More than 65 people attended the Third Annual PHWFF Flyfest held at Harman’s North Fork Cottages in Cabins, W.Va., Dec. 6-8. The event was hosted by the PHWFF Fort Belvoir and PHWFF Quantico Programs and more than 35 Warriors and several family members from seven different PHWFF programs fished 1 ¾ miles of the private access trophy trout stream during the three-day weekend trip.
In attendance during the weekend were Volunteer Guides and Warriors from the two local programs in addition to members from programs in Martinsburg, West Va.; Richmond, Va.; Atlanta, Ga.; Winchester, Va.; and Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond, Va. For 14 Warriors, it was the first time they had traveled to Harman’s. Also, three professional fly fishing guides/instructors attended and donated their time to the event.
The air temperatures never rose above the upper 30s and often included wind chills in the teens with heavy rain and snow during the weekend’s festivities.
Bigg Riggs Farm, owned by Calvin Riggleman, an Iraq Marine combat Veteran and small farmer from Loom, W. Va., provided all meals for the three-day event.
Friday and Saturday evenings included Warrior raffles for prizes donated by supporters from around the country. Additionally, three small businesses donated products through the two PHWFF programs’ relationships on social media.
Evenings were filled with various fly tying instruction at different cabins to include wet flies, soft hackle flies, streamers and clouser minnows. Volunteers and professional guides provided the free instruction.
The stream had been recently stocked by Harman’s with rainbow and brown trout, ranging in size from 17 to 20 inches. However, due to extremely heavy rains on Friday, Saturday’s fishing schedule was pushed back and instruction on fly casting and fly tying were held during the morning and early afternoon. Fishing was limited to “shore only” during the afternoon. Even though fishing was limited, Warriors caught fish.
Sunday morning, attendees woke to a winter storm and many left early in the day. Those who were able to stay fished from shore. Five Warriors decided to extend their stay to wait for the storm to pass so they could safely travel home. (photo Lally Laksbergs)
I was recently able to complete a trade that netted me the Arkham Knight Batman figure by Hot Toys, released last fall. The announcement of this figure was somewhat of a shock to us all - at a time when Hot Toys was being bitched at for only pursuing repaints of Iron Man figures (not that I blame them), out of the blue came an addition to their pretty sparsely populated Videogame Masterpiece Series.
Arkham Knight is of course, the final entry into this particular Batman video game trilogy (officially), and these spiffy new duds he is wearing is the latest Batsuit, which Bruce Wayne gets access to pretty early in the game. Even if you haven't played the game, it's prevalent in every piece of advertisement for this game, so not much spoiler material here. In general terms, this suit is more armour than the previous ones, hence the metallic finish and plating.
Up until this figure announced, I thought that the NECA 1/4 scale version was the bomb. The paint work was excellent, the sculpt was pretty good, and the articulation blew the Origins version out of the water.
Then, as Hot Toys always does, a few prototype pictures were released and my heart went a flutter.
The set comes with the figure, several accessories and hands for gripping them, a stand, a backdrop, and two expressions, surly and angry, the only two modes he has. The cape the figure comes has some wiring inside for posing (which I suck at and made no attempt).
Having played around with the figure for a while now, I would summarize my thoughts as follows:
The suit on the the Arkham City Batman figure was vastly improved over the prototype, which showed Batman to be having some massive muscle deterioration, particularly in the core area. I don't know what kind of voodoo Hot Toys employed, but the suit on this figure is flawlessly tailored - no sagging bits to be found, excellent paint apps and detailing all over. Unfortunately, while the figure looks excellent in museum poses (static), the articulation on this beast is pretty bad, and even if you could move the figure, you wouldn't want to leave it in any extreme positions as this will probably damage the rubber body suit.
Further adding to the negative is because of the restrictive articulation, it's really hard to display the figure with any of the included accessories. I'm sure some people can find ways to make it work, but I'm on the sleep deprivation program, dammit (parent of young children) and I need all the brain cells I got. Head articulation is average - can swivel side to side, but limited tilting abilities.
The sculpting is phenomenal, further emphasized by the excellent paint work. Seeing this figure is like seeing first hand what Play Arts Kai is supposed to be able to deliver, having access to the computer models used in games and all that. Yes, I realize they are in a different price range, but if you're in Hong Kong the price difference between a PAK and Hot Toys figure is not as material as here in North America. Figures like PAK clearly have the advantage when it comes to articulation, but for the price that is asked, NECA stuff is often a better choice, and has better shelf presence.
The one negative thing about the sculpting is that Batman can look kind of goofy if you photograph his face from the wrong angle, but I think that's probably true about anything.
In summary, I feel that if you're into museum poses, this is a pretty good figure, though even by museum pose standards its somewhat restrictive. But if you find the right lighting, this figure really shines, aided by the exceptional finishes, paintwork, and detailing. It honestly looks like something right out of the game.

We made a short notice booking to Copenhagen, Jayne had the first week in September booked off and we wanted to try and do a city break. Five nights hardly seemed enough but the short flight was ok. We flew over home heading east on a beautiful morning. I love flying over an area that I know and being able to see it from above. We had been warned that Copenhagen was expensive-it was! I hadn’t done any research before we set off but on the flight over, I read that taxis were expensive, so it was best to use the Metro from the airport, it isn’t far in to the city and the Metro was fairly easy to use. However! We should have caught the train, I read this whist we were sat on the Metro it has to be said! The nearest Metro stop, which I was frantically trying to work out, using my phone, travelling in and out of tunnels, turned out to be a 1.5 mile walk from our hotel, the rail station was .5. Never mind we were there to walk-subject to my lately diagnosed arthritic ankle, we just didn’t want to be towing suitcases over cobbled pavements at the same time.
We were staying in the Tivoli Hotel which was described as central, it is near Central Station but you wouldn’t describe it as central to the city. Our room wasn’t ready but we could upgrade for a modest amount plus we realised it would be a good idea to include breakfast in the upgrade deal. A good move as it turned out. Our room overlooked the train lines-all twelve of them!! We could already hear train brakes squealing along with the thump thump of steel wheels rolling over points and joints. It’s true to say that Central Station is a 24/7 operation. The overnight noise didn’t bother Jayne but I could hear it all night.
We dumped our stuff and I loaded up with the backpack and camera and we were straight out there. Copenhagen is a relatively small city but there is a lot to see. We were soon finding out that it has an extensive network of canals and bridges and these are a major feature of life in the city. Pan flat, the cyclist rules, There appeared to be twice as many bikes as residents, with countless thousands propped up everywhere you went. Where ever you looked there was silent conveyor of sit up and beg cycles being ridden in all directions. You soon got used to looking over your shoulder before making a move. The vast majority of bikes are left unlocked and almost no one wears a helmet ( I’m a no helmet man, much to the annoyance of the helmet zealots). Copenhagen is reputedly the happiest place in the world and it certainly came across as friendly and relaxed. It is, though, one of the most expensive cities in the world and two burgers and two small glasses of wine at Nyhavn cost us £50. Comically, there were four people, local to us, shouting out Jayne’s name, they had seen us going past and we had a laugh about the prices, They were sat drinking beer at £8.50 a pint. Despite the expense, the place was packed with people parting with their money. Wages are very high locally, as are the taxes. The high wages and high costs must feed each other in an upward spiral I would have thought.
Unfortunately the cost of entering buildings to go up towers etc. for a higher view of the city was also very expensive (to us). The tower at Christiansborg Palace is free but restricted by the lift system and you don’t get to the top, it does also open later than the others so you have a chance of seeing sunset over the city. Unfortunately the lifts were out of order on one of our best weather days. We did get to go up the day after but it was dull and I wasn’t overly impressed. The spiral tower across in Christiana, The Church of Our Saviour, was far more impressive. We climbed the tower here just after it opened on a stunning morning and the views are fantastic. There will be incredible bottlenecks when it’s busy though on the corkscrew stairs that get progressively narrower towards the top. Some people hog it to take endless selfies at the top and it is extremely tight up there, you can’t move up until they come down.
As usual, we tried to get to some out of the way places, with only five days and mixed weather though we had enough mainstream destinations to see. We had a day of heavy rain so we went back to the rail station which was a good indoor (and free!) destination, and made umbrellas and the rain the focal point of that days photos. The entire Danish navy seemed to be at anchor, we just missed an open day on one ship. Some I could photograph, others were guarded and had restrictions, I got the evil eye from a couple of guards as the spotted the big Canon in my hand. I can’t imagine that they could police the Japanese and stop them from getting their photos and selfies though. I always act very openly with the camera and if people look at me suspiciously I smile and give them the thumbs up. In a rail station I usually ask the police. In Central Station the police were in their station and I never saw one move out, it is covered by extensive CCTV but there were some very unpleasant people, drinking and watching for people being careless with their belongings. We were lucky to be in the station on Sunday as a tourist steam train arrived, it sat at the platform belching smoke and steam for fifteen minutes, it was also coming back in an hour so we had an expensive coffee and waited to see it again. There was big military event outside the Christiansborg Palace on Monday, with a parade through the city that came past just as we were in a good spot to view it. The area was full of soldiers wearing their medals. We haven’t discovered the reason, although someone suggested a passing out parade for new recruits. Maybe the ships were in port for this as well.
