A Taurid fireball meteor blazes green by the Moon while totally eclipsed. Photo captured from the city of Roanoke! I was only a few shots in from changing lens from my 70-300 mm to my 18-200 mm and best of all I was taking a photo while it occurred. Incredible to witness and once in a lifetime to capture! Red and Green for the Holidays. I am still high from the capture!

For Looking Close...on Friday!'s #bee theme

i'd intended to use an archive shot for this theme, but at the last minute decided to treat myself to a morning at RHS Wisley. By far the most popular flowers with the bees were these lovely, dark salvias. I lost track of time watching them wiggle in and wiggle out again from multiple flowers.

As i'm often finding this wasn't quite the sharpest shot from the day, but i liked it because of his prominent tongue. i can almost hear her slurping (drinking noisely) away.

(Reviewing the theme before posting, i noticed that most of the gallery examples were non-real bees, but i'm pretty certain live bees are ok, too.)

Playing around one morning with bokeh and colour.

We put peanuts out for the squirrels each morning and it is so fun to watch them enjoy their windfall.

Thank you so much for your visit

1/4/2023:

I am moving this shot to the top of my photostream and choosing it for the Your Best Shot of 2022 group. "Best" is a very subjective term. After going through all my posted photos, including many personal faves, I was happiest rediscovering this one. It didn't get as many faves as the ones that made it into Explore, but I think it deserves a second chance at being seen.

I shot this on an elevated subway platform in Queens, on my way home after spending a delightful day in Manhattan alone (by choice) for my birthday, wandering around taking photos, visiting the Museum of Modern Art and seeing a performance of Hamilton: An introvert's dream. #YBS2022 #YBSUrban22 #YBSThroughHerLens22

"Nicknamed the 'International Express,' the 7 kicks off on Main Street, in Flushing, Queens; cuts through East Asian, Latino, South Asian, and other immigrant locales; and terminates in Hudson Yards, Manhattan. In 1999, the White House Millennium Council deemed it a National Millennium Trail for being a testament to the immigrant experience." ~ www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-04-24/how-the-7-trai....

I have been wanting to do this photo for a while, but only just got all the dogs I needed. I wanted to do my own take on the classic evolution of man picture. The first dog is Star, a Red Merle Border Collie, doing a typical collie pose. The second dog is Fred, a Standard Poodle, doing a typical poodle pose. The third dog is Lola, a Bordoodle (a merle collie cross poodle), doing a typical bordoodle pose!

This time of the year is my favourite. The light is so warm and soft, and the long shadows have the potensial for really great images. Like on this winter afternoon at the beach. It was a cloudy day, but as the sun went down, a sudden crack in the clouds made a wonderful light. The beach was bumpy after several windy days, and filled with kelp washed ashore. The sudden yellow light made the lazy waves luminous, turning it into a beautiful sight that I tried to capture with my camera.

My favourite place to be - Rhossili Beach, Gower. There have been some super sunsets lately but this has to be the best evening for a sunset for years.

WE DID IT!! We hiked a 14er!!!

I truly have absolutely no idea how we did it, but we did. Really, still trying to process it.

I think ultimately my fear of heights forced me up. The thought of turning around and looking down was more terrifying than the physicality of going up. And it was PHYSICAL. The hardest thing we have ever done, including Brian’s marathons and century rides. Just before the summit, everyone takes a few steps then a few seconds breath. Just one foot in front of the other is all you think about. (And for me, that up is better than down 😄.)

We also had the most incredible, experienced guide, Tanner Thompson, with Colorado Adventure Guides. He could have easily lapped us a few times, all while carrying a 50lb pack!! He was amazing. Without him, we NEVER could have done it. He kept close watch over us and kept spirits up. He was a search and rescue expert, and we were even fitted with avalanche locators as the weather can change significantly on a dime. Luckily, we had great weather the entire time.

My husband had some altitude issues for a bit going up which required a few stops, and my fear of heights really slowed the first half of our descent. BUT WE DID IT!!

The stats:

Mt. Quandary

Summit 14,271’

Trail 6.75 miles, up and back

Elevation 3,326’ (~1000’ per mile)

Steepest grade 58%

Class 1/Class 2

Hardly any pics. Honestly, I was too worried about going down to care about photos. But the view was magnificent!

Piz Palu 3900 m. and the Morteratsch glacier, Switzerland.

Incredible feeling to be close to such beauty!

@ Plateau de Valensole

So much drama in the sky that morning - the sun rises up from the bank of low clouds, happily giving out its beautiful light while Mother Cloud gladly receiving it while sending Baby Cloud off; the ripples on the lake was an added bonus to balance out the composition.

We finally left Houston a few days ago; am still trying to catch up on your posts.

I feel it's appropriate to post the very last photo which I captured in Clear Lake for the year.

I wish you a relaxing Sunday! 💖
