hand tinted - Blue Series of Washington DC Subway - 2002
Taken in the summer of 2002 in the Washington DC metro.
It was clear that most of the people showing at the festival have a tremendous affection for and pride in their animals.
[Unfortunately I had a very slow shutter speed for some reason so it's a bit blurry. The metadata says I was in Tv mode which I rarely use and certainly not for a shot like this. So maybe the dial got bumped accidently. Too bad, I really like the shot otherwise. ]
Every table had one of these special frames on it. Then there was a larger frame, used as a key, for place settings. So creative! I sat at the 'Fondness Table' :]

Enchantment.
Ardor.
Cherish.
Embrace.
Fondness.
Tenderness.
Affection.
& Yearning.
This is a Haleakala sunrise, at 5:38 a.m.
Through this little excursion, I discovered two things:
1) Sunrises are a daily occurrence, but a once-in-a-lifetime sort of thing to experience.
2) I am not a morning person.
Upon seeing this photo again, and the sun and moon present there, it reminded me of a bit of The Notebook that I'd read today:
"Dusk, I realized then, is just an illusion, because the sun is either above the horizon or below it. And that means that day and night are linked in a way that few things are; there cannot be one without the other, yet they cannot exist at the same time. How would it feel, I remember wondering, to be always together, yet forever apart?"
This is a copy of one of the deed transfers, back in the 1890s. Of special interest is the consideration: $1 and "the love and affection which the party of the first part bears for the party of the second part."
Le choucas affectionne les points surélevés d'où ils dominent le paysage : falaises, carrières, clochers, tours, ruines, châteaux, allées de grands arbres, forêts. Outre la raison qu'ils représentent d'excellents observatoires, ces lieux ont en commun le fait qu'ils abondent en trous, en fentes, en crevasses et excavations qui sont les endroits que le choucas privilégie pour la nidification. Toutefois, ses lieux de nourrissage se situent dans les prairies et les champs. On le retrouve en plaine et dans les montagnes jusqu'à 1200 mètres d'altitude.
C'est un oiseau sociable, vif et bruyant. Il lance des cris aigus très différents des autres corvidés. Il niche généralement en petites colonies. En hiver, il accompagne les freux et les corneilles noires dans les champs dans leur quête de nourriture. Le soir, plusieurs centaines de choucas peuvent se rassembler en dortoirs pour passer la nuit dans les grands arbres. Il est migrateur partiel en Europe.
Les Choucas des tours couples sont unis pour la vie et ils sont presque toujours réunis. Il est grégaire et recherche sa nourriture en groupe. Les choucas des tours se rassemblent, notamment en automne, le soir formant de grandes bandes pour passer la nuit dans des bosquets ou dans les parcs des villes.

Rather horrible, squishy-squashy lettering from the early 20c, in St Augustine's church, Norwich if I remember correctly.
All this set of Norwich pics were taken with a new camera, Nikon coolpix P60, which I'm trying out - not with my usual Pentax DSLR. Oh dear, I really did miss my Pentax... using a compact takes away so many options. And it was a grey day, too; not the best. Still, a few nice images managed to make their way on to the sensor, I think.
The golden opportunity for trying out the camera was the heritage open weekend - a chance to get into churches and clubs, private houses and back gardens...
