“Whether it's a dream or a trance, in an altered state you are able to access something other than your conventional reality. It could be induced by adrenaline, hypnosis, drugs, the internet, a ritual, a death in the family, or an epiphany. An altered state applies equally to the mind as it does to the body. It speaks to physical transformations, metamorphoses, chemical reactions, and other processes of change. It is a process of enacting change. As a verb, it means the potential to shift the structures, systems, and institutions that shape our world. We attempt to transcend by any means necessary. Enjoy the trip.”

In the context of the Advanced Practices in Video, Performance and Electronic Arts course at Concordia University, students created a personal body of work, refined technical expertise, and developed a visual and critical language related to video, performance, and electronic arts. As an end of programme course, students organized an exhibit to showcase their work.

One of my favorite things to do is to go into nature and just time to think and relax. I love seeing the natural world around me because I find most things beautiful when untouched. However, that does not mean that I do not enjoy artistic beauty such as architecture. In my opinion sculptures and painting can sometimes be just as beautiful as the natural world. I like to look at things that give you time to think about life and appreciate its beauty.

In my photography I like to capture the world as it appears. I like to take photographs without having to set up the scene too much. If I do set something up I like to make it look natural. I find things in their natural state to be very appealing to me because it is just so ordinary. I like to find beauty in ordinary places because so many times they are overlooked.

In my self-portrait I did dress myself up in a way that I think is very classy. I love dressing up and just looking beautiful instead of sexy. I like to take time to do my hair and makeup, even though I’m not the greatest at it. I like the vintage look because to me it’s classy and beautiful and I tried to emulate an aspect of it in my self-portrait because I like to look at beautiful things. In my alter ego I tried make myself look like gothic/emo. I don’t go out wearing dark clothing along with wearing a bunch of eyeliner or makeup in general. I also don’t think I have the personality to be someone who dresses like that, so that is why I choose to be gothic looking in my alter ego.

From the videogame Odin Sphere, this is a product from Alter (alter-web.jp/figure/08/12_2/index.html). I wish I had a way to better demonstrate the awesomness of this figure: the wings and the lance's gem are translucent! :D

Can't remember details about this house - only that our guide had concerns that the facade had been altered. I do like the colors.

Lamprophyre in the Precambrian of Ontario, Canada.

This is part of an igneous dike composed of a rare igneous rock called lamprophyre. Such rocks are ultrapotassic, mafic to ultramafic, intrusive igneous rocks. This one is a gray hornblende lamprophyre with altered mantle xenoliths (= large object at center; "xeno" = foreign; "lith" = rock). Xenoliths are pieces of rock that have fallen from the walls or roof of a cooling magma chamber. The examples at this locality are composed of talc and acicular/bladed actinolite.

--------------------------------

Description from Wilson (2006):

These rocks are characterized by prominent round, to elliptical inclusions of actinolite or actinolite plus talc. Xenoliths are altered to fine-grained actinolite with or without talc, and some display zoning from talc core to an actinolite rim. The actinolite inclusions may consist of prismatic green crystals as large as 8 centimeters in length, which may be randomly oriented or radiating inward towards the core. The inclusions containing talc consist of a talc core with the prismatic to acicular actinolite projecting radially inward towards the core. The xenoliths are believed to represent at least two original mafic compositions which are likely to be originally of lower crust origin or deeper.

This dike may be the one described by Higgins (1986). He reported that the dike consists of 60% euhedral amphibole, 20% biotite replacing amphibole and 15% plagioclase. Minor sphene and opaque minerals are present and chromite is reported from the core of the talc-bearing clasts. The bulk composition of the nodules is reportedly pyroxenite, but Higgins did not indicate whether their source was mantle or crust. The rounded outline of the clasts may reflect magmatic erosion during transport and the present mineralogy is the product of regional metamorphism (Higgins 1986).

The church building is thought to be Saxon, with some of the stonework of the nave and chancel pre-dating the Norman Conquest of 1066. The church is dedicated to St Oswald, the Christian king of Northumbria until 642. There are substantial fragments of two Anglo-Saxon crosses - the Apostle's Cross, dated between the 8th and 10th Centuries, and a second Runic Cross decorated with intertwined dragons (or horses), thought to date from circa 900AD. The building was enlarged in the 14th century and the tower added in the 16th century. It was substantially altered internally in the 1840s and the windows changed from stone mullions to'Gothic' style.
