The irruption of Purple Finches in the northeast continues. Like all finches, they seem to squabble quite a bit although no harm is done. Sometimes the little arguments break out for no apparent reason, as in this case. Who knows, maybe he just didn't like the way the other finch was looking at him...

These two had been mating through the night (and were noisy about it). I could hear them all through the night.
If you look closely, you can see one Fulmar is pinned underwater by the aggressor. I wonder why he was so ticked off.

En ces temps de canicule, les mouches sont particulièrement agressives et virevoltent sans cesse autour des bovins qui semblent rester placides sous cette agression permanente.
The Red-Winged Blackbirds -- particularly the females -- guarded their nests fiercely. Even after the floods washed the nests away, the Red-Wings protected their territories most agressively.
On this particular afternoon in July, this female was even more than usually robust in her agression. She buzzed me for probably ten minutes, flying VERY close to me. Never touched me, but on several of her passes I could feel the wind as she blew by.
Looks like he's shouting "wait for me" but in reality this Grey Partridge was chasing after another male intuder. The clash was taking place behind the car so no captures of unfortunately.....

AK 2017: Katmai N.P. and Preserve. We flew to Mirror Lake from Lake Clark then trekked along Funnel Creek where we spent the day watching and photographing the brown bears. This confrontation was interesting (it happened twice while we were there). The light colored bear caught the sockeye salmon. The more aggressive darker bear came over to check it out and managed to steal it away after a scrimmage. The lighter colored bear looked like s/he was well fed, so this behaviour probably didn't happen too often. (Tight crop)
Rock Ptarmigan( commonly called Partridge) are hardy members of the grouse family that spend most of their lives at or above the treeline. Shot (photographed) these late this afternoon. Notice the red eye comb in the male. It can be exposed or retracted and is used to show agression or for courtship...most likely exposed here to show agression since I'm sort of invading his personal space. It looks like the female has started to moult or shed its old feathers, which starts with the head and progresses towards the tail.
Rock Ptarmigan prefer higher elevations and more barren habitat. To better appreciate where these were located, please see the next photograph.
Vic is a girl.
It was 2005, september. We have decided we are going to have only four cats, altough he have fallen in love for Petite, a tuxedo girl I have rescued by july. Petite was a very sweet girl, full of love. Toji and Chihiro got really jealous about her, and bully her, and she was afraid to get next to me, because they would beat her if she did so. She deserved to be the queen of a house, so we decided to give her for adoption, for her own good. We tought it was going to be difficult, because she's a tuxedo (very common in Brazil) and was not a baby anymore, but two weeks after she was announced on a website, she was adopted for a wonderful family.
Two days after Petite was adopted, I was going to feed the cats of my street, as usual, and noticed a different tuxedo there... she was very very sick, couldn't eat properly beacuse her noise was so bad the she had to breath by her mouth, and she couldn't breath while she was eating...
So, I got a dirty laundry basket, because our tranport cage was with Petite new humans, and went to the rescue. It was pretty dificult because she was not trusting me , but with a little patience I finally grabbed her.
She was very sick, cryed all the time. I took her to the vet of my cats in the same night, and she got some medicine...
In the other night, I took her to the house of a friend who agreed to take care of her. And so he did for one month, when he asked me if I could get her back. She was so afraid of everything, that during the whole month we wasn't able to get closer to her.
So Vic came back home, and started to live in the kitchen. She was afraid of everything, and at night she used to cry a lot, for lonelyness, pain, or both. By the time she got healthy she was still afraid of everything and decided that under my bed was a good place to live.
With lots of love and care, she started to trust us... but she was still afraid of other cats, which gradually she started to get confortable with their presence. She is afraid of Goku, who use to bully her, I don't know if he wants to play with her or show who is teh boss. She doesn't have a best friend, doesn't sleep with others or lick them... She took lots of floral bach medicine in all the process, and it worked really well with her.
With us, however, she is a real doll... very sweet, loves to be peted, loves to be brushed, loves, loves loves. Very sweet and shy, agression = zero. Purrs a lot, and when she is very happy, she drols a little. When I get home from work, she and Lua do the same ritual: show their bellys and their necks, I don't know who I pet before!
Vic only eats her dry food, she doesn't like other treats.
I love her so much and I'm very happy she's getting happier!

This young buck rubs on some small plants as part of its pre-rut rubbing. Thought to be a way for them to increase neck and shoulder muscles, temper some agression from rising testosterone levels and to mark their area visually and through scent glands in the forehead.

- Do you ever feel amotivational agression?
- Hmmm, but why amotivational?

This beautiful white mare put on quite a show of aggression, rivalry or playfulness for us. She was amazing to watch. It makes me wonder what the black mare did to provoke her .......
I was drawing in my home studio when it happened. A pigeon dived on our balcony followed by a crow. The crow injured him in air and prepared to kill in one meter from me. I scared it away. A pigeon was so stressed, that was not moving for a while. I gave it food after it recovered and noticed it can not control it's moves. His head went up and down in a try to catch a seed, but it was disco-ordinated. The back of a brain was damaged heavily.
I watched it for some time then gave a deep plate full of millet and another one with water. It was terrified seeing me coming, but ate quite well after I left. Our balcony is open for crows unfortunately, I spent a day close to prevent further agression, but it won't last forever. My hope is it will eat well, relax during the night and somehow come back to normal (brain damage is a serious thing and my hope is weak). The pigeon tried to fly several times, but could not do it out to the street. I won't help it with that since the bird is still too weak to face the difficulty of self-sufficiency. Maybe I will add a stick for a perch and some loose yet strong net not to worry about predators.
Apprentissage de la vie à la dure
1- J'ai d'abord cru à une agression de la mère envers ce poussin quand sa tête a complètement disparu dans les les plumes du petit. Les photos suivantes expliquent la cause
Learning the hard way
1- I initially believed that the mother was assaulting this chick when its head completely disappeared into the little one’s feathers. The following pictures explain the reason.
A seal colony is not a quiet and peaceful place despite it being a nursery as well.
Disputes are breaking out all over and patience is fragile as you can see I hope from these images. Cows, bulls and pups are all caught up in the stress and tension.
After several minutes of fighting, the Grackles backed off and just flew away.

This bull moose looks ready to charge...but he took two steps and then stopped. Though I was pretty close to him, I was in a well protected position so not threatened. Taken in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.