Tivoli Gardens is another big draw and we went in, again it was fairly expensive, it had been a stunning day and the biggest problem was contrast, with deep shadows and a bright blue sky. We stayed until dark, it opens late and is very colourful. We went on the world’s highest carousel and got flung around 260 odd feet in the air. Luckily, we also found a bar that served wine at ‘only’ £5.60 a glass so we sat and watched people have fun screaming and shrieking above us.
There are many buildings with copper domes, entire copper roofs, even modern buildings are often clad in either brass or copper to blend in with the ancient buildings around them. Like every city we have visited, tower cranes are in abundance. There is a lot of development going on and unfortunately a lot of it is around buildings that you would want to photograph. We walked 12 to 14 mile every day and took in most of the sights. We didn’t really do any interiors, only towers and the railway station. At the time of writing I haven’t looked at what I’ve got, I have around 3000 shots, some on the G1X which I used when it was raining heavily as it easy to put in a pocket. I have a lot less time for editing these days so it will be a long process I think. To save time I am going to create a list of generic tags that I can copy and paste to each upload – the time saving is enormous – so apologies to anyone who gets a photo of a canal when they wanted a steam train or vice versa.
Since it was early June we were able to enjoy the late spring bloom and saw the starts of plants for the summer season. This is just outside the back of the Pitmedden house and tea room, entering the upper garden area. At the back is the entrance to the sunken gardens. Will and Marjorie are there and Will is holding his camera, figuring what to take a picture of next.
Owned and cared for by the National Trust for Scotland, Pitmedden Garden is easy to overlook against the background of the fine castles and stately homes the NTS also care for in Aberdeenshire, all of which come complete with their own gardens and estates. Why bother with a garden on its own when you can enjoy one together with the house or castle it was built for? The simple answer is that if you overlook Pitmedden Garden, you overlook one of the most spectacular and distinctive gardens in Scotland, a 1950s recreation of the "Great Garden" first established here in the years from 1675.
If you do so you also, incidentally, overlook the fascinating Museum of Farming Life created almost as an afterthought and housed in the farm buildings occupying part of the site.
Once in the garden itself there is little immediately on view beyond enclosing hedges and the sculpture of two boxing hares. Rounding the rear of the house brings you into the true upper part of the garden. This is home to broad lawns and finely sculptured and regulated trees and hedges, and to two parterres. A parterre is a highly formalised garden usually involving closely clipped hedges and laid out in a symmetrical pattern. The idea started life in France and England in the early 1600s, but most were replaced when the fashion for landscape gardening took hold from the 1720s.
Prepare to have your breath taken away, because your first view across Pitmedden's lower garden is remarkable. Here, apparently sunk into the ground (in fact terraced into the side of the slight slope on which the whole garden is built) is an enormous walled enclosure with a central tree lined avenue and four distinct parterres. Taken with the two on the upper level, these provide a history of the development of a parterre. And if you have ever recoiled at the idea of trimming your hedge at home, spare a though for those responsible for keeping the six miles of closely trimmed hedging at Pitmedden in such magnificent condition.
The original plans for the garden were burned in a fire in 1807 along with Pitmedden house, so the gardens are based on those at Holyrood in Edinburgh and with some designed from scratch to incorporate elements celebrating the Great Garden's founder, Sir Alexander Seton.
It is the end of the first week of the year, and normality has returned.
Somewhat.
This retirement thing is still a bit of a novelty, like being able to take advantage of a sale for train tickets, which I have taken advantage of.
More of that in the upcoming weeks.
But normality, on Wednesdays, beings another class for Jools and bridge for me.
Things is with bridge, in the RAF we were all the same standard, and so bid pretty much the same way, reflecting our hands. The only convention we did follow was to open two clubs for a hand with over twenty points.
So, for the first meet of the year, the lesson was weak overcalls.
Which was very interesting, and the reason for it is to force the opposition into a higher contract than they would like.
But with so many conventions and opening bids, unless your partner knows what you do, it may all bring chaos.
But anyway, the hands were sorted so we could all experience making overcalls and seeing how well or how badly we would do.
Ten of us turned up, two didn't, meaning that we took turns in sitting out.
It was all enjoyable, and there was tea and refreshments as well as gossip. The two hours flow, and I bailed half an hour early as I was heading to Folkestone.
Jools had an appointment in Canterbury, so she was going on the bus, leaving me with a good two hours to do something.
Something involved a church.
I saw Ss, Mary and Eanswythe was open between eleven and one, so I would head over, and also try to arrange a visit for my churchcrawling group.
It was a bitterly cold, but gloriously sunny day, I drive back along the Deal Road, past St Maggies through Dover and out up the A20 to Folkestone.
Folkestone was pretty quiet. Lots of parking spaces, and some shops have given up opening some days of the week: Mondays and Tuesdays, and on other days have reduced hours.
So I walked up the Old High Street, where most places were closed, then up to the snicket to the church, past the woold shop, where I thought maybe I should buy Jools some wool.
But didn't.
The church was open, so I go in and was welcomed by a volunteer, Pam, who I struck up conversation with.
It would be a pleasure to have the group, so details were exchanged and hopefully we will go back next month.
I photograph the Victorian glass, some by Kempe were of a very high quality, but the Victorians were thorough in their renovation, and little of the church before the 19th century remains. But I spot some.
The church is bitterly cold, and this is having a detrimental effect on some of the Victorian wall paintings, one on the north wall of the tower had deteriorated badly in the last few weeks, as there appears to be a leak around an old blocked up window, and the water runs down through the mortar.
After an hour, I was done, so say thanks to the volunteers, and walk back to the car.
I was hungry, it was nearly one, and should I wait for Jools or get something?
In the end I called in at Little Farthingloe Farm Shop for a warm sausage roll, and as they looked delicious, a Viennese Whirl, half dipped in chocolate.
The sausage roll I ate standing in the car park, the whirl I ate once back home with a fresh brew, and was crumbly and delicious.
I should have gone out for a walk, but it really was too cold, so waited inside for the call from Jools saying she was back in Dover on the bus.
It came at half two, easier to pick her up from B&Q in Whitfield, so with ten minutes to kill, I went into Lidl to look through their beers and see if they still sold frickedellen.
No unusual beers, nor none of the spicy burgers any more, nor super dickmans (don't Google that), so I took the trolley through the tills to walk out the door.
Every siren in the shop went off, apparently the trolley-cum-baskets can't leave through the main door.
It was like being caught in the middle of a serious crime.
I handed back the trolley and walked out, sheepishly, to find Jools waiting beside the car.
We could go home.
My GP called, in a good mood as he had reviewed my last blood test, and pleased with the drop in sugars. So, I told him the phys, the reduction in wine, and so on, which made him happier still.
Onwards and upwards.
Lunch was hash. I had cubed the potatoes before going out, and while waiting for Jools had drained and boiled them, so that when it came to fry them, they would be crispy.
Hash is always good, but with crispy potatoes and a chilled bottle of Belgian Christmas beer made it tip top.
The evening was taken with football. I watched the first half of Palace v Villa, which promised much, but delivered nothing. So switched to the Burnley v Man Utd game at quarter past eight, and was better, ending 2-2. The Palace game ended 0-0, so I chose wisely.

Almost no carbonation, deep flavours of dried fruit, slightly bitter aftertaste . 8/10
I was finally able to capture a male long tailed duck aka old squaw. There were hundreds of ducks on the open water at the Toronto Lakeshore today. It was a mixture of sun and cloud and extremely cold, with choppy waves but I had lots of fun photographing a variety of ducks. Not an easy duck to photograph because of the light and dark colours. On this image I turned the exposure to -2/3. Also - rule of thirds is out because of the long tail!!
Bishop Olmsted ordains diocese’s newest priest
By Ambria Hammel | June 2, 2012 | The Catholic Sun
Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted ordained Dan Vanyo to the priesthood June 2 at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral.
He joins 254 diocesan and religious priests who serve the Phoenix Diocese by offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, conferring the sacraments and overseeing aspects of parish life. Many of them were on hand to offer congratulations to their newest brother.
That included a handful of local priests and some from St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver who played key roles in Fr. Vanyo’s discernment. Fr. Vanyo, 43, began discerning his call to the priesthood at age 32 when a friend through a local Catholic singles group was discerning religious life.
“I never discerned anything,” Fr. Vanyo said. He researched some religious orders, but it wasn’t until a day for prospective diocesan seminarians that he reached a peaceful conclusion.
“They need help here,” Fr. Vanyo, then a hospice nurse, recalled thinking. “That’s when I gave the Lord my fiat. If you open the door, I’ll walk through it.”
He ran into Fr. Chauncey Winkler, who he knew from the local Catholic Retreat for Young Singles group and told him, “I think this is where I could be of some help.”
He entered the seminary in 2005 and was among a reported 487 ordinands nationally who will join the ranks of priesthood this year. Bishop Olmsted read from the Ordination Rite during Mass.
