On Day 6, it started raining at 3am. Hard. We spent the next 3 hours bailing our tent out. By the time we finished breakfast, the rain was only sporadic, but everything was soaked.

Some people decided not to ride, but many of us were pumped up and ready to go in our rain gear. Including these guys, who made rain gear out of garbage bags and plastic sheets.

This guy was there almost every day on the toughest hill of the day, singing songs and pulling people up the hill with an imaginary rope. Once I saw him push someone for about 20 feet up the hill.

To reach the half way point, one must surmount a daunting pair of climbs known as the twin sisters. At the top, we all lined up, victorious and exhausted to have our pictures taken. What you dont see are all of the riotously exhausted riders slipping on the smooth rocks because their cycling shoes have no purchase while struggling to lift their bikes overhead. Still, once all was said and done, these could be some of the coolest portraits from the ride.

I believe that World History is a reflection of the thoughts, actions and words, of Human Beings. Therefore, I have choosen to be a positive addition to History. And, I strive to live a non- violent(ahimsa) and empowering way of life. [However, I'm not a saint/far from perfect].

In June 2010, for my 13th Year, I will participate in an event to benefit the S.F. AIDS Foundation called AIDS LifeCycle. Each year, I cycle 575 miles (from S.F to L.A, CA.). And, I complete the ride knowing I did the right

Day 6 -- Lompoc to Ventura: for some reason my lens cover decided to randomly partially open

And although the training rides are hard enough, each year, I must raise a minimum of $3000.00 to participate in the AIDSlifecycle, 7 day, 575 mile, bike journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Therefore, thanks the the generous donations from the New Belgium Brewing Company & Fat Tire Beer, t's time for the Fat Tire Beer Bust Fundraising Party - ynottony1.blogspot.com/2009/02/fat-tire-beer.html

Every night they'd truck your gear from one campsite to the next in something like 15 or 20 Ryder trucks. it would all be waiting in a pile for you to find when you got in to camp that night. So, your nightly routine was something like this:

1. park bike

2. find gear and tent somewhere in ginormous pile

3. set up tent at your designated location (they had the campsite laid out in a grid with markers for where every tent went)

4. shower

5. eat

6. eat again

7. sleep

Eighteen hundred riders and more than four hundred staff meant well over a thousand tents spread out across the various fields and parks that we took over each night along the route. This is a shot of the Lompoc camp, one of my favorites because of the artificial lake just beside the tents.

With over 1,000 tents, it's important to be able to recognize yours in the middle of the night when returning from the port-a-potty.

Thirteen times, I have cycled 575 miles (from San Francisco to Los Angeles) in a bike ride event now titled AIDSLifecycle. And thirteen times, I have completed the ride knowing I did the right thing.
