El municipi està situat a uns vuitanta-set quilòmetres de València, a la comarca dels Serrans, al Nord-oest de la Província de València i en el límit amb Aragó ja que pel nord limita amb Terol. El terme municipal d'Alpuente té una extensió de 138 quilòmetres quadrats, el que el situa en el grup dels municipis valencians més extensos.
Històricament la vila d'Alpont ha tingut un important paper, el que es mostra patent en l'abundant llegat històric existent al municipi. Existeixen abundants mostres de poblament antic d'aquest territori, de l'Edat de Bronze, d'època Ibèrica (per exemple a Los Castillejos, zona propera al llogaret de Cuevarruz) o de la Romanització, però va ser en època musulmana quan Alpuente va adquirir una gran rellevància . Alpuente constituïa una àrea de gran valor estratègic ja que pel nord del terme discorria el Camí ral de València a Aragó ia Castella i Lleó i al sud confluïen diverses rutes secundàries entre terres veïnes.
En relació amb aquests itineraris i amb el valor del territori el més decisiu va ser l'existència d'un punt amb notable aptitud defensiva per aixecar un castell pràcticament inexpugnable i des d'on visualment es divisa una extensa àrea com és Alpuente. En època musulmana el castell de Alpuente presidia la vila emmurallada existent al seu costat i controlava una extensa àrea amb el suport del Castell del Poyo, fortalesa que dominava el Camí ral d'Aragó. Com a conseqüència de tot això i mostra de la seva importància durant la crisi de l'Estat que es va produir al segle XI Alpuente va ser capital d'un regne taifa que pel que sembla s'estenia per tota La Serrania i el Racó d'Ademús. Aquesta Taifa va sorgir en desmembrar el Califat cordovès. En aquest període Alpuente florir econòmica i culturalment, arribant a tenir vida pròpia i això li va permetre encunyar la seva pròpia moneda.
Després de la conquesta cristiana Jaume I (1236) es va reservar per al patrimoni real l'altiplà de la Serrania Alta, valuós territori d'importància estratègica acrescuda per ser la frontera amb Aragó i Castella. La vila real de Alpuente centralitzava el Terme General d'Alpuente, amb una extensió territorial de 365 quilòmetres quadrats. La conflictivitat amb el regne de Castella es manifestà en contínues agressions per ambdues parts i va donar lloc al manteniment i consolidació dels dos castells: Alpuente i El Poyo, que van tenir un important paper al llarg del període. Alpuente va ser vila reial amb vot a corts, una activa població que va arribar a acollir en diverses ocasions a les Corts Valencianes.
Posteriorment el seu caràcter perifèric respecte a les àrees més dinàmiques i la disminució del caràcter estratègic de la frontera, la van relegar a un segon pla en relació amb noves poblacions de major auge demogràfic i econòmic. Tot i això conjunturalment va tornar a adquirir protagonisme durant les Guerres Carlines del segle XIX quan els carlins van assentar aquí el reducte central de les comarques centrals valencianes i en les dues ocasions van convertir al municipi en punt final de resistència que va culminar amb la destrucció a la primera i en la tercera d'aquestes guerres dels castells de Alpuente i El Poyo. Amb posterioritat, com a àrea perifèrica i d'economia agrària poc competitiva es va produir una crisi que s'ha manifestat amb intensitat durant el segle XX i una de les conseqüències, la més evident, ha estat la despoblació del municipi.
Fruit del seu passat històric és l'existència d'un extens patrimoni cultural de gran valor i diversitat en el que constitueix un bé de tots els alpontinos i un recurs municipal.