He reminded the crowd, including family and friends who filled the first row on both sides, that Jesus chose certain disciples to carry out publicly in His name, a priestly office. He reminded the diocese’s newest priest of his roles of Christ the teacher, priest and shepherd.
“Carry out the ministry of Christ the priest with constant joy and love,” the bishop said. He also challenged Fr. Vanyo to bring the people together in one family. That’s a challenge the priest plans to meet in his new home, Queen of Peace Parish in Mesa. He will serve as parochial vicar starting July 1.
“I am most excited that I will be able to hear people’s confessions. When the Holy Spirit touches the hearts of the penitents with His grace in the confessional, I will be blessed to be a witness to it,” Fr. Vanyo said.
In addition to a parish presence, Fr. Vanyo will serve as chaplain at Seton Catholic Preparatory High School in Chandler. Fr. Vanyo will offer his first liturgy, a Mass of Thanksgiving, at his home parish Holy Cross in Mesa, at 10 a.m. June 3.

Before astronauts and cosmonauts flew into outer space, monkeys and apes were tested. This is Able, who survived the flight but died when the electrodes were surgically removed after the flight. On display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
I was able to combine 3 of my favourite things yesterday. On the edge of town at Taurus Crafts, there was a small Beer Festival . So I was able to sup a few ales, listen to the great band they provided, and take a couple of snaps. They describe their music as "Old Time meets Country Rock meets Rock n Roll ..don't try putting a label on it"! Anyway, they were really good.
Finally PTI was able to hold attention of the people until all of sudden JI came forward. Overheard someone saying to his friend, "hey let's go to the Molvis now, these people are just Cricketers".

On 2nd January 2012, Pakistani citizens took to the street in anger against the Government's decision to not only raise natural gas prices but also cut-off supply to CNG stations to offset the shortage in supply to the Industrial units. Here is how I saw my fellow Pakistanis in action at Bharakahu, Islamabad. I am now more than convinced that these protests offer a window into the minds and psyche of what is actually 90% of Pakistan. (complete set: bit.ly/PkProtest)

Our traditional New Years Day family reunion in Lares, Puerto Rico. This was the first time I have been able to attend though this gathering has been going on for many years. They're held at "El Taino", my cousin Johnny's countryside restaurant/catering hall. Johnny Santiago has been extremely generous in hosting these beautiful gatherings since they began.
Too many of my cousins on this occasion were new to me that I don't yet know (or yet remember.....sorry:) their names....as I know them I'll post them.
This year's gathering was well attended. On ocasions when it was, there were reported to have been aproximately 500 hundred souls. Because of the family diaspora, we are found all over the US and other places in the western hemisphere and europe, although many are still in various cities on the island of "Borinquen" (PR).
A bit of history: my mother's (Santiago) grandfather was widowed and married a much younger woman who had three sisters. These three (Otaño) sisters ended up marrying this man's three sons (one was my grandad Juan Liberato Santiago)! That same (maternal) granddad, it so happens, is a second cousin (twice over) to my paternal grandmother (Monserrate Rodriguez-Cardona). I have a huge and complicated (maternal-paternal) family tree with about one hundred and ten first-cousins......
Part of the reason for this interesting & prolific gene pool is that many of our people were farners whose many children were helpful on the farms and they came from, what was then, a rather isolated part of the island (of Puerto Rico) settled by folks who originally came from Galicia (Spain), France, the Canary Islands (isleños) and England. Several cousins have been compiling a geneological history that indicates that most of our family immigrated to the "island of enchantment" in the early to late1800s.
This is the version that P.C. (our local ramp designer extrodinaire) messed with, you should be able to notice he's made a few changes. He's also written 2500 word essay to accompany it expaining the changes he would make. None of them are hugely major! The biggest and most obvious is the size of the mini ramp.
Here it is the p.c's perspective, thanks for being so passionate paul....
"ok, this design looks alot better. it's still not right, but it's
moving in the right direction!
it's important to get this design right, to get it bang on! we need to
be fussy coz we only get to build a skatepark once!
the guys from Gravity always said to be brutally honest with regard to
design feedback. this is a good move. that's how quality is born!
whilst we're still hoping that the budget (and therefore the content of
the design/park) will grow further, it's worth considering that it
might not.
therefore, for now at least whilst we await the results of all the
final funding applications, it's worth trying to maximise the potential
of this design and the 90k buget that we're working to at the moment.
as i said, this design looks good, but it's not right yet. and rather
than say "i like it" or "i don't like it" we need to be specific in
order to get the best out of it.
the right hand side of this looks very much like my original design, it
just needs some tweaking. the left hand side however needs more
attention
the important bit
there's 2 pyra-hips....! whereas this could be a fun line to skate,
'could be fun' isn't quite the same as 'getting the best out of it' by
any stretch of the imagination.
the larger one would be much better used as a proper flatbank, with a
block or jersey barrier at/near the top.
that basically means streching it up a bit taller than it is and losing
the bank on the left hand side of it in the picture, wilst widening the
top out to where the 9 is in the pic. and ideally also streching it out
to the right to replace the no. 7 quarterpipe. basically, check my
original design (no.3) to see what i mean.
the block on the (smaller) pyra-hip should be 5 sided (3 main sides),
again as in my original design.
the no.6 rail and blocks could be tweaked/changed a bit, but thats for
looking at later on down the line.
the really important bit
look at the picture and read the key. the miniramp is 1050mm high for
the most part. that's just over a meter. that's smaller than the ramp
there now. thats about the size of eastwood ramp!
yeah, there's an extention, but that's only a bit of it. the main bulk
part of the ramp really needs to be higher, about 1.5meters (thats just
under 5 foot). this incudes the hip too remember, so it really does
need to be bigger. and the hips in the pic look very rounded. squared
hip please!
the whole bowled out corner is a bit ambigous with regard to flow.
again, sure this would be 'fun to skate' but thats not as good as
'getting the best out of it.'
sometimes you need to simplify things to get better function, and to
save resorces that can be channeled into other things (i.e. the
miniramp).
the best thing to do with the bowled corner is lose it completely.
stretch the quarterpipe that leads on to it off of the hip out to the
edge of the park, and lose the section of quarterpipe that leads from
where the bowl is up to the top of the flatbank. stretch the flatbank
up a foot or so higher at the end where it meets the quarter and
there's a nice eurogap/ wembly gap/ gravity gap onto/off of the quarter
into the bank, but it also provides a nice line on to and off of the
coping/transition of the quarterpipe.
i have attempted an edit of the plan to try to illustrate this better.
it's really very simple really!
that would improve the focus and flow of that corner of the park,
removing the ambigous multi-directional flow and giving it a more
specific function.
and of course, the resorces saved can be channeled into the miniramp!
this also goes for the quarterpipe that makes up the lower hip in the
picture. as mentioned above, the bigger pyra-hip should be a flatbank
that faces the smaller pyra-hip, with no flatbank on the left side.
therefore the second (lower) hip and that quarter would be pretty much
redundant, and again resorces better used elsewhere!
it also simplifies the flow and function of that corner too.
with the lower quarterpipe/hip gone, and the lower pyra-hip becoming a
single direction flatbank, there would be an area of flat which is
always good to have and suprisingly absent from many modern parks. esp.
when you consider the 'game of skate' culture that we have nowdays.
maybe stick a little stand alone mannypad/block in there, and get rid
of the nipple which is fairly redundant as it doesn't really lead to or
from anything specific. or just keep it for the hell of it!
or...
what with all the saved resorces, move the mini next to the flatbank
(i.e. what is currently the lower pyra-hip), stick the bowled coner on
the (left-hand bottom) end and have the hip in the bottom left corner
of the park. yes, i'm afraid to say that i'm just harping back to my
original design again, only minus the flatbanks on the back of the
mini, and minus the bottom left raised bit, instead just having just an
area of flat. yes you'd actually have to push to get speed for the
pyra-hip! god forbid! stick the pump nipple (or 2) in here instead,
just for fun.
however, i don't think that the 'saved resorces' would quite stretch
that far, what with still needing to raise the level of the mini AND
stretching it into 2 mini's with a hip and bowled corner. then again,
the bowled corner could be left out of this layout too, thus saving
more resorces for the rest of it!
with all these changes the park would look damm near my original
design, only mirrored top to bottom, and as i said, minus the bottom
left raised bits and flatbanks. but the current budget may not be able
to accomodate the last paragraph.
OR....
put another quarterpipe backing onto the side of the larger flatbank,
i.e. where the 'west-facing' flatbank is on the bigger pyra-hip,
stretching out level with the lower hip thus creating two proper whole
mini's hipped together whilst retaining the rest of the layout (minus
of course the bowled corner etc). this could well be the best move, but
the mini's still need to be higher all round, which again, may be

Tactical shooting requires agile and adaptive thinkers able to handle the challenges of full spectrum operations in an era of persistent conflict. To meet this requirement, TAPS delivers a comprehensive, systematic, progressive Train-the-Trainer shooting program focused on fundamental mastery and built for Law Enforcement officers, military personal, and qualified civilians. Designed for leaders and trainers, the TAPS course also applies to the patrol-level officer, basic level Soldiers, and civilian self & home defense minded shooters. The approach to instruction is through coaching and mentorship and both demonstrates and transfers a training method that is safe, effective, combat relevant, and encourages a continuous thought process that demands accountability. Training is conducted on the range and focuses on advanced refinement of the basic fundamentals of marksmanship as applied to the primary and secondary weapons systems. Utilizing a building block learning model, TAPS combines the pressures and dynamics of competitive shooting and tactical application. While course of instruction is on the firing range, the TAPS training approach also translates into training venues outside the range.
