ADAD 278: 10/5/15 Affection

A moment of relaxing together.

 

Gannets show their affection by touching and rubbing their heads toggether and at the same time clattering their beaks together. Especially one or the other returns aftera fishing trip. So much we humans can learn from wild life and nature.

Receiving a brief scratch from my dad while he licks his thumb, haha.

Habitat : La sittelle torchepot affectionne les bois de haute futaie, feuillus, mixtes et résineux. Mais on la rencontre aussi en abondance dans les parcs et les grands jardins.

 

Comportements : La sittelle torchepot est capable de parcourir les troncs d'arbres et les branches dans un sens ou dans l'autre, même avec la tête en bas. Elle bouge obliquement, se suspendant grâce à la patte supérieure, et se propulsant avec l'autre. Elle n'utilise pas la queue comme les pics, mais ses longues griffes.

Pour se nourrir d'un gland ou d'une noisette, elle l'emporte sur une branche où elle la cale dans une crevasse de l'écorce, et elle la taillade pour l'ouvrir avec de vigoureux et bruyants coups de bec. Elle fréquente aussi les mangeoires où elle se montre très agressive, chassant les autres oiseaux. Elle est très active et agile. Elle sautille rapidement sur le sol.

Elle est souvent vue en couples ou seule. Elle dort dans un trou d'arbre ou de rocher.

La parade nuptiale démarre début mars.

Ironically, this horse is on a Mohawk Indian farm. (No, not where they grow Indians, OWNED by Mohawks.)

This beautiful charming couple of white cheeked gibbons are a bonded pair.

The male is the B&W on the left, and the female on the right.

This grooming and massage went on for a while.
