I attended a course in Bromoil in Middelburg last weekend (with Kees Brandenburg). For me a difficult technique. This one was done on Kentmere Fineprint VC Finegrain, semi matt. Not as good paper as Kentmere Art Document which is not available anymore.

This 4x5 argyrotype contact print is the second print I made during my first argyrotype session a few weeks back and the best of the three I tried that night.
Printed from a 4x5 sheet of Arista.EDU 200 I shot in my Chamonix 045-n1 using an old 1950s "photocrat" contact printer outfitted with a CF UV "black light" bulb. Exposed for 5 minutes on Moab Entrada rag paper that I tore down to size (its what I had on hand). Toned in selenium at 1:200 for a couple of minutes before fixing -- at the time I wasnt sure if it had any effect, since then I've switched to 1:125 and printed enough to be able to see the difference between my untoned and toned images.
I've since set up a UV printing box and have started making digital internegatives on the Epson 2200 for my non-4x5 work, plus its nice being able to print larger than 4x5! I wrote about my experience getting set up on my tumblr, see: Digital Negatives and Alternative Process Printing on a Budget.

These are cyanotypes exposed under a UV bed for about 25 minuets. The negatives were printed on Pictorico.
I am so amazed by alternative photographic processes. Chemistry, sun and water mix to make the most amazing prints. Its almost magical! With each new print I am like a kid, anxiously awaiting to see the final product. After 20 sheets of watercolor paper were spoiled, I finally discovered my formula for the perfect amount of chemicals and sun exposure for the perfect print.
I feel everyone should have this experience, its great way to get back to the roots of photography!

This is an unretouched (except for straightening and cropping) platinum/palladium toned Kallitype print of a 256-step grid using a digital negative made with a customized gradient in Adobe Photoshop. As you can see, the original grid came from Peter Mrhar and is available when you buy his excellent book "Easy Digital Negatives." I followed the procedure in the book to make the negative for this print.

I participated in the 33rd Foreign Artists Exhibition in Nagoya from 30th October until 4th November. This year I exhibited prints from four 19th century processes: calotype, cyanotype, kallitype and Van Dyke Brown. This is one of the kallitype prints.