Course Outline:
The 2-day course offering provides the following training and instruction:
- Lecture on proper weapons handling and safety
- Refresh the fundamentals and grouping exercises
- Conduct a diagnostic course of fire
- Conduct a discussion on the importance of performing a focal shift during training and avoiding mundane drills that do not encourage a thought process
- Other topics covered and practiced are; grouping exercises with both primary and secondary weapon systems, target discrimination, use of barricades, movement, close quarter battle techniques, immediate action drills, ballistics 101, transitions, magazine changes
- Escalation of training and intensity will vary depending on number of students and their skill level though the core of the course will always remain the same
- This course is marksmanship intensive.

There is a lot of action over time in cornfields dry out for hunters of doves? Killings, digging up fields for buried treasure in the sense of greenbacks. How does an institutionalized person miles out of the house ensure it is to spend per night in a windy climate to dig for the treasure? And how did she get to her hospital home? Is the lady truly insane? Money talks and even in the walls of confinement, the employees treats her with utter respect. spybubblefreev.com/

Sebelum menikah, sebelum lahir, ataupun setelah lahir,GENERATION OF HIGHLY QUALIFIED dapat diciptakan.
Setelah lahir GENERATION OF HIGHLY QUALIFIED diciptakan melalui dua metode:
1.metode secara dlahir/syariat/nyata (melalui bantuan kami)
2.metode batin/ghaib (melalui bantuan kami)

I was able to attend Project Nunway LA this past weekend, the models, designers and venue were amazing, it was all for Charity and it was amazing!!!
I was lucky enough to hang out all day and get some great behind the scenes shots, then I was able to enjoy watching the show!
I was able to witness the most beautiful sight I've seen in my entire life. Of all the countries and places I've visited, this spot is the most beautiful place I've seen, no doubt. For years I've seen pictures of this place and I wanted to get here, it was probably one of the main goals, if not the main of this trip. I travelled thousands of kilometres, I hiked and climbed about 200km traversing the Himalayas to get here.
I started the climb to Gokyo Ri at about 04:30 am, at a steady pace I was able to go faster than most of the trekkers already on their way in the darkness. I reached the summit at 06:00 am, I was the third person at the top. I immediately noticed the spectacularity of this place. Slowly, the sun comes out behind Mt Makalu, I recognised it instantly. It's a beautiful scene, after a few minutes the sun is already providing light to most of the areas, the morning gaze combined with the early sun rays creates an atmosphere hard to describe but makes me stay still and do nothing else than contemplate the enormous beauty that arises.
I've never seen such beauty altogether, perfect colours, mountains, wind. How many people in the Earth gets to witness this sight? To be able to appreciate the biggest mountain on Earth, Mount Everest and its famous faces, turquoise lakes, snow caped peaks, Makalu - the fifth highest mountain in the world - Nuptse, Cholatse, Taboche, Cho Oyu - the sixth highest mountain in the world - on my left, Ngozumpa glacier and its impressive size that I crossed two days ago and all the Himalayas in its greatest form, all that in one single glimpse of the eye, is something impossible to describe with words, one can just stay there and look at it, the most beautiful sight that could exist in this world.
I noticed most of the people that reaches the summit stay there for about 15 to 30 minutes after taking some photos. I stayed at the top for four and a half hours.

I spotted this guy sitting in a tree about a 1/4 mile away from where I was. I could barely make him out through the dense growth of that old tree he was sitting in. I had to climb a bob wire fence down a raven a long side a creek. I didn't want to get wet, or rip my pants trying to climb that fence, but there was no turning back now. Boy am I glad I didn't hang myself on that bob wire, it would have been brutal. I stalked him, though I'm pretty sure he could see me coming even though I was trying to conceal myself as best I could in an open field in the middle of nowhere. I crept ever closer till I finally came out into the open field, were he could see me easily, if he was even still there at this point. I could no longer see him in that tree, but I kept going none the less in case he was. As I stumbled through the water soaked grass next to the creek, trying not to break my neck, he allowed me to come even closer and closer, even though I didn't know he was still there for sure. When I finally saw him again I was only about 35' away.
He or she, became uneasy as I crept still closer so I stop in my tracks and just started firing away with my Nikon D800 whose shutter is so LOUD, clank, clank, it sounded, yet he didn't take to flight, he merely inched a bit closer to the end of the branch he was sitting on so he could make a quick getaway if need be. I think he was just as interested in seeing me up close as I was him. He had to be at least 2' high and weighing approximately 3 lbs. or so if ounce. He was a big boy that's for sure. I was thrilled to be able to see him up close and personal like that, and I thanked him for not flying away before I could get a few good pictures.
I came here hoping to find a different kind of owl altogether, on the other side of the field, but he was gone, so the Lord gave me another owl instead. I'm sure it was the Holy Spirit getting me to stop just then so I could see him, knowing how much I love Owls. Had I stopped anywhere else I'd of never seen him at all. Perfect timing as always when the Lord is involved. I've never stopped in this area before, it had to be the Lord. So thank YOU JESUS, Love it... :^)
Life's and adventure when you walk with the Lord. Notice the blood on this guy's talons? I imagine he's a very good hunter.

A superb location in a leafy churchyard away from the busy shopping centre, and yet much more of a town church than that of a seaside resort. It was originally a thirteenth-century building, but so much has happened to it that today we are left with the impression of a Victorian interior. Excellent stained glass by Kempe, mosaics by Carpenter and paintings by Hemming show the enthusiasm of Canon Woodward, vicar from 1851 to 1898. His efforts encouraged others to donate money to beautify the building in an almost continuous restoration that lasted right into the twentieth century They were spurred on by the discovery, in 1885, of the bones of St Eanswythe, in a lead casket which had been set into the sanctuary wall. She had founded a convent in the town in the seventh century and died at the age of twenty-six.

FOLKESTONE.
THE parish of Folkestone, which gives name to this hundred, was antiently bounded towards the south by the sea, but now by the town and liberty of Folkestone, which has long since been made a corporation, and exempt from the jurisdiction of the hundred. The district of which liberty is a long narrow slip of land, having the town within it, and extending the whole length of the parish, between the sea shore and that part of the parish still within the jurisdiction of the hundred, and county magistrates, which is by far the greatest part of it.
THE PARISH, which is about three miles across each way, is situated exceedingly pleasant and healthy. The high chalk, or down hills uniclosed, and well covered with pasture, cross the northern part of it, and from a sine romantic scene. Northward of these, this part of the parish is from its high situation, called the uphill of Folkestone; in this part is Tirlingham, the antient mansion of which has been some years since pulled down, and a modern farm-house erected in its stead; near it is Hearn forstal, on which is a good house, late belonging to Mr. Nicholas Rolse, but now of Mr. Richard Marsh; over this forstal the high road leads from Folkestone to Canterbury. The centre of the parish is in the beautiful and fertile vale called Folkestone vale, which has downs, meadows, brooks, marshes, arable land, and every thing in small parcels, which is sound in much larger regions; being interspersed with houses and cottages, and well watered by several fresh streams; besides which, at Ford forstall, about a mile northward from the town, there rises a strong chalybeat spring. This part of the parish, by far the greatest part of it, as far as the high road from Dover, through it, towards Hythe, is within the jurisdiction of the hundred of Folkestone, and the justices of the county. The small part on the opposite, or southern side of that road is within the liberty of the town or corporation of Folkestone, where the quarry or sand hills, on the broken side of one of which, the town is situated, are its southern maritime boundaries. These hills begin close under the chalk or down hills, in the eastern part of this parish, close to the sea at Eastware bay, and extend westward along the sea shore almost as far as Sandgate castle, where they stretch inland towards the north, leaving a small space between them and the shore. So that this parish there crossing one of them, extends below it, a small space in the bottom as far as that castle, these quarry, or sand hills, keeping on their course north-west, from the northern boundary of Romney Marsh, and then the southern boundary of the Weald, both which they overlook, extending pretty nearly in a parallel line with the chalk or down hills.
The prospect over this delightful vale of Folkestone from the hill, on the road from Dover as you descend to the town, is very beautiful indeed for the pastures and various fertility of the vale in the centre, beyond it the church and town of Hythe, Romney Marsh, and the high promontory of Beachy head, boldly stretching into the sea. On the right the chain of losty down hills, covered with verdure, and cattle seeding on them; on the lest the town of Folkestone, on the knole of a hill, close to the sea, with its scattered environs, at this distance a pleasing object, and beyond it the azure sea unbounded to the sight, except by the above-mentioned promontory, altogether from as pleasing a prospect as any in this county.
