in the year 894 that was buried with the first known eruption from the volcano Katla, the settlers from nearby started to built this mounds of lava rocks as memories and to bring them luck maybe afraid to share the same fate of their neighbors. The tradition says that if it's the first time you pass by you have to add a stone to be blessed with good luck. The mounds are known as Laufskalavarða and some of them have my rock on the top :P . Now the authorities bring lots of rocks there to keep going with the tradition.
En el año 894, la primera erupción conocida del volcan Katla sepultó una gran granja aqui ubicada y los lugareños empezaron a levantar monticulos de piedras de lava en su lugar recordando lo acontecido y con fin de atraer la buena suerte. La tradición dice que cada viajero que pase por primera vez por el lugar debe añadir una piedra en lo alto de un monticulo para ser bendecido con la buena suerte. Los monticulos son conocidos como Laufskalavarða y yo no puse una, sino diez para acaparar la buena suerte de los demas.
