I got stuck in traffic on my way here and missed the sunset. But the sky was so dramatic! Madrid, Spain Jan-2020

From "IntroducingMadrid.com":

"This ancient Egyptian temple is from the second century B.C. and was donated to Spain by the Egyptian state for helping save the Abu Simbel temple, as well as other monuments and archaeological sites, from being buried under the construction of the Aswan High Dam.

The Debod Temple was dismantled and transported to Spain, but it took two years to rebuild, since there were no reliable blueprints of the structure and some of the stones got lost during the shipment and had to be replaced. Finally, Debod was opened to the public on 20 July 1972."

Winter night view from the cliffs of Short Off Mountain, the southern terminus of Linville Gorge. An experimental image that I made because I wanted to test the amount of light on the landscape from the waxing crescent moon (still less than half full). The ratio of light from the city lights versus the moonlight was too high...hoping for some clear skies and ice when the moon is more full.

The tones are a bit warm in this image but the temperature was a chilly 20° F and the wind was blowing about 15 mph with gusts.

In case you noticed in the exif, I forgot to switch to my 17-40 lens before leaving the house and only had my 24-85. ...bummer

Midtown Manhattan in the snow.

It snowed very briefly in New York City tonight. It was barely a dusting of snow which quickly mixed with rain but it was enough to make me pine for heavy snowfall. And when I pine for anything, I tend to lose myself in a heady mix of memories and imagination which usually leaves me going through older photos trying to grasp at the core of what it is that I am missing the most.

These photos were taken during the only heavy snowfall that New York City experienced during the winter 2013 season. I bundled myself and my Sony A99 up in as many layers as I could muster wearing and walked all the from my Lower East Side neighborhood up 5th Avenue to Times Square because I could think of nothing better than reveling in some of the most beautiful city scenery while the night turned into something resembling a shaken snow-globe.

Here's hoping that the winter 2014 season grants New York City at least one beautiful snowfall.

The vibrant energy of Triangeln. The striking golden sculpture, twisting, organic shapes, stands tall against the night sky, glowing beautifully under the city lights, making the colors pop. It’s a perfect mix of calm and energy, showing off Malmo’s charm after dark.

A cold Winter Night

Back Bay, Boston, MA, USA

View of the Back Bay area at night from across the Charles River, Memorial Drive near the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Boathouse in Cambridge.

The major landmarks in the Back Bay area are noted in the image, including the "newer" John Hancock Tower & the "older" John Hancock building (visit the John Hancock Tower set for more images of this landmark Tower viewed from different parts of MetroBoston), The Prudential Tower, 500 Boylston Street, 111 Huntington Avenue, and more.

The small boats on the foreground were on the Cambridge side of the Charles River which is just slightly less than a mile wide at this vantage. The two-level river and dark band shown in the glassy river indicates the boundary where the frozen icy portion still was evident.

This was taken a week after the Noreaster on Valentines Day 2007 and a day just before mild snow dusting we had yesterday. In the other shots it should be possible to see the remains of the previous mild "snowstorm", at least for Boston.

It was supposed to be a mildly warm night (for Winter) at just below freezing but the breeze from Charles River could cause frostbite.

This was my first time to try night photography to explore the potential of my ultrawide Tokina 12-24mm. I still do not know what I am doing but I decided to plunge ahead using the Manual priority mode.

N.B.

The image was uncropped. Except for "unsharp image" and the automated resizing and "screen image optimization" to reduce the diskspace usage, no further image manipulation was done.

A fierce confrontation on a cold winter’s night under harsh stadium lights. One player holds his ground, eyes set, as his opponent charges — determination meeting impact in a frozen moment of youth rugby. The black-and-white tones strip away distraction, leaving only form, force, and focus.

Looking through the frozen branches of our plum trees and cyprus bush towards the inviting and cozy lights of our barn.

There were beautiful clouds in the sky tonight, but it was brutally cold out there.

A frozen pause in the city’s rhythm — red lights glowing under a blanket of snow on a cold winter night in Riga. The streets are quiet, the air sharp, and even the traffic signals seem to carry the weight of winter.

Lomo LC-Wide , Kodak ektar 100

My first photo with my new LC-Wide.

In the mid of a wintry night, you could find use of your most vivid imagination. Then this humble balcony would turn into a cliff overlooking endless sea, over which stay curtains after curtains of mist and yet, somehow only a glimmer catches the eye. The origin of that glimmer is lit by some distant. lone sailor, trapped on the top of a desolate light house, forgotten by his contemporaries. Still, the vibrant leaves remind you of resilience and fighting it out till the morning, or - the summer.
