This shot was taken a few weeks back and have been meaning to upload for a while, have been confused between two versions that I had captured.
Hope to upload the other version soon, would love to have captured the same in landscape mode, will have to re visit when the time is right.
Hope you all had a great weekend.
Thanks for all your comments and feedback.
Two little guys with their father/grandfather at the pond in Herbert Park, Dublin. One has his net for catching pinkeens, but thought the other might have been controlling a model boat?
The Pergola and covered walkway just above the far side of the pond sadly fell victim to the Snowpocalypse of winter 2010/2011 and collapsed under the weight of snow and ice. That aside, if you visit Herbert Park today, this scene is completely unchanged.
Slow Loose Chippings told us that the "pond in Herbert Park was once the mill pond for the nearby Mill at Ballsbridge" and Niall McAuley provided us with a map showing that old mill pond.
P.S. "Going fishing" myself for a few days, but will be back in action at the end of the week...

This photo was taken in the late 19th century, probably by Robert French, chief photographer of William Lawrence Photographic Studios of Dublin. It's especially rich in beautiful ghostly figures, and if I'm reading the chuch clock correctly, this photo was taken at 10:15. G.W.V. Whitcroft's 1990 companion image was taken at 10:30
Compare this view of Lurgan with its companion photo taken by photographer G.W.V. Whitcroft (approximately 100 years later) as part of the Lawrence Photographic Project 1990/1991, where one thousand photographs from the Lawrence Collection in the National Library of Ireland were replicated a hundred years later by a team of volunteer photographers, thereby creating a record of the changing face of the selected locations all over Ireland.
For further information on the Lawrence Photographic Project, read all about it on our NLI Blog.
Niall McAuley has contributed this spectacular bird's eye view from Bing, and thanks to Niall's dating work (see his comments below), we can definitely say this photo was taken after 1865 and before 1896! Niall did some more work on dating and says:
"Not conclusive, but the 1865 directory lists 4 businesses on Middle Row, the 1877 Lennon Wylie link lists two, and the 1880 Lurgan Ancestry link lists none. I think most of Middle Row was vacant/demolished in 1880.
The buildings to the left look in poor shape here, you can see the outline of a demolished house on the gable of the farthest house. I think this photo is in the middle of the Town Commisioners efforts to get rid of Middle Row, maybe1879?"

This is the first picture I'm uploading that was actually taken in 2012. Yet, another road trip with Mom, and, as it is almost always the case, it was all about the journey!

So many of our train shots show gleaming metal and shining livery, that we thought you might like this stripped back view inside the belly of the beast, with a shot of a train engine in the repair shop at (we thought) Arigna, Co. Roscommon.
However, while it may have been in the "repair shop" as the photographer James P. O'Dea called it, most commenters are in agreement that this engine was being dismantled or cannibalised for parts, scrap, etc. There are also suggestions that this photo was not taken at Arigna at all, but at nearby Ballinamore. As Flying Snail says:
"I don't think there was a loco repair shop at Arigna. The only workshops on the C&L [Cavan & Leitrim Line] were at Ballinamore, which was frequented heavily by photographers like O'Dea. This is where I suspect the photos is taken if it is a C&L machine we are looking at. The workshop buildings are now incorporated into a school, which the old station at Ballinamore was converted to after closure."

This was taken last week when the sky was good for a few days, managed to capture a few images that I will upload soon.

Thank you for your visit, comments good or bad.
Have a wonderful day.

A small tribute to the small things. To the Little Prince, that great little book, and to this small local bar, which believe ir or not, has a small really long beer types list...
Thank you very much my wife for you in my life

Inside the Mount Bromo crater - Gunung Bromo - an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, located in East Java, Indonesia.
The volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god.
At 2,329 metres (7,641 ft) it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Java island.
I can finally lay this location to rest. This was my fifth visit to this spot and I finally captured what I wanted: raging surf and cloud action. The combination of conditions has always eluded in my previous visits, only getting one or the other. This shot was taken down in Point Lobos State Reserve, the northern edge of Big Sur. Point Lobos is one of my favorite areas of the California central coast. It has coastal forests, various coves, beaches, wildlife, and has endless compositions for photography. If I lived closer to here I would probably be down here almost every weekend for the spectacular views it offers.
Enough with the background info, here’s the story behind the shot. The Bay Area was rocked by some of the largest thunderstorms the night before. I contemplated heading out to SF to capture the epic storms but ultimately ended up sitting at home. In my almost four years in the Bay Area, the series of thunderstorms was the most intense I have encountered. The main cells passed the night before but a few patch thunderstorms remained throughout Friday. On my way down to Point Lobos, I encountered one of such patch thunderstorms on Hwy 101. I felt like I was driving through monsoon season in the southwest.
The central coast was full of drama from the passing thunderstorms. The surf was much more rough and higher than I had ever seen at Point Lobos. This shot was more difficult to pull off than appears. Though I was well above Pinnacle Rock, the high surf continuously kicked up significant mist that kept bombarding me. On top of that the surf created foam that tended to blow out my highlights or created wave action that appeared like a giant swatch of white. I realized I had to time it with the right sized wave and with an exposure not too long to get the shot I wanted. I waited, shielding my filters from the mist, and I sprang into action when the proper waves moved in. I managed to capture the rough wave action detailing the unrest of the ocean, light beams behind the clouds, and a patch thunderstorm that appeared out of nowhere on the horizon.
Hope you enjoy!

Be' io invece la capisco.
