the portion of uneven chaotic terrain towards the centre of the image. This is Atlantis Chaos, a lowland plain covering around 170 km by 145 km and containing a few hundred small peaks and flat-topped hills. They are thought to result from the slow erosion of a once-continuous solid plateau.

A number of impact craters occupy the scene and span a range of ages, with the most ancient with almost undetectable rims that have eroded over time. Indeed, the outline of the giant Atlantis Basin is hard to see, but lies at the centre of the image and spans over 200 km. It is connected to another large basin located further south (left) with a diameter of 175 km.

Scientists suspect that some of the craters and basins in this area may have once contained standing water. Indeed, channels carved into the slopes of the ancient basins provide evidence for the existence of water in this region’s past.

Explore this region in more detail in a new video, published today.

This image is a mosaic of four images taken by the Mars Express High Resolution Stereo Camera on 28 December 2008, 29 December 2008, 6 February 2009 and 5 January 2014. The image resolution is roughly 14 m per pixel. Read more about this region here.