Históricamente la villa de Alpuente ha desempeñado un importante papel, lo que se muestra patente en el abundante legado histórico existente en el municipio. Existen abundantes muestras de poblamiento antiguo de este territorio, de la Edad de Bronce, de época Ibérica ( por ejemplo en Los Castillejos, zona cercana a la aldea de Cuevarruz) o de la Romanización; pero fue en época musulmana cuando Alpuente adquirió una gran relevancia.Alpuente constituía un área de gran valor estratégico puesto que por el norte del término discurría el Camino Real de Valencia a Aragón y a Castilla y León y al sur confluían diversas rutas secundarias entre tierras vecinas.
En relación con estos itinerarios y con el valor del territorio lo más decisivo fue la existencia de un punto con notable aptitud defensiva para levantar un castillo prácticamente inexpugnable y desde donde visualmente se divisa una extensa área como es Alpuente. En época musulmana el castillo de Alpuente presidía la villa amurallada existente junto a él y controlaba una extensa área con el apoyo del Castillo del Poyo, fortaleza que dominaba el Camino Real de Aragón. Como consecuencia de todo ello y muestra de su importancia durante la crisis del Estado que se produjo en el siglo XI Alpuente fue capital de un reino taifa que al parecer se extendía por toda La Serranía y el Rincón de Ademuz. Esta Taifa surgió al desmembrarse el Califato cordobés. En este periodo Alpuente floreció económica y culturalmente, llegando a tener vida propia y eso le permitió acuñar su propia moneda.
Tras la conquista cristiana Jaime I (1236) se reservó para el patrimonio real el altiplano de la Serranía Alta, valioso territorio de importancia estratégica acrecentada por ser la frontera con Aragón y Castilla. La villa real de Alpuente centralizaba el Término General de Alpuente, con una extensión territorial de 365 kilómetros cuadrados. La conflictividad con el reino de Castilla se manifiestó en continuas agresiones por ambas partes y dio lugar al mantenimiento y consolidación de los dos castillos: Alpuente y El Poyo, que desempeñaron un importante papel a lo largo del periodo. Alpuente fue villa real con voto en cortes, una activa población que llegó a acoger en varias ocasiones a las Cortes Valencianas.
Posteriormente su carácter periférico respecto a las áreas más dinámicas y la disminución del carácter estratégico de la frontera, la relegaron a un segundo plano en relación con nuevas poblaciones de mayor auge demográfico y económico. Pese a ello coyunturalmente volvió a adquirir protagonismo durante las Guerras Carlistas del siglo XIX cuando los carlistas asentaron aquí el reducto central de las comarcas centrales valencianas y en las dos ocasiones convirtieron al municipio en punto final de resistencia que culminó con la destrucción en la primera y en la tercera de dichas guerras de los castillos de Alpuente y El Poyo. Con posterioridad, como área periférica y de economía agraria poco competitiva se produjo una crisis que se ha manifestado con intensidad durante el siglo XX y una de cuyas consecuencias, la más evidente, ha sido la despoblación del municipio.
Fruto de su pasado histórico es la existencia de un extenso patrimonio cultural de gran valor y diversidad en lo que constituye un bien de todos los alpontinos y un recurso municipal.

A search on internet gave a host of information about agression of moorhen parents, both against their own chicks as to any other animal (a.o. a hedghog! ) coming near the nest or a chick. Basically, it seems all to be related to the amount of food available. If scarce, parents may even be killing their own chicks. However, unprovoked agression against other birds is amply documented.
In breeding season the moorhen becomes
A ruthless murderer to any other life,
Unprovoked, just to safeguard
That its chicks survive.

Aucun membre du groupe ne se glisse entre eux. La mère risque sa vie pour protéger son petit contre les agressions des requins, des orques ou des chasseurs. À l'inverse des dauphins, les autres membres du groupe ne participent pas à l'éducation et ne prennent pas en charge les éventuels orphelins. En cas d'attaque, le seul mâle du groupe, le premier escorteur, se mettra entre l'assaillant et le petit, qui sera ainsi encadré par deux adultes.
Ce que vous voyez sur sa peau sont les balanes, avec leur coque blanche. D'un diamètre de 6 cm, ils se fixent surtout au niveau du menton, de la tête et des nageoires pectorales. Ce sont des organismes commensaux. Ils se nourrissent eux aussi de plancton qu'ils filtrent. Étant aux premières loges lorsque la baleine ouvre la bouche sur un banc de plancton, les balanes profitent de ce qu'elle ne mange pas.

What you see on his skin are barnacles, with their white hull. With a diameter of 6 cm, they set above the chin, head and pectoral fins. These are commensal organisms. They eat also plankton they filter. Being in the front row when the whale opens its mouth on a bank of plankton, barnacles benefit from what it does not eat.

