an intimate relationship between two person shown publicly.

One of my vintage photos found at a flea market inspired this piece. A portion of the photo is combined with text from a 1940's dictionary and set with resin in a copper bezel. The bezel base is a piece of brass that I milled with a leaf. Riveted to the bottom of the pendant base is a portion of a brass box that I cut apart. The chain is attached with wire wrapped recycled beads and is highlighted with wire wrapped freshwater pearls.

Some of the steps are illustrated on my blog CynthiaMurrayDesign.blogspot.com

Usually Taj and Kita tussle for occupancy of this chair when the sun is on it. But yesterday I found them together there and Kita was washing Taj's ear!

Taj has been here two weeks exactly and Kita 5 weeks. They have come so so far.

I AM going to write the new year catch-up report about the two of them today. Please check in after a couple of hours.

Back home from a wonderful trip with a "TON" of new images to process. Thought I'd put up one from just before I left to get something fresh up here - it's been a while. These two lovely ladies are the female lions at the Cleveland Metro Park Zoo in Cleveland, Ohio (USA).

An intimate moment of bonding.

4.2-Elderly couple

Everyone is valuable and interesting in their own way. The variety of humanity is what makes us unique amongst animals, even the mundane is special and good in our society. Whether it is the Affectionate Grandma on the train telling you all about how her grandchildren are growing up so fast or the lonely old man who just wants a friend to listen to his old stories of the railways, these people all still serve a valuable purpose in holding life together. Of course, as these people head off towards the sunset years of their life, having already made their contribution in one sense are now able to concentrate on the things that really matter to them, be they families, hobbies or appreciating the finer parts of life a bit more.

I met these two for a Sunday dinner in order to talk over their experiences. They are two very interesting people, becoming rarer and rarer treasures as their peers die out. Michael was a Lancaster Bomber Pilot during the Second World War. His proudest mission was over Monte Casino. This miserable, muddy and prolonged battle was only ended when the whole mountain was obliterated by saturation bombing. That wasn’t what he was proud of though, that was the American’s mission after all. He was tasked with targeting allied troops in the vicinity. This may sound unusual, but when your bomb bays are loaded with supply canisters stuffed with socks, it’s exactly what’s needed. Apparently, most of them reached the Poles, which was no bad thing at all.

She worked in a slightly different field of war. Station X, more commonly known as Bletchley Park was the major code-breaking centre in the United Kingdom during the war years. This was where the infamous Enigma Code was cracked by a British team working with one of the most powerful computers in the world. She worked here in a secretarial role (as a woman, she couldn’t do the ‘real’ work of course, the result of the social constraints of the era). Living in such a tense part of history, where literally everything hung in the balance must have been terrifying, but how relieving it must have been to be in the thick of the espionage counter-strike, knowing the skill that was at hand to crush the enemy.

A whitetail doe pauses in the early light of the Oklahoma Cross Timbers. She is on alert, watching the approach of a small six-point buck. But he will be moved off by a much bigger eleven-point. The doe fled with the buck in hot pursuit. It's that time of year.

Unnatural Affections

One Pride Day in Toronto, I noticed a guy taking a million pictures of all the scandalous perverts, but pulling faces to clearly communicate his disapproval. Of course I had to photograph his performance. The moment he noticed, he rushed up and demanded I stop. I dedicate this to him and hope he found some kind of redemption in his collection of dirty, dirty pictures.

So, for your consideration, a set of illustrations taken from an encyclopaedic catalogue of human sexual diversity, chosen to poke at the way we run together moralizing with evidence-based medicine to produce ideas about what's healthy and what's criminal. Experts dissect and evaluate and problematize, religions vilify - and tourists walk around with cameras taking pictures and going EWWWWW!

This series is showing at garner narrative gallery www.garnernarrative.com in Louisville, KY, opening Friday April 6 (6-9 pm) and running through May 25, 2018.

This was originally shot on film in 2000. Sadly, the original negative has been lost. All that remains is a low resolution digital file.
