Seventeen times, I have cycled 575 miles (from San Francisco to Los Angeles) in a bike ride event that began as California AIDS Ride and is now titled AIDS/Lifecycle . And seventeen times, I have completed the ride knowing I did the right thing. Oprah Winfrey Network Invitation

Oprah Winfrey Network.

15 times, I have cycled 7 days, 575 miles, from San Francisco to Los Angeles in a cycling charity event called AIDSLifecycle. In route to Los Angeles, I (and 2,000 of my best friends) cycle thru Montecito - the home to Oprah Winfrey.

Each Year, the locals of Montecito gather and create their own "Paradise Pit Stop" for the approx. 2,000 AIDSLifecycle Cyclist & 400 Volunteer Crew members. There you can find: chocolate bars, strawberries, homemade ice cream, vegan treats, corn dogs, Twinkies, coco cola, massages, and then some.. ... ALL YOU CAN EAT ...GRATIS!

Years ago (as I ate my strawberries and homemade ice cream), I asked several Montecito residents: "Where is the Oprah Winfrey Network?"

Over the past few days, riders made it over 140 miles to Lompoc, CA.

Today was red dress day where riders dressed up in their best (or

worst) red dress while riding today. It was amazing seeing all the

creative interpretations of "red dress" including cheerleadesr,

tutu's, and high heels; and those were just the guys.:)

Riders continue to ride, we roadies continue to setup and tear down,

and we continue hear stories of how the money we've raised helps

provides services to those living with HIV and AIDS.

Not only does the ride provide services to clients, but also helps

riders. Two nights ago we heard about "The chicken lady," a 70 year

old rider I've seen every day whose bike is decorated with various

rubber chickens and wears crazy costumes. "The chicken lady" actually

used biking and the ride to recover from a stroke. He now has

drastically improved muscle memory from biking and has been doing the

ride for years.

There was also a less than happy story of a first year rider who had a

horrible down hill crash on the first day and still remains in

intensive care. Our thoughts are with him for a full recovery.

Everyday though we hear stories of lives saved through our efforts.

Thanks again for your support.

Every time you state what you want or believe, you’re the first to hear it. It’s a message to both you and others about what you think is possible. Don’t put a ceiling on yourself.” - Oprah Winfrey -