FOLKESTONE was a place of note in the time of the Romans, and afterwards in that of the Saxons, as will be more particularly noticed hereafter, under the description of the town itself. By what name it was called by the Romans, is uncertain; by the Saxons it was written Folcestane, and in the record of Domesday, Fulchestan. In the year 927 king Athelstane, son of king Edward the elder, and grandson of king Alfred, gave Folkstane, situated, as is mentioned in the grant of it, on the sea shore, where there had been a monastery, or abbey of holy virgins, in which St. Eanswith was buried, which had been destroyed by the Danes, to the church of Canterbury, with the privilege of holding it L. S. A. (fn. 1) But it Seems afterwards to have been taken from it, for king Knute, in 1038, is recorded to have restored to that church, the parish of Folkstane, which had been given to it as above-mentioned; but upon condition, that it should never be alienated by the archbishop, without the licence both of the king and the monks. Whether they joined in the alienation of it, or it was taken from them by force, is uncertain; but the church of Canterbury was not in possession of this place at the time of taking the survey of Domesday, in 1080, being the 14th year of the Conqueror's reign, at which time it was part of the possessions of the bishop of Baieux, the conqueror's half-brother, under the general description of whose lands it is thus entered in it:
In Limowart lest, in Fulcbestan hundred, William de Acris holds Fulchestan. In the time of king Edward the Consessor, it was taxed at forty sulings, and now at thirty-nine. The arable land is one hundred and twenty carucates. In demesne there are two hundred and nine villeins, and four times twenty, and three borderes. Among all they have forty-five carcates. There are five churches, from which the archbishop has fifty-five shillings. There are three servants, and seven mills of nine pounds and twelve shillings. There are one hundred acres of meadow. Wood for the pannage of forty bogs. Earl Godwin held this manor.
Of this manor, Hugo, son of William, holds nine sulings of the land of the villeins, and there he has in demesne four carucates and an half, and thirty-eight villeins, with seventeen borderes, who have sixteen carucates. There are three churches, and one mill and an half, of sixteen shillings and five-pence, and one saltpit of thirty pence. Wood for the pannage of six bogs. It is worth twenty pounds.
Walter de Appeuile holds of this manor three yokes and twelve acres of land, and there he has one carucate in demesne, and three villeins, with one borderer. It is worth thirty shillings.
Alured holds one suling and forty acres of land, and there he has in demesne two carucates, with six borderers, and twelve acres of meadow. It is worth four pounds.
Walter, son of Engelbert, holds half a suling and forty acres, and there he has in demesne one carucate, with seven borderers, and five acres of meadow. It is worth thirty shillings.
Wesman holds one suling, and there he has in demesne one carucate, and two villeins, with seven borderers having one carucate and an half. It is worth four pounds.
Alured Dapiser holds one suling and one yoke and six acres of land, and there he has in demesne one carucate, with eleven borderers. It is worth fifty shillings.
Eudo holds half a suling, and there he has in demesne one carucate, with four borderers, and three acres of meadow. It is worth twenty shillings.
Bernard de St. Owen, four sulings, and there he has in demesne three carucates, and six villeins, with eleven borderes, having two carucates. There are four servants, and two mills of twenty-four shillings, and twenty acres of meadow. Wood for the pannage of two bogs.
Of one denne, and of the land which is given from these suling to ferm, there goes out three pounds. In the whole it is worth nine pounds.
Baldric holds half a suling, and there he has one carucate, and two villeins, with six borderers having one carucate, and one mill of thirty pence. It is worth thirty shillings.
Richard holds fifty-eight acres of land, and there he has one carucate, with five borderers. It is worth ten shillings.
All Fulchestan, in the time of king Edward the Consessor, was worth one hundred and ten pounds, when he received it forty pounds, now what he has in demesne is worth one hundred pounds; what the knights hold abovementioned together, is worth forty-five pounds and ten shillings.
¶It plainly appears that this entry in Domesday does not only relate to the lands within this parish, but to those in the adjoining parishes within the hundred, the whole of which, most probably, were held of the bishop of Baieux, but to which of them each part refers in particular, is at this time impossible to point out. About four years after the taking of the above survey, the bishop was disgraced, and all his possessions consiscated to the crown. After which, Nigell de Muneville, a descendant of William de Arcis, mentioned before in Domesday, appears to have become possessed of the lordship of Folkestone, and as such in 1095, being the 9th year of king William Rusus, removed the priory of Folkestone from the bail of the castle to the place where it afterwards continued. His son William dying in his life-time s. p, Matilda his sole daughter and heir was given in marriage with the whole of her inheritance, by king Henry I. to Ruallanus de Albrincis, or Averenches, whose descendant Sir William de Albrincis, was become possessed of this lordship at the latter end of that reign; and in the 3d year of the next reign of king Stephen, he confirmed the gifts of his ancestors above-mentioned to the priory here. He appears to have been one of those knights, who had each a portion of lands, which they held for the de sence of Dover castle, being bound by the tenure of those lands to provide a certain number of soldiers, who should continually perform watch and ward within it, according to their particular allotment of time; but such portions of these lands as were not actually in their own possession were granted out by them to others, to hold by knight's service, and they were to be ready for the like service at command, upon any necessity whatever, and they were bound likewife, each knight to desend a certain tower in the castle; that desended by Sir William de Albrincis being called from him, Averenches tower, and afterwards Clinton tower, from the future owners of those lands. (fn. 2) Among those lands held by Sir William de Albrincis for this purpose was Folkestone, and he held them of the king in capitle by barony. These lands together made up the barony of Averenches, or Folkestone, as it was afterwards called, from this place being made the chief of the barony, caput baroniæ, as it was stiled in Latin; thus The Manor of Folkestone, frequently called in after times An Honor, (fn. 3) and the mansion of it the castle, from its becoming the chief seat or residence of the lords paramount of this barony, continued to be so held by his descendants, whose names were in Latin records frequently speit Albrincis, but in French Avereng and Averenches, and in after times in English ones, Evering; in them it continued till Matilda, daughter and heir of William de Albrincis, carried it in marriage to Hamo de Crevequer, who, in the 20th year of that reign, had possession given him of her inheritance. He died in the 47th year of that reign, possessed of the manor of Folkestone, held in capite, and by rent for the liberty of the hundred, and ward of Dover castle. Robert his grandson, dying s. p. his four sisters became his heirs, and upon the division of their inheritance, and partition of this barony, John de Sandwich, in right of his wife Agnes, the eldest sister, became entitled to this manor and lordship of Folkestone, being the chief seat of the barony, a preference given to her by law, by reason of her eldership; and from this he has been by some called Baron of Folkestone, as has his son Sir John de Sandwich, who left an only daughter and heir Julian, who carried this manor in marriage to Sir John de Segrave, who bore for his arms, Sable, three garbs, argent. He died in the 17th year of Edward III. who, as well as his son, of the same name, received summons to parliament, though whether as barons of Folkestone, as they are both by some called, I know not. Sir John de Segrave, the son, died possessed of this manor anno 23 Edward III. soon after which it appears to have passed into the family of Clinton, for William de Clinton, earl of Huntingdon, who bore for his arms, Argent, crusulee, situchee, sable, upon a chief, azure, two mullets, or, pierced gules; which coat differed from that of his elder brother's only in the croslets, which were not borne by any other of this family till long afterwards, (fn. 4) died possessed of it in the 28th year of that reign, at which time the mansion of this manor bore the name of the castle. He died s. p. leaving his nephew Sir John de Clinton, son of John de Clinton, of Maxtoke, in Warwickshire, his heir, who was afterwards summoned to parliament anno 42 Edward III. and was a man of great bravery and wisdom, and much employed in state affairs. He died possessed of this manor, with the view of frank-pledge, a moiety of the hundred of Folkestone, and THE MANOR OF WALTON, which, though now first mentioned, appears to have had the same owners as the manor of Folkestone, from the earliest account of it. He married Idonea, eldest daughter of Jeffry, lord Say, and at length the eldest coheir of that family, and was succeeded in these manors by his grandson William, lord Clinton, who, anno 6 Henry IV. had possession granted of his share of the lands of William de Say, as coheir to him in right of his grandmother Idonea, upon which he bore the title of lord Clinton and Saye, which latter however he afterwards relinquished, though he still bore for his arms, Qnarterly, Clinton and Saye, with two greybounds for his supporters. After which the manor of Folkestone, otherwise called Folkestone Clinton, and Walton, continued to be held in capite by knight's service, by his descendants lords Clinton, till Edward, lord Clinton and Saye, which title he then bore, together with Elizabeth his wife, in the 30th year of Henry VIII. conveyed these manors, with other premises in this parish, to Thomas Cromwell lord