I love really be able to see the amazing colors of the Green Heron! These youngsters will be gone soon, but I have enjoyed every moment I have been able to spend watching them!
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning

Unnatural Affections
One Pride Day in Toronto, I noticed a guy taking a million pictures of all the scandalous perverts, but pulling faces to clearly communicate his disapproval. Of course I had to photograph his performance. The moment he noticed, he rushed up and demanded I stop. I dedicate this to him and hope he found some kind of redemption in his collection of dirty, dirty pictures.
So, for your consideration, a set of illustrations taken from an encyclopaedic catalogue of human sexual diversity, chosen to poke at the way we run together moralizing with evidence-based medicine to produce ideas about what's healthy and what's criminal. Experts dissect and evaluate and problematize, religions vilify - and tourists walk around with cameras taking pictures and going EWWWWW!

What's so pathological about them? - Why interpretations off course!
I love the eerie "melting" sensation of a bustling metropolitan in it's utmost mayhem. It's like you are high, but without being intoxicated on meth, alcohol or psychedelic rock. Old Dhaka and it's convoluted streets can have that strange effect on you...as if the boundaries all around are closing in. Sort of like "Chaos Theory", with lots of chaos, but little or no theoretical implications.

Taken in Shakhari Bazaar, Old Dhaka. A father/kidnapper is seen storming through the narrow alleyway clinching onto his daughter's/ransom's hands.

I love photographing horses, not the easiest to do, there are standards, but with the help of the breeders it usually becomes a very pleasant and exciting experience.
Here was a fortuitous moment, and as a photographer, yes you have to focus on the main subject and there is MUCH to think about and concentrate on, but as a creative you stay aware of what is going on around you, and these 'off' images often become my favourite shots...
One of the horses I had photographed was taken back, so this was one of those 'in-between' moments...
This is the mother in the family that breeds horses, tough and yet rewarding.
They witness the birth and tend to the foals with love and yet when they lose one, they are quite stoic about it...
Another, slightly older foal quickly came for it's share of affection. No matter human or animal, we all enjoy love!
Such tenderness, closeness, emotion, just HAD to be captured.

Hindu Marriage Poem

Loyalty, affection, intelligence, work ethic, and good looks: Boxers are the whole doggy package. Bright and alert, sometimes silly, but always courageous, the Boxer has been among America's most popular dog breeds for a very long time. A well-made Boxer in peak condition is an awesome sight.
I photographed this juvenile Red-tailed Hawk (affectionally known as "D3") at Cornell University. We followed and chronicled the lives of this juvenile along with it's siblings this past spring/summer. This bird was just learning to hunt, so both the squirrel and the hawk were a bit unaffected by each other's presence. I post this picture in memory of D3; during a heart-breaking turn of events…this bird perished in a ferocious storm that hit Central New York in mid-August 2013.

Tristan Taormino autographed a condom for me, as well as a copy of one of her books, Down and Dirty Sex Secrets when I attended a great talk given by her on Friday night.
She is an award-winning author, editor, columnist, feminist pornographer, and sex educator. Last week was Sexual Health Week on the UW-Madison campus and this was the final event of many.
She had a lot of thoughtful things to say about sexuality. I think most valuable for everyone is her list of "The Keys to Sexual Empowerment":
* KNOWLEDGE (comprehensive sex ed throughout our lives)
* SELF PLEASURE (knowing our bodies, practicing self pleasure)
* PERMISSION (to be sexual, to explore, to discover our own sexual identities)
* PROTECTION (practicing physical and emotional safety in sex)
* COMMUNICATION (talking about our likes/dislikes, our needs, our challenges)
* AUTHENTICITY (being true to ourselves and our sexual desires)
* FULFILMENT & SATISFACTION (seeking and finding pleasure however we define it)
I also must mention here that I attended a recent seminar dinner at the Knapp House for which Madison's own Ellen Barnard of A Woman's Touch gave the evening's talk. She is another engaging and life-affirming speaker on the topic of sexuality.
It was quite a week of sexy talks...and that's why my cheeks are all flush now!
