Heading home to Ladner from Victoria (on Vancouver Island (Canada)) today, there was enough fog that a lookout was posted at the front of the ferry. I spent the first half of the trip with a 180mm lens capturing the wonderful bleakness/richness of the fog. It is the long weekend, so there were a lot of small craft about, livening up our trip.

Hakone: Aerial view from the cable car of Owakudani, the Great Boiling Valley (大涌谷). This place is a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents. The above was actually a sulphur mining area. When the cable car passes the area, the air smells like rotten eggs.
The Ferryland Head Lighthouse at Ferryland, Newfoundland dates to 1870. The light is active but the keeper's house is now used for serving Lighthouse Picnics, which are delicious. Unfortunately the day I was there, the fog was swirling so my photos were not as good as hoped. At Ferryland, Newfoundland.

Starting from Coxhoe Hall and following the track of the former railway line of East Hetton Colliery, Kelloe. The run then passes through the now reclaimed pit yard and over the what was once the pit heap before following the railway line once more back to Coxhoe Hall where the finish is in the grounds of the now demolished Coxhoe Hall.

The main attraction of the Water Gardens is the active pool which has water cascading 38 feet (11 m) down terraces and steps into a small pool at the bottom.

Original gilding and imposing carved lion’s heads on the handrests distinguish this armchair. It is almost identical to a pair of armchairs made by Herter Brothers for the Red Room in the White House in 1875 during Ulysses S. Grant’s administration. The reproduction blue brocade upholstery is based on a description of the chairs listed in a bill for the White House commission.