Cromwell, afterwards created earl of Essex, on whose attainder two years afterwards they reverted again to the crown, at which time the lordship of Folkestone was stiled an honor; whence they were granted in the fourth year of Edward VI. to the former possessor of them, Edward, lord Clinton and Saye, to hold in capite, for the meritorious services he had performed. In which year, then bearing the title of lord Clinton and Saye, he was declared lord high admiral, and of the privy council, besides other favours conferred on him; and among other lands, he had a grant of these manors, as abovementioned, which he next year, anno 5 Edward VI. reconveyed back to the crown, in exchange for other premises. (fn. 5) He was afterwards installed knight of the garter, by the title of Earl of Lincoln and Baron of Clinton and Saye; and in the last year of that reign, constable of the tower of London. Though in the 1st year of queen Mary he lost all his great offices for a small time, yet he had in recompence of his integrity and former services, a grant from her that year, of several manors and estates in this parish, as well as elsewhere, and among others, of these manors of Folkestone and Walton, together with the castle and park of Folkestone, to hold in capite; all which he, the next year, passed away by sale to Mr. Henry Herdson, citizen and alderman of London, who lest several sons, of whom Thomas succeeded him in this estate, in whose time the antient park of Folkestone seems to have been disparked. His son Mr. Francis Herdson alienated his interst in these manors and premises to his uncle Mr. John Herdson, who resided at the manor of Tyrlingham, in this parish, and dying in 1622, was buried in the chancel of Hawking church, where his monument remains; and there is another sumptuous one besides erected for him in the south isle of Folkestone church. They bore for their arms, Argent, a cross sable, between four fleurs de lis, gules. He died s. p. and by will devised these manors, with his other estates in this parish and neighbourhood, to his nephew Basill, second son of his sister Abigail, by Charles Dixwell, esq. Basill Dixwell, esq. afterwards resided at Tyrlingham, a part of the estate devised to him by his uncle, where, in the 3d year of king Charles I. he kept his shrievalty, with great honor and hospitality; after which he was knighted, and in 1627, anno 3 Charles I. created a baronet; but having rebuilt the mansion of Brome, in Barham, he removed thither before his death. On his decease unmarried, the title of baronet became extinct; but he devised these manors, with the rest of his estates, to his nephew Mark Dixwell, son of his elder brother William Dixwell, of Coton, in Warwickshire, who afterwards resided at Brome. He married Elizabeth, sister and heir of William Read, esq. of Folkestone, by whom he had Basill Dixwell, esq. of Brome, who in 1660, anno 12 Charles II. was created a baronet. His son Sir Basill Dixwell, bart. of Brome, about the year 1697, alientated these manors, with the park-house and grounds, and other estates in this parish and neighbourhood, to Jacob Desbouverie, esq. of LondonHe was descended from Laurence de Bouverie, de la Bouverie, or Des Bouveries, of an antient and honorable extraction in Flanders, (fn. 6) who renouncing the tenets of the Romish religion came into England in the year 1567, anno 10 Elizabeth, and seems to have settled first at Canterbury. He was a younger son of Le Sieur des Bouveries, of the chateau de Bouverie, near Lisle, in Flanders, where the eldest branch of this family did not long since possess a considerable estate, bearing for their arms, Gules, a bend, vaire. Edward, his eldest son, was an eminet Turkey merchant, was knighted by king James II. and died at his seat at Cheshunt, in Hertfordshire, in 1694. He had seven sons and four daughters; of the former, William, the eldest, was likewife an eminent Turkey merchant, and was, anno 12 queen Anne, created a baronet, and died in 1717. Jacob, the third son, was purchaser of these manors; and Christopher, the seventh son, was knighted, and seated at Chart Sutton, in this county, under which a further account of him may be seen; (fn. 7) and Anne, the second daughter, married Sir Philip Boteler, bart. Jacob Desbouverie afterwards resided at Tyrlingham, and dying unmarried in 1722, by his will devised these manors, with his other estates here, to his nephew Sir Edward Desbouverie, bart. the eldest brother son of Sir William Desbouverie, bart. his elder brother, who died possessed of them in 1736, s. p. on which his title, with these and all his other estates, came to his next surviving brother and heir Sir Jacob Desbouverie, bart. who anno 10 George II. procured an act to enable himself and his descendants to use the name of Bouverie only, and was by patent, on June 29, 1747, created baron of Longford, in Wiltshire, and viscount Folkestone, of Folkestone. He was twice married; first to Mary, daughter and sole heir of Bartholomew Clarke, esq. of Hardingstone, in Northamptonshire, by whom he had several sons and daughters, of whom William, the eldest son, succeeded him in titles and estates; Edward is now of Delapre abbey, near Northamptonshire; Anne married George, a younger son of the lord chancellor Talbot; Charlotte; Mary married Anthony, earl of Shastesbury; and Harriot married Sir James Tilney Long, bart. of Wiltshire. By Elizabeth his second wife, daughter of Robert, lord Romney, he had Philip, who has taken the name of Pusey, and possesses, as heir to his mother Elizabeth, dowager viscountess Folkestone, who died in 1782, several manors and estates in the western part of this county. He died in 1761, and was buried in the family vault at Britford, near Salisbury, being succeeded in title and estates by his eldest son by his first wife, William, viscount Folkestone, who was on Sept. 28, anno 5 king George III. created Earl of Radnor, and Baron Pleydell Bouverie, of Coleshill, in Berkshire. He died in 1776, having been three times married; first, to Harriot, only daughter and heir of Sir Mark Stuart Pleydell, bart. of Colefhill, in Berkshire. By her, who died in 1750, and was buried at Britford, though there is an elegant monument erected for her at Coleshill, he had Hacob, his successor in titles and estates, born in 1750. He married secondly, Rebecca, daughter of John Alleyne, esq. of Barbadoes, by whom he had four sons; William-Henry, who married Bridget, daughter of James, earl of Morton; Bartholomew, who married MaryWyndham, daughter of James Everard Arundell, third son of Henry, lord Arundell, of Wardour; and Edward, who married first Catherine Murray, eldest daughter of John, earl of Dunmore; and secondly, Arabella, daughter of admiral Sir Chaloner Ogle. His third wife was Anne, relict of Anthony Duncombe, lord Faversham, and daughter of Sir Thomas Hales, bart. of Bekesborne, by whom he had two daughters, who both died young. He was succeeded in titles and estates by his eldest son, the right hon. Jacob Pleydell Bouverie, earl of Radnor, who is the present possessor of these manors of Folkestone and Walton, with the park-house and disparked grounds adjacent to it, formerly the antient park of Folkestone, the warren, and other manors and estates in this parish and neighbourhood.
FOLKESTONE is within the ECCLESIASTICAL JURISDICTION of the diocese of Canterbury, and deanry of Dover.
The church, which is dedicated to St. Mary and St. Eanswith, consists of three isles and three chancels, having a square tower, with a beacon turret in the middle of it, in which there is a clock, and a peal of eight bells, put up in it in 1779. This church is built of sand-stone; the high chancel, which has been lately ceiled, seems by far the most antient part of it. Under an arch in the north wall is a tomb, with the effigies of a man, having a dog at his feet, very an tient, probably for one of the family of Fienes, constables of Dover castle and wardens of the five ports; and among many other monuments and inscriptions, within the altar-rails, are monuments for the Reades, of Folkestone, arms, Azure, a griffin, or, quartering gules, a pheon between three leopards faces, or; for William Langhorne, A.M. minister, obt. 1772. In the south chancel is a most elegant monument, having the effigies of two men kneeling at two desks, and an inscription for J. Herdson, esq. who lies buried in Hawkinge church, obt. 1622. In the south isle a tomb for J. Pragels, esq. obt. 1676, arms, A castle triple towered, between two portcullises; on a chief, a sinister hand gauntled, between two stirrups. In the middle isle a brass plate for Joane, wife of Thomas Harvey, mother of seven sons (one of which was the physician) and two daughters. In the north wall of the south isle were deposited the remains of St. Eanswith, in a stone coffin; and under that isle is a large charnelhouse, in which are deposited the great quantity of bones already taken notice of before. Philipott, p. 96, says, the Bakers, of Caldham, had a peculiar chancel belonging to them in this church, near the vestrydoor, over the charnel-house, which seems to have been that building mentioned by John Baker, of Folkestone, who by his will in 1464, ordered, that his executors should make a new work, called an isle, with a window in it, with the parishioners advice; which work should be built between the vestry there and the great window. John Tong, of Folkestone, who was buried in this church, by will in 1534, ordered that certain men of the parish should be enfeoffed in six acres of land, called Mervyle, to the use of the mass of Jhesu, in this church.
On Dec. 19, 1705, the west end of this church, for the length of two arches out of the five, was blown down by the violence of the wind; upon which the curate and parishioners petitioned archbishop Tillot son, for leave to shorten the church, by rebuilding only one of the fallen arches, which was granted. But by this, the church, which was before insufficient to contain the parishioners, is rendered much more inconvenient to them for that purpose. By the act passed anno 6 George III. for the preservation of the town and church from the ravages of the sea as already noticed before. After such works are finished, &c. the rates are to be applied towards their repair, and to the keeping in repair, and the support and preservation of this church.
