Another shot done with the 400mm from far far away, and again, the sensation of something "alien". The place looks more shot in a movie of Ridley Scott, than in the italian mountains.

The rock formations at Talisker Bay on the Isle of Skye are pretty amazing to see up close. The waterline consists of huge boulders that have fallen from the surrounding cliffs and are gradually being eroded and rounded and the stacks are imposing and threatening in their shape and stature. Getting to the water’s edge for some long exposure shoots involved rock clambering at an Olympic standard and should be attempted only by the fit and confident. I’d have ruled myself out if I wasn’t so foolhardy as to find this out the hard way. But climb out to the edge I did and managed to grab a few interesting shots before being chased back in by a rapidly rising tide. All in all it is a place that is in equal measure intimidating and beautiful. Not an easy location to shoot but one that is well worth the effort.

Sunday hiking on top of the Wiehengebirge, extremely foggy (you cannot see it - HDR goes through the fog). In this special atmosphere the trees felt like alien, no sound could be heard. Dehme, Ostwestfalen, Germany
Unbelievable details in this blossom. You can not see this with your eyes. It looks so fluffy and soft, but extremely fragile when you zoom in!

An alien was right there! I've made a very strange discovery when post-processing my photo. During the whole time I’ve been in this spot (a couple of hours) I was being attentively followed and observed by "something". You can see its eyes and profile if you augment the image and observe the ground in between the trees (about 8-10 meters from where I was standing). Most certainly the “alien” was a fox or some other small animal… Anyway, it’s weird! Being observed from so close (and being unaware of it) from something totally unknown…
This is the first star trail I’ve ever made. Star trails are done when shots include, on purpose, the stars movement. This one is the result of stitching 50 long exposure shots in post, to create that beautiful effect (100 shots or more would be even better but that became impossible, when morning light came up into play to disturb my plan…).
It was taken last year at 4.30am on a new moon night at Alqueva (Alentejo region, Portugal). Alqueva is Europe’s certified biggest (and best) dark sky reserve. The flooded area resulting from the construction of the Alqueva dam originated the largest artificial lake in Europe and the inexistence of sizable cities or even small villages in its surroundings, created ideal conditions for astrophotography. It is considered to be the darkest area in Europe.

I've seen a lot of Flickr friends post in the 'Smile on Saturday' group so I thought I'd join in on the fun. This was taken in my garden using an extension tube on an old Pentacon 50mm lens. I don't know why but the first thing that came to mind when I saw it on my computer was the monster in the Alien films - all those teeth ready to explode out of that flower head!
