Not much cloud in the sky but always worth a visit to the beach.
The ancient forest was covered in peat before eventually being swallowed by the sea.
Legends say trees and nearby township were flooded after a priestess neglected a magical well.
Conditions inside the peat, devoid of oxygen and slightly alkaline, have meant the stumps survived.
Hubbard Glacier, Alaska.
The Hubbard Glacier is about 76 miles long and plunges 1200 feet into the depths of the bay. It takes 400 years for the ice to travel from the beginning of the glacier until it reaches the bay where it calves off 10 story building size icebergs into the water.
A glacier appears blue because the weight deforms the layers of overlying snow and ice. The red (long wavelengths) part of white light is absorbed by ice and the blue (short wavelengths) light is transmitted and scattered.

Kizhi, Russia. Actual ancient church shot in 2009 and image given antique look.
The church dates from 1714 and was built without any nails. It is in Karelia.
In Bancroft near the chaotic temporary roadworks. Did not get as much of the reflection of the building in the very modern car parked waiting for the traffic to move but I think the building is still worth uploading.
I took this image last February on a lovely road trip that took me through Glencoe up to Isle of Skye. Having never visited this area before, I was struck by the beauty that was all around. I was hoping for a bit of snow on the peaks, and when I first entered the valley and got the conditions I had envisioned, I couldn't be happier. This was the first shot I took when getting there.

The art left on canyon walls fires the imagination. Persons living in a stone age civilization left imaginative paintings and etchings, but what was the motivation? So many possibilities...
The stunning granite boulder filled beach of Granite Bay. Moulded round through millions of years of errosion from surf and weather. After a few weeks of rain, they have a nice green moss covering. The sun just setting behind dolphin point you see on the left. You would think after visiting here so many times, it would get boring, but far from the truth! Every time I take a stroll through the National Park here, things seem so different.
If you look closely on the point, you can see 3 fishermen..