Castel dell'Ovo (in Italian, Egg Castle) is a castle located on the former island of Megaride, now a peninsula, on the gulf of Naples (Southern Italy). The castle's name comes from a medieval legend which tells that the Roman poet Virgil, who developed a medieval reputation as a great sorcerer as well, put a magical egg in the foundations to support them.
The island of Megaride was where Greek colonists from Cumae founded the original nucleus of the city in the sixth century BC. Its location affords it an excellent view of the Naples waterfront and the surrounding area. In the first century BC the Roman patrician Lucius Licinius Lucullus built the magnificent villa Castellum Lucullanum on the site. Fortified by Valentinian III in the mid-fifth century, it was the place to which the last western Roman emperor, Romulus Augustulus, was exiled in in 476. Eugippius founded a monastery on the site after 492.
The remains of the Roman-era structures and later fortifications were demolished by local residents in the ninth century to prevent their use by Saracen raiders. The first castle on the site was built by the Normans in the 12th century. The importance of the Castel dell'Ovo began to decline when king Charles I of Anjou built a new castle, Castel Nuovo, and moved his court there. Castel dell'Ovo became the seat of the Royal Chamber and of the State Treasury. The current appearance dates from the Aragonese domination (15th century). It was struck by French and Spanish artillery during the Italian Wars; in the Neapolitan Republic of 1799 its guns were used by rebels to deter the philo-Bourbon population of the city.
In the 1800s a small fishing village (Borgo Marinari) developed around the castle's eastern wall. This village remains, now known for its marina and restaurants.
The castle is connected by a causeway that is a popular place for newlyweds to have their wedding photos taken. The causeway is over 100 metres long. The castle is rectangular in shape (approximately 200 by 45 metres at its widest) and has a high angular bastion overlooking the causeway. Inside the walls are several buildings that are often used for exhibitions and other special events. Behind the castle is a long promontory which was probably used as a docking area. A large round tower stands outside the castle walls to the southeast.

Le Château de l'Œuf (Castrum Ovi, en latin), est le plus ancien château de Naples, indissociable de l'histoire de sa fondation par un peuple d'origine grecque, abordant l'îlot de Partenope et où ils ont construit un système défensif au VIIe siècle av. J.-C. L'édifice est situé sur une petite île, la Mégaride, où les colons de Cumes fondèrent le noyau originel de la ville. Au Ier siècle av. J.-C. L'importance du Castel dell'Ovo a commencé à décliner lorsque le roi Charles Ier de Sicile construisit un nouveau château, Castel Nuovo (Nouveau château), et y a déménagé sa cour. Il a été l'objet de nombreux remaniements et le Castel dell'Ovo est devenu le siège de la Chambre Royale et du Trésor public. C'est Pierre Ier d'Aragon qui lui donne son architecture actuelle, avec les tours cylindriques et défensives et son chemin de ronde (XVe siècle). Il a été pilonné par l'artillerie française et espagnole au cours des Guerres d'Italie. Pendant la République napolitaine de 1799, ses canons ont été utilisés par les rebelles afin de décourager la population favorable aux Bourbons.
Au cours du XIXe siècle un petit village de pêcheurs (Borgo Marinari) a vu le jour le long du mur sud du château. Ce village toujours présent est maintenant plus connu pour son port de plaisance et par ses restaurants.
Le nom du château découle d'une légende médiévale rapportée par le poète Virgile. Un sorcier aurait déposé un œuf magique sous les fondations du château afin de soutenir l'ensemble. Si cet œuf disparaissait, la forteresse s'effondrerait, entraînant la ruine de Naples. C'est ainsi que la reine Jeanne Ire de Naples a été soupçonnée d'avoir fait disparaître l'œuf et d'avoir amené tous les maux sur la ville.
Le château est construit en front de mer. L'îlot est rattaché au continent par un minuscule chemin en rochers battu par les flots du port qui est l'endroit préféré par les nouveaux mariés pour réaliser les photographies de leur mariage. La chaussée fait plus de 100 mètres de long. Le château est de forme rectangulaire (environ 200 mètres par 45 mètres à son endroit le plus large) et possède un bastion angulaire qui domine la chaussée. À l'intérieur des murs on trouve plusieurs bâtiments qui sont souvent utilisés pour les expositions et autres événements spéciaux. Derrière le château se trouve un long promontoire qui a probablement été utilisé comme une zone d'amarrage. Au sud-est, une grande tour ronde se trouve à l'extérieur des murs du château.