¶This church was first built by Nigell de Muneville, lord of Folkestone at the latter end of king Henry I. or the beginning of king Stephen's reign, when he removed the priory from the precinct of the castle to it in 1137, and he gave this new church and the patronage of it to the monks of Lolley, in Normandy, for their establishing a cell, or alien priory here, as has been already mentioned, to which this new church afterwards served as the conventual church of it. The profits of it were very early appropriated to the use of this priory, that is, before the 8th of king Richard II. anno 1384, the duty of it being served by a vicar, whose portion was settled in 1448, at the yearly pension of 10l. 0s. 2½d. to be paid by the prior, in lieu of all other profits whatsoever. In which state this appropriation and vicarage remained till the surrendry of the priory, in the 27th year of king Henry VIII. when they came, with the rest of the possessions of it, into the king's hands, who in his 31st year demised the vicarage and parish church of Folkestone, with all its rights, profits, and emoluments, for a term of years, to Thomas, lord Cromwell, who assigned his interest in it to Anthony Allcher, esq. but the fee of both remained in the crown till the 4th year of king Edward VI. when they were granted, with the manor, priory, and other premises here, to Edward, lord Clinton and Saye, to hold in capite; who the next year conveyed them back again to the crown, in exchange for other premises, (fn. 23) where the patronage of the vicarage did not remain long; for in 1558, anno 6 queen Mary, the queen granted it, among several others, to the archbishop. But the church or parsonage appropriate of Folkestone remained longer in the crown, and till queen Elizabeth, in her 3d year, granted it in exchange, among other premises, to archbishop Parker, being then in lease to lord Clinton, at the rent of 57l. 2s. 11d. at which rate it was valued to the archbishop, in which manner it has continued to be leased out ever since, and it now, with the patronage of the vicarage, remains parcel of the possessions of the see of Canterbury; the family of Breams were formerly lessees of it, from whom the interest of the lease came to the Taylors, of Bifrons, and was sold by the late Rev. Edward Taylor, of Bisrons, to the right hon. Jacob, earl of Radnor, the present lessee of it.

I am SO stoked! www.valeehill.net/2021/08/my-top-twenty-one-all-time-favo...
On December 14, 2013 at the historic Jefferson Hotel in Downtown Richmond I attended my very first author event and it was AMAZING! I'd read 45 books (and had another 14 on my to-be-read shelf) by 16 of the 23 authors who attended. I had been able to purchase 4 paperback books to be signed, and for the other books I printed out sheets with each of the book covers of the other Kindle books I have. The authors as a whole acted enthusiastic, gracious, and appreciative of us readers.
Our old Olympus needs to be permanently retired from all indoor shooting. I should have used my iPhone, but better these than no photos at all.
Hi Family,
Thanks so much for your continued support and prayer. We love being able to
share this journey with you all! We visited our doctor for a normal
check-up last Tuesday and everything looks great. It's neat having Giulian
there with me since he's on a school break. He got to hear the baby's
heartbeat through the Baby Doppler for the first time! My doctor was
pleased that I've gained weight since I was behind in our previous
appointments. All you have to do is look at my new photos to see the proof!
She also commented on how crazy the baby is, moving around so much that she
struggled to keep her heartbeat on the monitor! I can feel her kicking
around a lot every day, it's nuts. I'm feeling good, not sick any more, and
am really glad that my normal life requires a lot of walking.
Today we got to tour the hospital that we'll be delivering at. It's only
about 1 mile away and is very nice. We're really excited and feel quite
privileged that we get to deliver there. Every room is private and has
various amenities that help with labor like a jacuzzi tub! It was great to
anticipate the day we'll be there and ask questions, it seems like a great
fit for us.
We'll have the next ultrasound that I mentioned in the previous email to
check on the baby's growth in 4 weeks on Tue, Oct 9th, so I'll plan to let
you all know how things are going then. I begin my 3rd trimester already at
the end of next week! Then the week of the 24th Giulian begins fall quarter
when he's taking both Physics and Chemistry. So needless to say we're
soaking up the last bit of the beautiful summer sun here in Seattle.
I attached some updated pics of me as well as a couple pics from our recent
vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico! We got to spend a whole week there and
it was such a blessing. So glad we got to take a "babymoon"! There's a
picture of us on a boat in front of the famous rock structures and one of
Giulian eating tacos at our favorite seafood taqueria, including a marlin
taco!
Love to you all,
We made a short notice booking to Copenhagen, Jayne had the first week in September booked off and we wanted to try and do a city break.
" My intervention this evening will be difficult as I may not be able to match the comments of the two preceding speakers, Chairman Dr John Guneratne, and "Madam-Sir" Manel, to give her honourable designation. Let my comment this evening be something like a trailer for an exciting movie. Movie-trailers should entice viewers to decide definitely to see the full movie, the complete works. My trailer tonight I trust would compel people to read the real thing: the uncensored "Madame-Sir" in its entirety. John and I are, of course, under instructions from Manel to "indulge in friendly banter" so that this book launch is not an exercise in pious literary criticism and international relations theories but rather "a fun event to relax and enjoy" as she said a while ago.
Many of you lawlessly broke queues to have the book endorsed with a "Triple A" status ("authentic-author-autographed"). The title of the book , embodies, in a way, its predominant theme song - sex. I do not mean this in the conventional sense as many of you would have it, but rather in its global connotations as an issue involving the role, status, prejudices and human rights of both sexes - "Madame" the female appellation, and "Sir " the male appellation are combined. This is not a struggle between Women on one hand, and we-Men on the other. It a situation in which parity of rights and benefits between the two are sought to be ensured.
As all of you are aware, Manel was the first female Ambassador of our island and therefore a pioneer. She fulfilled all the tough criteria and tests that we men have to establish before approval and appointment as Ambassadors or High Commissioners in the Diplomatic Service. I speak now as in a sequence of a movie trailer. At page 36, she is cleared by her first Interview Board which had consisted of a trio including the Permanent Secretary of what was then the Ministry of Defence and Foreign Affairs. After the second interview, before the Public Services Commission, she had insisted that her father also comes along for the final test as she was scared of the "what-will-people-think-no-aney" syndrome had she been seen going for it alone. This was of course the VD test which she also passed. There were then no DVDs to record such special events.
With such achievements, she was able to attend the first UN Conference on Women held in Vienna with the then Prime Minister of Ceylon Madame Sirimavo Bandaranaike who had become the world’s first woman PM. Although the PM, justifiably and effectively made the keynote address, Manel acidly comments that the Conference was chaired ( not even shared) by a man, the Attorney General of Mexico. However, on her return home, Manel with the assistance of Miss Sunethra Bandaranaike (who is here watching this trailer), was able to get our Information Department to publish the first book where the starring roles are played by women. Other scenes of the tender often slender gender balance embellish the book, including a scene where Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, encountered her in Thailand when she was Charge d’affaires of Ceylon (the first such female). His Royal Highness observing this Madame-Sir had, a trifle in doubt perhaps, enquired (page 103) from her, "Are you really the Charge d’ affaires of Ceylon?"Manel replied, "Yes Your Royal Highness, God help us, I am!"
Beyond those majestic moments, Manel has done much to prove her mettle. She has helped to advance women’s rights when Prime Minister Premadasa set up Sri Lanka’s first Women’s Ministry – or to use its proper title ( I am not being funny or punny), the Ministry for Womens’s Affairs.
My first meeting with Manel was way back in 1966 when Jayantha Dhanapala and I (accompanied by our respective wives, Maureen and Chitra) flew to London. Jayantha was to take up duties as Third Secretary at our High Commission. I, foolishly, on swallowing faulty commercial intelligence, was to buy suits for my skinny body in London, in the heretic belief that all Germans were of very large girth and that I could not therefore buy, cheaper ready-made clothes to fit me in Bonn, my maiden posting, as I could in London. Alas, in London, the hotel bookings requested for Chitra and me had not worked out and it was Manel (who had come to the airport, officially, to pick up the Dhanapalas) who rushed about and patiently worked wonders in London to secure a room for me and Chitra which was well within our meager budget. She saved us from a daze in a maze of a city which we had seen only in the movies. That was our close encounter of the first kind with Manel.
Incidentally, her memoirs recall a German Shepherd called "Fuzzy", as well as a "Nihal" on her staff in Bonn. It must be noted that the Nihal she mentions should not be confused with Maalu Nihal, Nawala Nihal, or me, who some people persist in calling "Borella Nihal". The title applies only to my place of residence and not to any corporate connectivity.
A decade later we worked together on parallel duties for the 5th Non-aligned Summit in Colombo. It was the first Summit, significantly, to be chaired by a woman Head of State, and a Summit facilitated by the first woman Chief of Protocol – and this despite the Chief of Protocol claiming, in her book, to have got her legs "aligned" from a non-aligned status. I was on the political side. She recalls experiences she had with Kings, Presidents and Prime Ministers the likes of Tito of Yugoslavia, Gandhi (India), Boumedienne (Algeria), Sadat (Egypt), Gadafi (Libya), Kaunda (Zambia), Makarios (Cyprus), Birendra (Nepal) and many other political stars. Apart from the over 80 states which participated in the Colombo Summit, there were around 30 Observers, including Western countries and liberation organizations which later emerged as the independent states of South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Her script leaves out how she pitched her arguments on the request made by President Gadafi that she pitch a tent on Galle Face Green as his preferred accommodation rather than at a conventional hotel suite. She never lost her cool even when another VVIP was lost… and found later in a small hotel, well away, from the designated Summit hotels. There were other sensitive protocol duties like reducing the effect on blouses and cholis, worn by Sri Lanka’s own female assistants caused by excessive exposure to air-conditioning at the BMICH as well as the stares and glares that were provoked by the innocent ladies.
