'Life-saving amputation' is a legitimate surgical term, but a friend once invented its extreme version: 'life-saving decapitation'. This is what they seem to do to trees in early spring, an ugly operation (for a while) to provide for new life just weeks later. This scene looked truly surreal and form a different planet...

Weirdness - a few sources, for unknown reasons, label the AvP:R aliens "Warrior Carved Aliens." I don't know why this is, except that some of their details seem sharper, and thus "carved" in.
The second of two semi-static posed figures is complete. This version depicts the creature as it appears in the deleted "crab-walker" scene from the 1979 film as Lambert and Parker make a desperate attempt to escape the Nostromo. This deleted scene however was thought comical by many, not well executed on film and revealed too much of the creature...reducing it to nothing more than a man in a rubber suit...something Ridley Scott was avoiding by using smoke and shadow.
Hand sculpted, hand painted. 1:18 scale. I borrowed resin cast parts from the original Alien figure I created a year earlier, made modifications to the torso, neck, shoulders
and legs.
When crouched or "crab walking", the figure is approx. 3" high from highest point on head to the feet. When standing, the figure is approx. 5.25" high, still not fully erect as the leg and hip joints limit the full motion (again, this was originally meant to be a static posed figure). Fortunately I was able to add several articulation points to the figure: Ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. Vacuum formed PETG dome is removable. The tail is static but is attached using a revoltech joint and can be switched out with a longer tail option.
Original was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two part epoxy. Parts were cast in resin and assembled to build this version. Used Model Masters Polly Scale and Tamiya acrylics.

Alien Invasion is now lame. ‘Pandemic’ seems to be the new horror film theme of choice.
So I am pretty sure that this is an 'Ambush Bug'. Thank you to Bob for turning me in the right direction for identifying it. This was about half the size of a ladybug and appeared to be a small piece of fallen, dried up leaf at first… and then it moved!!! (Obviously, this has been severely cropped) It is sitting on a milkweed seed pod.

Random people. Taken a while ago in a pub. I think the guy's hair makes him look like Predator from the movie, and the lass's smile isn't entirely human - the Alien!

After agreeing to take my head out of the vise, the Alien divulged a little of his secret project. He has rebuilt the propulsion system used on his old spacecraft. It is of the BALanced Lithium Bromide USing TantalusER (BALLBUSTER) class. It can generate enough thrust to push thru the space time warp and pluck notes on the string theory.

While we were hearing about the missile site, a menacing flying saucer suddenly blocked out the sun over the Bay Area. Supt. Dave Matthews, always at the ready, mobilized the Nike Missiles and dispatched a message to the aliens that humankind would not be assimilated this day. Our world, saved once again. For now.
Had a work retreat to Angel Island in the Bay. Got amazing views while biking the perimeter of the island. There are beautiful and creepy abandoned military buildings in clusters all over the island. Angel Island was military for 200 years, serving as a fort, a gun battery, an immigration station and quarantine, and a Nike Missile site - plenty of good history there.
Back before the invasion, the A.D.U. was a pair of star searchers looking for life from other worlds.
Quite the relaxed time, parked in a field, good tunes blasting from their custom jukebox trailer, scanning the skies for broadcasts, sipping on a cool drink. They hoped to get a transmission from extra terrestrials, but the closest they ever got was 'Space Truckin'."
It wasn't until those hooligans from outer space came along in their van, defacing the rolling fields of wheat that things got serious. This was the A.D.U.'s field for driving around in, not some green skinned jerk's. When Uncle Sam came a-calling, the Alien Discovery Unit was the first to be called to defend our planet, and with some government funding they became the force many of us now know today.