If anybody has ever observed such happenings, I would be happy to hear about it. I have seen how parent moorhens chase their chicks, or even kill them, when food is scarce for all their sibling chicks. But here this can hardly be an explanation.

A lesson in Israeli Math:
For the past two weeks Israel has also been bombing Gaza from sea, land and air, 60 civilians were killed among which a family of 9 including the parents and the children. All of this was in response to the capture of 1 israeli solider.
Israel has done the same in Lebanon yesterday, the outcome of the first day of combat is 50 civilians killed among which an entire family of 12, add to that lots of infrastructure bombed: 3 airports, an electricity plant, countless bridges etc. That was -of course- as Israel would put it, a legitimate response to Hizbollah's capture of 2 Israeli soliders, after earlier clashes at the border... Now it’s almost a full-scale war, with Hizbollah continuously retaliating on northern Israel while the Israeli military machine executes an air-sea-land blockade and hits deep targets in Lebanon all the way up to the southern suburb of Beirut and the north of Baalbeck.
Moral of the story
Moral of the story as Israel would like the world in general and the arabs to understand:
-An eye for an eye raised by 2 orders of magnitude= For 1 Israeli eye, 50-100 arab eyes + 10 bridges + 3 airports are required in exchange
-We Israelis are dangerous don't step on our toes, don’t even come close to our toes… Hell don’t think of dreaming of having your shadow step on our toes!!! (Capisce!)
-We're strong (with a roar)
-We’re lethal and we mean it

Unfortunate fact
It is unfortunate that civilians have to die anywhere even in Israel. Almost all Israelis have immigrated there based on Zonist scheming propaganda (apart from the minority real refugees in WW2); the all encompassing Zionist machine continuously inviting jews all the way from the US to Yemen to Russia to Ethiopia etc... to immigrate to the promised land… of opportunity... and security… and hard work... asking them romantically and so innocently to come and plant trees and let the desert blossom and reap the milk and the honey (although that last part from the Bible is used for describing Lebanon)… The vast majority of Israelis even those in the army are like most people all around the world: Decent human beings looking for opportunity to have a good life and build a future for their children. Israel lures them into the trap, corners them, brainwashes the living daylights out of them and turns them into soldiers or more accurately into the fuel that foolish dreams (more like nightmares) are made of!
Palestinians are not imaginary creatures and the negotiation theory is not only about ball-busting!
Under the alibi of self-defense, Israel continues to turn its back to the miseries and injustice it created and continues to do towards the Palestinians. Israel wishes Palestinians didn’t exist because that could solve all the problems! YET THEY DO! And until Israeli politics finds a way to fix the injustice by making real peace building concessions that it can stick to -instead of the ‘negotiatory’ acrobatics it is so proficient in doing- all this madness is going to perpetuate itself!

Le "Hollow Butt" est un grand et spectaculaire "karri" qui a été brûlé à la base et a subi de nombreuses autres agressions de la nature, mais qui est toujours vivant.
The Hollow Butt is a spectacular large karri Tree which has been burnt out at the base by fire and suffered many other assaults of nature but it is still living.
The Dagger and the Fan... I always wonder if there is a connection.. The connection between aggression and subtleness... the connection between cruelty and peace. And sometimes I wonder if it symbolizes a war being waged...
Every war was fought for a reason... the war between good and bad, the war between the mightiest and the weakest..
There is a bigger war being fought in each of our minds though.. the war with oneself for peace, the war with oneself for self discovery, the war with oneself to judge wrongs over right... Wish we had an answer..Wish we had a solution to this never ending war... Death to some is an answer, but isnt it the end result of all wars??? and if we really had to die, why dont we let the bad thoughts within ourselves perish instead of us?