The protocol aspects, including the complex ceremonial opening session with scores of VVIP motorcades arriving and departing in well-timed sequence from the BMICH, were handled very efficiently and in an expeditious manner. In fact, when I was posted to our Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York to assist our Permanent Representative, Ambassador Shirley Amarasinghe in follow up work on the Summit, some Cuban colleagues sought our advice and some demonstrative film-footage recordings of the ceremonies for receiving Heads of State in order to help planning for the next Summit in Havana. Pages 129 onwards provide more footage on the Colombo Summit which was a great success. Lessons were learnt on practical protocol procedures and are reported from page 138.
A few more comments would be of interest on the issue of the "hit list" side of foreign affairs management about which John has already spoken. The political work of the Summit was excellently handled by Ambassador Shirley Amarasinghe who may have been, for reasons unknown, unfortunately on some "hit list". I should perhaps focus a close-up on that theme. In addition to being our Permanent Representative at the United Nations in New York, Shirley was at the same time also the President of the UN General Assembly for the Sessions in 1976, as well being Chairman of the Law of the Sea Conference which was reaching its most decisive stage about that time. Shortly after the NAM Summit, in 1977, there was a major change of Government in Sri Lanka. The New York Times reported President J.R. Jayewardene’s considered opinion that "there were only two Non-aligned countries in the world" - the United States of America and the USSR. He felt that Sri Lanka continuing to function as the Chairman of the Non-aligned movement until the next Summit (in Havana, Cuba in 1979) was not justified and even risky. He also decided that Shirley Amarasinghe needed to be replaced by a well-known lawyer, B. J. Fernando who was thus appointed Permanent Representative at the United Nations.
B.J. Fernando, on arrival in New York was convinced that there was great benefit to be derived by Sri Lanka continuing as Chairman of the Non-aligned Movement (NAM). The pros and cons were patiently explained to a cynical President by all of us. To President Jayewardene’s credit, he saw reason and eventually decided that Sri Lanka should continue on its full 3-Year term as Chairman of the NAM without quitting.
However, on the other hand, at a particularly crucial stage in the negotiations on the Law of the Sea, the President refused to permit the continuation of Shirley Amarasinghe as Sri Lanka’s nominee for the post of Chairman of the Conference. All advice went unheeded. Perhaps someone had Shirley nominated for membership in the "Hit List". Eventually, the entire international community felt that the services and sagacity of Shirley Amarasinghe were too precious, even indispensible to be rejected. I was personally approached by some UN member states on the issue including by one Permanent Representative who asked me, on behalf of his own Government, to inform Amarasinghe that diplomatic rank and nomination for continued Chairmanship could be provided, if necessary, by his own Head of State. Shirley’s sole obligation would be to make one, I believe, symbolic address annually to the Parliament of that country. I reported the offer to Shirley who expressed strong indignation and anger, berating me for "even listening" to what he called an "unacceptable offer" as he would continue to remain a Sri Lankan and not ride on foreign nominations or credentials. To fast forward the drama, eventually the entire international community represented at the United Nations decided, by consensus, to retain Shirley even without diplomatic rank….and thus he continued as LOS Chair. There was no precedent, nor I think any repetition of such an international consensus as far as I am aware.
Manel’s Memoirs describe also her involvement as perhaps the first woman to successfully cope in handling not one, but two hijacking attempts, combining a firm hand, a smiling face and a hard-working brain ( where ever she claims it is located). The first case involved an Indonesian aircraft that had been hijacked by some Islamic fundamentalists who were hoping to fly, transiting Colombo, to a destination in the Middle East. See the details from page 174 onwards. The second incident was one (early globalization of hi-jacking processes?) where a Sri Lankan, Sepala Ekanayake, had boarded an Alitalia Boeing aircraft holding 170 passengers hostage, as many of you would recall. Here Manel was helped by her own sex , meaning two women, one working in Royal Nepal Airlines and the other employed in a Travel Service company. I leave it to this audience to read all about it as Manel describes the encounter from page 186 onwards.
Eventually, like Chairman John and I, having hit three score years and 10 not out, Manel was re-cycled into various activities which she covers in the concluding chapters of "Madame-Sir"
Lakshman Kadirgamar (whose maiden speech as President of the Oxford Union was listened to in days long gone by a rapt Manel, as a maiden wrapped-up in saree seated on the ground), when Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka decades later, entrusted her with key assignments. They included updating of all the Foreign Ministry’s protocol circulars in order to streamline them and render them more practical, effective and, most important, relevant to changing times. She was also involved in working out training programmes for our new Foreign Service recruits including at the Sri Lanka Institute of Foreign Relations which came to be known as the Kadirgamar Centre. It is currently the venue of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission which includes, among its eminent members, two of the top-most retirees of the Foreign Ministry, Siripala Palihakkara and Rohan Perera who are both present here despite their busy schedules.
One of the Lessons Manel learnt and now seeks to teach and preach perhaps through the outreach of her book, are that there be nothing really "foreign" to a Sri Lankan Foreign Service officer’s work. Following the horrible events of 1983, she also served under Bradman Weerakoon who was Commissioner General of Essential Services when she learnt much about organizing temporary camps for violently displaced persons and what she describes as "the depths to which human misery can sink". She also deals with our relations with India in the aftermath of 1983.
In the final chapter of her book she lists 14 Lessons she has learnt. Two of them are particularly vital to anyone in any State Service. They are numbers seven and eight the essence of which I thought I should read out: Number seven urges that "unprincipled actions even if (one is) ordered" to take them by bosses should never be taken. Number eight urges one "to speak up to seniors" even of the highest ranks especially if they are "about to embark on a wrong track". Her experience, she states, is that leaders would "understand if matters are explained politely and with confidence and (they) realize that it is for their own good that you have spoken". She mentions proof for these assertions as provided by a lady. Read all about it in Chapter XI.
Have fun".
(The Island - 19/12/2010)
I like being able to see.
Five years ago, I started seeing flashes of light at the periphery of my left eye. Knowing that is a warning sign of retinal problems, I got into an eye specialist right away. I had a torn retina, repaired in a jiffy in the doc's office, him using a cryogenic probe to "tack" down the retina. Every year I go for an eye checkup. Today was my day to get my eyeballs examined.
The doc and I had a good time talking about weight loss and exercise. We both have lost weight and keep it off by making lifestyle changes. But I digress. Since I have good control over my diabetes (I've had normal blood sugar readings for almost a decade), and have not had any recurrence of retinal problems, the doc was considering releasing me from an annual checkup, just having my regular eye doc keep watch over my eye health. I mentioned my peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet (a side effect from diabetes that some have), he quickly said that was an indication to keep doing the special annual checkup. Then he proceeded to check me out thoroughly.
"When did you have laser repair on your right retina?" asked the doc. "Never" said I with puzzlement in my voice. "You have a tear in your right retina and it looks like it's been partially repaired by a laser." said the doc. "Let me look more closely" said he as he took a higher magnification lens and had me carefully move my eye around. It tuned out that I had a bigger tear than I had in the left eye, and my body was using pigment to try to repair it, giving it a similar look, upon first glance, to a laser repair.
I had a choice. Let my body keep trying to repair it and have a 50% chance at it failing, possibly with catastrophic effects to my vision, or have the repair done as with the left, using a cryogenic probe to "tack" down the tear and getting a 90% chance of success. I took the better odds and prepared to get a big brain freeze.
I was prepared for the fix this time, having gone through it once before. It's a bit frightening to think about someone, a very well-trained someone, sticking a needle-like probe in your eye. I was all numbed up and fully dilated when the doc quickly inserted the probe in the white part of my eye. With three quick taps of the freezing probe, the repair was done. I did have a huge brain freeze like you get when you eat ice cream too fast. A small price to pay for eyesight. My eye was sore for much of the day, and I have drops to help with the pain. I'll go back in a month for a checkup. I'm hoping that, like with the left eye 5 years ago, all will be normal.
Once a year I take a picture after seeing the eye specialist and do my public service bit to encourage awareness of the signs and symptoms of a retinal tear or detachment. This year I had no signs or symptoms, but I did have my annual eye checkup which did uncover a silent tear that could have led to a detachment and possible permanent loss of vision. I was fortunate. I hope you are as well.
Here are signs and symptoms of a retinal tear or detachment. If you have any of these, get to an eye doctor quickly.
flashing lights
sudden onset of new floaters
gradual shading of vision from one side (like a curtain being drawn)
rapid decline in sharp, central vision. This occurs when the macula — the area of the retina responsible for central vision — detaches.
