One bundle of a noodle nest (super cheap from our local Asian mart) boiled in water, to which I add a lot of shredded chicken breast (which was oven roasted w/ skin on, most of the skin removed after), and a big scoop of silverhydra's meat slop. Topped w/ Frank's Red Hot Sauce, Sriracha, chopped green onions and cilantro(not pictured). I keep forgetting to crack an egg into the soup. Very comforting and satisfying, especially in these winter months.

 

I was skeptical about higher protein diets, intermittent fasting, cheat days, etc., but I'm trying it out for a while to see for myself. I've been back on StrongLifts 5x5 since mid-November and started IF maybe 4 weeks ago; I can definitely see good progress and my energy levels/strength gains/fat loss are just fine, so I will continue trying it out. The biggest thing is that I now drink 8-12oz of coffee a day. I've never needed it to get going in the morning, but I read about the benefits of caffeine for workouts, and it helps a lot with appetite suppression in the late morning. I'm really curious about how it will work during endurance training season.

 

Speaking of which, when I get into long runs or rides, I will likely modify my diet. I do enjoy eating more meat, but frankly it is not in my budget to regularly eat the sort of meat I would prefer. Plus early morning rides or runs and two-a-days/bricks will call for a lot more carbs.

 

One goal for 2012 is to continue strength training throughout the year. In 2011 I didn't set foot in the gym from April to September. How do I do that and finally make 2000-3000 cycling miles w/ lots of running races in between? We'll see...

Start standing up straight. Hold the weights in front of you at waist height by keeping the elbows flexed and to your side. When lunging, bring the weights behind you by extending the elbows and rotating the shoulders back. Leaning your trunk forward will help you lift the weights higher. Do 10-20 repetitions with each leg.
