Take the world as it is! - with its smiles and its sorrow,

Its love and its friendship - its falsehood and truth -

Its schemes that depend on the breath of tomorrow!

Its hopes which pass by like the dreams of our youth -

Yet, oh! whilst the light of affection may shine,

The heart in itself hath a fountain of bliss!

In the worst there's some spark of nature divine,

And the wisest and best take the world as it is.

It was a dark day at the beach and i just wanted to capture some rainy clouds. I met these children, they were playing hide&seek at the beach. We didn't understand each others language but they seemed to like me and did some spontaneous posing. This is the result.

As I sat thinking about whimsical today, I thought "Bunny could wear her sock monkey hat." Bunny informed me that if she was wearing her hat for the picture, then I was going to have to wear mine, too. Since turn about is fair play, I joined her in front of the camera today, although I think she looks much better in front of it than I do!

I had been busy with my Thesis recently, and now finally its all over. I have finally graduated and an Architect now! :D

Unnatural Affections

One Pride Day in Toronto, I noticed a guy taking a million pictures of all the scandalous perverts, but pulling faces to clearly communicate his disapproval. Of course I had to photograph his performance. The moment he noticed, he rushed up and demanded I stop. I dedicate this to him and hope he found some kind of redemption in his collection of dirty, dirty pictures.

So, for your consideration, a set of illustrations taken from an encyclopaedic catalogue of human sexual diversity, chosen to poke at the way we run together moralizing with evidence-based medicine to produce ideas about what's healthy and what's criminal. Experts dissect and evaluate and problematize, religions vilify - and tourists walk around with cameras taking pictures and going EWWWWW!

Hunger: Do You Know The Facts?

It is estimated that one billion people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. That's roughly 100 times as many as those who actually die from these causes each year.

About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger-related causes. This is down from 35,000 ten years ago, and 41,000 twenty years ago. Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five.

Famine and wars cause about 10% of hunger deaths, although these tend to be the ones you hear about most often. The majority of hunger deaths are caused by chronic malnutrition. Families facing extreme poverty are simply unable to get enough food to eat.

Love for pets and animals is a heavenly thing. That love makes the world beautiful.

Much love for your weekend :-)

This image was taken in response to a challenge set for me by my partner for Round 16 of the Get Pushed group.

Snoospix [who has a wonderfully varied and arty stream which is well worth a visit www.flickr.com/photos/64901295@N05 ] kind of apologised for setting such a lame challenge [her words not mine] but actually she couldn't have been further from the truth. Her challenge was to pick an emotion that I had been particularly feeling of late and other than stipulating that I could not be a part of the shot, the subject matter and how I created the image was left entirely up to me.

Okay for those of you who don't have the time or inclination to read the rest of the fairly lengthy story behind the shot please feel free to go straight to the comment box to tell me how great the shot is and you can even fave it....LOL

Aha, so you do want to know the rest of the story then............. :>)

As some of you will already know my wife recently [6 months ago] embarked on a new career having retired from the somewhat stressful work of social care. She was looking for something that she would enjoy doing, something that she hadn't done before and something where she could set the boundaries and guidelines for her work. It was our youngest son [now in his late thirties] who somewhat surprisingly suggested that she might try her hand [& body as it turns out] at life art modelling.

So it was back in July/August of last year that it all began and she has been most successful both with life art and photographic modelling. Considering her lack of experience, for her first ever 'job' she was lucky enough to be selected for a photo shoot with none other than the world renowned photographer, Rankin. [Also televised by one of the UK's terrestrial TV stations but yet to be screened so can't say too much about it.....apparently!!!].

So, why have you been subjected to such a story and what on earth has it got to do with this challenge? Well I'll tell ya!

This new career choice has, perhaps unsurprisingly, left MY emotions in absolute turmoil. Here follows a small selection of them; pride, love, affection, anger, worry, jealousy, envy, resignedness & sadness. There are probably others but I think you'll get the picture.

So, what to do for this unwittingly good challenge without having me showing an emotion in the picture? I thought long and hard about it and in the end came up with the shot above [you can see the whole piece in the comments below] which is a close up of a piece of artwork that we purchased with money given to us by my dear mother some 15 years ago for our 25th wedding anniversary.

Whilst the piece is actually called "Submission", which as it happens could fit one of the emotions in its own right, I choose it because it does show [as it did when we first bought it] the affection, closeness and love that 2 people might share and whilst we had had our share of 'downs' over the years, the 'ups' by far outweighed them. As we approach the next milestone [40 years] of our lives together, the love and affection we share with each other is still very much there and despite how I sometimes feel when I know she is out and about being drawn, painted or photographed by others, I know I have to get over that safe in the knowledge that it is "only a job" and that she will be coming home to me with the same feelings she had when she left. Lucky me, eh?

So there you have it. A great challenge that certainly sucked all the thought out of my brain and for that I thank Snoos. I just hope that I have achieved what she expected when setting the challenge.

Need to go have a snooze now; I'm exhausted!!

Thanks in advance to all who may view, comment upon or even fave this shot and especially those who managed to get to the end of the story!!! The time you took to do that is so very much appreciated. :>)

What's so pathological about them? - Why interpretations off course!

I love the eerie "melting" sensation of a bustling metropolitan in it's utmost mayhem. It's like you are high, but without being intoxicated on meth, alcohol or psychedelic rock. Old Dhaka and it's convoluted streets can have that strange effect on you...as if the boundaries all around are closing in. Sort of like "Chaos Theory", with lots of chaos, but little or no theoretical implications.

Riveting!

Taken in Shakhari Bazaar, Old Dhaka. A father/kidnapper is seen storming through the narrow alleyway clinching onto his daughter's/ransom's hands.
