Colorado Springs, CO - The orange sandstones of Garden of the Gods were once sand dunes about 250 million years ago. At least that's the current estimate.
The park has several paved paths for an easy hike, it's also popular with rock climbers.

The ancient Moche murals on Huaca Cao Viejo at the Complejo arqueológico El Brujo in northern Perú were created by first laying down a thick layer of mud on which the design was drawn. Then a thin layer of color was applied.
Here's my latest build, built for the Colossal Battle Contest and also for LoR. I like how it turned out and am pleased to build some more meso-american temples and ruins! I got inspiration from several real temples however it is not based off any particular one. Hope you like it!
Up to week three in RogueOlympics and this time the prompt was “Volume”. I went with the literary definition, “a book forming part of a work or series,” building this old library scene. 101 parts used.

There is an ancient yew tree towards the corner of the graveyard at St Mary's church in Astbury. It's a tree that defies logic, being totally hollow leaving a knotted bark on two sides so that a person can walk right through where the backbone of the tree should be. It leans at about 45 degrees to the horizontal and despite the almost complete lack of a solid trunk it has a large and healthy canopy of branches and leaves. But most amazing of all, is that it has been scientifically dated to being around 2000 years old. This picture is of a portion of its outer trunk, a piece perhaps 50 x 50 cms. We all get a bit gnarly and wrinkled after a handful of decades. Imagine what we would look like after 2000 years.

Pompeii ruins of structures in an ancient Roman city were buried under a layer of lapilli (burning fragments of pumice stone)... by volcanic eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. The excavated ruins of Pompeii are 25 km/15 miles southeast of Naples, Italy.
Another Norfolk image to share but something different to the others I've posted. We passed St Benets Abby on the boat and from seeing this place I knew I just had to go back at night for a spot of light painting. Luckily there is a mooring less than 5 minutes walk from here so we moored up for the night and I went after the sun had set to have a play.
I didn't take many tools on holiday but did have my new 'ball of light tool' which I used to spin the orb, I then added the light trails with a pixel whip finishing off by side lighting the structure to bring out the textures of the stonework plus a light pass of blue light on the brickwork behind the orb. All done in one exposure with no photoshop apart from converting the single Raw image to JPEG and resize for web.

Many of the bristlecone pine trees in the Schulman Grove of the Ancient Bristlecone Forest are more than 4,000 years old. These trees survive in the harshest conditions at elevations from 9,800 ft to 11,000 ft-- in fact they will die sooner if they get too much water.
